Hi omegared, I think vicenzo is recommending based on what he knows and feels is right. There are definitely many different types/brands of sound system around in the market, but short of "experts" who can give us advice, vicenzo is definitely trying his best to help us, the renotalkers. Of course, we believe that you are also a very knowledgeable person in the field of sound systems and we really appreciate if you and your friends can also give us your expert advice based on your knowledge. This way, it will be beneficial to all the amatuer renotalkers like myself. Cheers.

Yr cambridge audio sound system looks beautiful, I like the color. Too bad mine cannot choose color. How much did you play for it?

Heyo, i wanted to have a more open concept for the WIW, so I chose the pole system. I also like the industrial kind of feelin which makes it look really solid and also the clothes rail is adjustable makes it even more flexible for my tiny WIW. As for the gate, I agree with you, paint + gate is still cheaper then anywhere else good deal. think i better paint the gate over soon before the rust starts coming out. Its a busy weekend ahead.

manutd, you r really an expert leh.... I looked at the spec, it says freq bet 40-20,000 hz. Does it mean it is good enough? Also do you have any idea what is the impedance for, should it be higher or lower?

Waiting for Sitex for to buy a TV and maybe microwave oven (with 3 in 1 function). Bought my mattress and bedframe way way back before we even went for 1st appointment. Now kinda regret it.... lol.... After looking at my house and imagining the chunky storage bedframe we bought, dont know if it will look out of place. Anyway what HTS did u buy? U got photos?

Hi gimz, does this have anti rust function?

Wahh... you always have very good lobangs. What a steal. I should have done my reno after yours.... hahahahaha.... Anyway, the 2 guys on yr CNS pics are the same ones who came over to install mine. While, I think the quality of the gate delivered is not fantastic, I think those 2 guys are pretty hardworking and managed to rectify all the problems. My biggest complain will be the type of paint they use, really bad quality. Think have to re-paint it myself.

Congrats with the hand over. Your kitchen is very nice, particularly the orange backlash. It goes very well with yr white cabinets. Your toilet glass door is very interesting too. How much did you pay for the glass door?

Hand Over Delayed Sian, last week told Yen I wanted to "move-in"to the house last Sat. But there are still quite a few outstanding items which they cant finish on time, so decided not to "move-in". Also dont want to rush him, in case he does a bad job. Anyway, now my next "move-in" date is set in Dec 10. So he has plenty of time to make sure the house is fully done up, and I have plenty of time to buy all my furniture and appliances Anyway, below are some pictures took last week. My Fridge, washer, gate, Basin tap, wardrobe parts as well as my dining table. S/S Hitachi Fridge bought from Everjoint, didnt see that there were 2 small dents on the door when it was unpacked on Sat monrning. Called Everjoint in the afternoon to ask if could do anything, they say call me back, till date no sound no nothing. Toshiba washer from Everjoint Wrought iron gate from CNS. They used the spray on type paint. They brought along the spray can (you can buy from any hardware shop) and spray on-the-spot anywhere that is not colored. I think I will re-paint the gate myself, considering the quality of paint they use. My pole system parts for my WIW from Ikea. Yen say will get his carpenter help me fix it this coming weekend My dining set from Ikea. The table, 4 chairs and 4 cushions cost less then $250. Hope it can last for a while.

Sound system part 3 Thanks neubie, manutd, dexufto, for all the sound system advices. Haven had time to do much updates. Have been running around excitedly looking for furnitures, appliances etc etc.... And I am proud to say that I have finally bought a sound system. Dont know if it is good or bad, but at Best Denki, the sound it play seem very clear for both music and movie. kekekeke..... And now i shall unveil my purchase..... drum rolls drum rolls It is the Onkyo TX-SR508 (AVR) + Jamo S506 HCS3 (5.0) combine Sadly doesnt come with a sub...... + = $1099 While I know I will have problems mounting the 2 satelites speakers at the rear to give surround, the sound it produce is too good to be ignored and the price is really competitive vs the likes of philips, samsungs.... So we have decided to leave the wire for the 2 satelites "moveable". Whenever we need to watch movie, we will move the 2 satelites to the back of our sofa and place it on a makeshift stand such as chair... Suggestions?

I got the 25L tank. I am more kiasu, worried that if i have got guest staying over, I may not have enough hot water to go around. Also, My friend told me to get the slightly bigger one. He rationalised that if we cannot use up all the water at night, the water can be used the following morning for washing face and brushing teeth.

Bought my basin with cabinet from Hoe kee. Think the cabinet is made of acrylic, so can with stand water splashes when installed in a wet toilet.

Sound System Part 2 Hi manutd, thanks for the advice. Actually, i am still very "gian" to get the 5.1HTS with a AVR. Anyhow, today brought my wife to Courts with her favorite "high-society" CDs. The intial intent is to test out the Philips HTS7200. But when we got there, we saw Rosman again. So with Rosman's advice, we decided to check out the Onkyo SR380 paired with the Jamo S 506 HCS 3 vs the Philips HTS7200. After the test, the philips actually sounded "blur" compared to the Onkyo-Jamo pair (cost $1099 without sub). Also, without any sub, the Jamo speakers actually has pretty powerful internal woofer, which is so good when playing transformers. Amazing. However, Rosman mentioned that it is ok not to mount the 2 satelites at the rear, just leave them on top of the 2 floor standing speakers. By changing the internal settings, that is to key in the distance between the speakers vs the chair into the avr, can actually do the surround sound trick as well. Is this true?

Hi dexufto, I went to HN warehouse sale, but did not buy any big items (like TV or sound system), since the reno still in progress. So no place to keep. My mum-in-law already complaining that we got too many things stored in her house. Nevertherless, I bought a wireless printer, HP3050 and a foldable mattress. My wife and some friends adviced that it is not auspicious to sleep on the marriage bed b4 wedding, so had to sleep on a folder mattress for the time being. Hahahaha... Sounds silly. Your reno is also going on nicely. Looks like you will be using the storage type water tank too ya?

Sound System After all the encouraging comments from neubie and vicenzo, I have decided to learn more about sound systems. 2 weeks back, without much knowledge and cash, I and my wife decided to visit the Adelphi to find out the available options. To our surprise, it is indeed a mall full of sound systems. They carry brands uncommon brands Courts, Harvey Norman etc. do not carry. And of course, the price is also shocking. Some of them can go as steep as 10k for a set of speakers. This is really a case of "got eye no see oie-eee-oie". But now I know, they carry all the Hermes, Pradas, Guccis in terms of sound systems. Anyway, I read in renotalk that KEC is one of the friendliest store in Adelphi and the owner is very helpful. So we went to KEC. To our disappointment, the old man who spoke with us (dont know if he is the owner) is neither friendly nor helpful. When we told him our budget is around 1.5k the disappointment showed all over his face. Disappointed with his response, we left. Not willing to give up, we went to the first floor. A sales guy from (cant remember the name of the shop) spoke to us, and gave us some basic advice like "what is video-audio upscaling", where to find more information on reviews and etc. Excited with my new found knowledge, went down to Harvey norman warehouse sale over the weekend. Eyed the Onkyo Sr608 avr and the Jano S606hcs3 speakers. But after some measurements and considering the size of our flat, found that our TV console too small (did not cater for an AVR initially) and dont where to mount the 2 satelite speakers considering our false ceiling already done. Finally, my wife and I thought we should compromise and get the Philips HTS7200 instead. Anyone used this before? Is it good?

hi yuene, my wife will be happy to know that someone thinks that her light is unique.. hahaha... anyway hows the HO of your house? I am also targeting my HO by this weekend, Yen is getting his carpenter and tiler for final touch-ups. Outstanding items: 1. Change tile at the entrance due to scratches caused by the workers. 2. Carpenter to change a laminate of my tv console, also due to scratches caused by the workers. 3. Yen to assess if the scratches on the hob can be removed (also caused by his workers), else poor Yen has to buy a new one for us. 4. Installation of glass door and glass partition between the living room and kitchen. 5. Carpenter to fit my kitchen cabinet with blum anti-slam 6. Get workers to help me with installation of my pole system wardrobe (bought from Ikea). 7. Get CNS to install my main gate. 8. Clean up the house again. 13 Nov here we COMEEEEEEEEEEE

Almost there, but not there yet The progress is painfully slow over the last 2 weeks. The carpenter has completed his installation last week, the painter did his final touch up last sat, the electrician has mounted all the lightings (and powered up my water tank) and the cleaner came to clean up the place. Now I am waiting for the solid surface as well as the partition glass between the kitchen and livin room as well as the glass door between the kitchen and living. Pictures taken today and last week. Mainly on the carpentry and the dining area light, my wife's baby, she loves it so much..... Kitchen Cabinet without the solid surface My wife's proud addition, the dining area light TV console and sattee Common toilet left side. My toilet is soo tiny, I cannot take it inside. Common toilet right side

Hi dexufto, I am thinking of the $188 gate + additional $50 to galvanise it. Which gate did you get? Are you changing the lock set?
-
Carpentry Arrived My carpentries arrived yesterday morning and it was 80% done when I went up last evening. The carpentries include tv console, kitchen cabinet and shoe cabinet. The laminate selected has a wood design and the idea is to match the brown walls in the living room (and the dark brown wall for the painting). Pictures below. Kitchen cabinet, also used as the parition between the living rm and the kitchen TV console without the feature wall (no $$$ to build ) Arrival of my carpentries in LOGO form Will not be able to upload more photos till next month.... I have utilised the 100MB upload size for the month.

Do you have to pay extra to get it galvanised?
