  1. IMHO, 2 ways about it: 1) if you want the feature wall look: the wall paper should have ended just where the bay window/marbletop starts. 2) if you want the wall paper to blend into the space: the wall paper should cover all the way, even under the bay window. Now it looks a little bit like someone have not finish the job....
  2. My new Samsung side-by-side fridge with water dispensing function uses this to filter the water coming from the tap. It needs to be changed every 6mthly. Where can I get this at a cheap price...or any 3rd party option? Thanks!
  3. Having seen my 6 yrs old front load ariston washer in action, you have to be careful of the significant vibration during the spin cycle....especially on full load washing. The steel table maybe made out of strong material, but the structure and design seem to be a little bit "flimsy"..one of it being the lanky legs, though reinforced on 3 sides, will amplify the vibration of the washing machine at the top. Please watch out for the washing machine shifting itself during operation....do add on a curb all round at the table top to prevent your washing machine from vibrating itself off the top...
  4. ok, I think i'll accumulate a few items first to share the shipping.... how's the infra-red sensor trashbin? read that the sensor gets a bit cranky after a while from some of the online users' review.
  5. The basic prinicple in how citygas heater unit heats up the water is similar to the problematic electrical one that my in-law has....the water is not preheated...so when you switch on the tap, water will flow through a series of heated coil within the unit....the pressure of heated water out of the unit will definitely be lower than the cold water pressure entering the unit due to the series of coils slowing the flow of the water so that there is enough time to heat the water to a pre-determined temperature. For rainshowers, the water flow is much much more compared to the normal showerheads...thus the demand for higher water pressure to drive the volume of water needed out of the rainshower head. Say you compensate for the reduced output pressure by increasing the input PUB water pressure..the max you can increase is determined by your unit's main pipe pressure. You can sort of get around it by installing an external water pump (have to deal with electrical bill and noise)....but can the citygas "instant" heater unit take the increased pressure being pushed into it? Since I'm too late to advise against citygas for homes intending to use rainshower....i shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you...... hope it turns out well for you against all logic
  6. i was thinking of buying a simple human bin from amazon but kind of hesitate due to shipping. Was your thrash bin shipped directly from amazon or via vpost? How's the shipping process? I'm afraid the bin will arrive dented from rough handling during shipping.
  7. hi! thanks for your suggestion and sample picture of your installation. I have decided to just get the Philips 4w EnduraLED MR16 replacement for all my spot lights that I bought from lightings.com. These stuff do not come cheap though...$45/piece.....bought 7 pieces in total for all the spot lights. Hope fully they are worthwhile investment to highlight some feature walls and reno features without burning up the place the heat!!
  8. Hi! My Reno is into it's homerun and now looking for curtains and blinds for the whole unit. Specifically, I'm looking for wooden blinds supplier with decent pricing and sales support. Thanks!
  9. i considered the Broder series but due to space constraint, I will not be able to maximize the space usage as i will not be able to fill up the full wall with the shelves since they only have 2 lengths of shelves to play around with.
  10. just to clarify, the 2 showerheads are just normal handheld shower heads..... not even rain shower lor...
  11. personal experience to share on these "multipoint heater".....had it installed for my in-law's place to supply 2 shower head at 2 bathrooms (not even connecting to taps). After the installation, the initial few times using it was decent with hot water coming to the shower head as expected depending on the distance the hot water need to travel. Then the heater unit started to leak badly to the point we had to switch off the mains to stop the leak....called the installer down to rectify and it was good for a few days before the leaking starts again. Got the installer to come down again to fix it...this time only my in-law was around....it got fixed alright...but now the flow of the hotwater is pathetic....when i turn my mixer all the way to the hot water side, it only trickles...when i turn the mixer to cold water side, it gush......so essentially I only have 2 choices: 1) warm water but it trickles 2) full shower effect but it is cold I suspect that it is due to the installer restricting the flow and pressure to the heater to solve the problem of the leakage as I deduce that the heater cannot handle the pressure and flow of the unit's water pressure. It's the inherent design limitation i guess. That's why we are living with this mistake......swearing off this sort of heaters perpetually. Just get a storage heater if u have concealed piping or individual instant heater at each shower head if you have exposed pipings. So beware!
  12. 98% of the electrical contractors I have come across know nuts about networking...not to mention knowing how to terminate a RJ45 keystone/faceplate. In the end, I just got them to lay the cables (self-supplied belden cat 6 UTP) concealed while I am terminating them myself once the cabinetry and painting is done. Already got the punchdown tool (really wonder why a punchdown tool with such simple mechanic can cost $90.... )and went through dozens of youtube "how to punchdown cat 6 keystone/patch panel" multiple times Lesson to share: I bought a set of cat 6 Belden keystone when I bought the 305m reel of Belden cat 6 cables...only to find out that the Legrand MALIA series of CAT 6 double-jack faceplate comes with their own keystones already.....wasted the Belden keystones at $7-8/pc...not cheap...hopefully can sell them off once I am done with the renovation and confirmed that I do not need them.
  13. I'm looking for customized heavy duty wall-hung storage shelves for my small utility/storage room. I want it wall hung because i want to free up and unclutter the limited floor space. For reference on the kind of shelves I am talking about: photo courtesy of photoq..thanks! Anyone have recommendations or referrals? Thanks!
  14. the former flat owner must have been stealing all the road bends convex mirrors for his toilets!
  15. Trunking is the cheapest item on the list of items for laying the cable...so it should not be a problem or a hassle to obtain. Anyway, it will be good to see your DIY cable laying effort once u are at it cos so far I have never seen any Renotalker actually laying the CAT 6 cables to spec..ie. observing minimum distance from electrical wires in a separate run of trunking I can do with some practical examples for my next reno When are u laying your network?
  16. That's the culture of local electricians/contractors. To them, they simply cannot understand the need for running network cables and electrical wirings separate to reduce interference. Even if you managed to convince them the rationale, having the cables and wires running parallel at a predetermined distance is double the labour required as well as a headache for them as they will have to make sure the 2nd set of cable trunking is aesthetically acceptable...since the most un-intrusive route is already taken up by the electrical wires. Given all the above considerations, most of them are not keen to take on network laying jobs if the requirement is stringent. IF you consider $800 for laying trunking is .....try asking them to do that...concealed :bangwall: In the end I just supplied them my own UTP cat 6 cables to be layed concealed with the electrical wires......I gave up fighting Since I am not a hardcore techie...so long as it can get me my smooth HD moving streaming from the NAS ...I'm satisfied.
  17. I'm am getting a set of track spotlights to highlight my feature wall. The standard ones are halogen (MR16) powered and from experience, they are **** hot and totally energy inefficient. I do not want these factors from discouraging myself from switching on the spotlights as often as I wish. So I'm looking for LED Track SpotLights. I'm looking for LED spotlight designed into the spotlight from ground up as I am not too keen on replacement LED MR16 bulbs to fit normal halogen spotlight fittings. Any picture, links, prices and place to purchase is appreciated! Thanks!
  18. can show a closer up view of ur wooden block clock? seem very interesting! Where and how much to get it? Thanks!
  19. word of caution. I hope you used water-resistant and strong materials (eg, nyatoh) for the load bearing structure of the fish tank cabinet. Do not underestimate the weight of a full tank of water and more if u are into marine or aquascaping....also seepage of water over the years will corrode plywoods and lesser wood type.
  20. based on my reno experience, when ur ID tell u can change from S to P trap, that only answer the question if you can do a concealed cistern. At the end of the day your waste trap will still be in it's original position, just a matter of how your ID is going to channel the waste from the new position to the original waste trap hole. Not impossible but you will not like the amount of space you will be wasting. Don't waste your time and energy pondering which design is better until you clarify with your ID.
  21. wow..the 56" cinema aspect TV is impressive! Did you try watching standard TV/SCV/Singtel Mio TV programs on this set? how is the picture in terms of distortion since it is not the usual aspect ratio?
  22. i also thought teakwood is termite resistant.....that's why i'm not sure how the daily accumulating wood dust come from. My wife is very squirmish about bugs and insects, so the very thought of possibly some bugs, be it termite or wood worms is in our house is a definite no no for her. you r right, i would not say that they are a lousy company and by the fact that we manage to get a refund verbally over the phone was fine as well. The only thing is that after that phone conversation, there was no active followup on their part to seek ways to refund the money. Since this is a halfway house, and the profits go towards funding the halfway house runnings, we decided to not pursue the refund and treat it as a donation to charity. Maybe my incident is just a once off event. I'm just sharing it for information and not to dissuade anyone from giving them a try. cheers!
  23. my wife got a teak cabinet from them a few years back... after delivery noted to have wood dust on the floor around it that reaccumulate even after wiping many times....we suspected wood worm or termites...so called to ask for exchange. I cannot remember if they do not have a similar unit to replace or because they cannot guarantee that the replacement piece will not have the same problem... so in the end we got a refund.
