Ms Nandar Tun and her husband had paid interior design company Start Ideas over half of the $22,750 renovation cost for their four-room HDB flat.
But two months after the renovation started, work suddenly stopped.
They were not the only ones caught in such a situation.
According to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case), six others have filed complaints with them about Start Ideas.
All had similar stories uncompleted renovation work and trouble contacting Start Ideas' owner, Mr Marcus Tham, 42.
They had paid between $10,000 and $80,000 each.
None of them has got a refund, despite at least three police reports and three successful claims with the Small Claims Tribunal.
