Of cos they sounded great. They are pro-monitor. Designed to be accurate. They are actives like mine. They made excellent HT speakers. Each speaker has their own dedicated power amp for the power and dynamics you need. You can get a AVR or processor with pre-out. Hook up the pre-out of the avr or processor to your speaker and sub. Then your blu-ray, set-yop, ps3/xbox to hdmi input and hdmi output to tv or projector. (blu-ray, set-yop, ps3/xbox) --- hdmi input--- AVR / Processor --- rca output --- HS50m & Sub --- hdmi output --- TV or projector See if you are able to get 1 more speaker. Just one for center and you got one heii of a HT setup. For avr with pre-out, see: Emotiva UMC-1 Denon 2311 Yamaha 667 Onkyo 706 Edit: Noticed the speakers got no RCA. You are still do with RCA interconnects from avr / processor to your speakers via RCA to XLR convertor. LHS got sell.

The following are just my experience n my opinion for your reference only: For ht setup, others say the most impt component is centre and sub. But it felt front left right and centre plus sub are all impt. You heard these at work most of the time. HT is very technology driven. The source/player and avr changes too quickly which i felt its not worth to spend so much on them. My yamaha 2500 was 3 years old without hdmi. Now no value liao. Hence, I channel all most of my budget to speakers. The placement and speaker size will have alot of impact to the final setup. Satellite in 3m x 3m bedroom are acceptable. But no no in the hall cos it get distorted when you pump up the volume especially your hall is very open. I would go for bkshelf or floorstand for a fuller and louder sound. If kids are a problem like me, wall mount bkshelf speakers are the best solutions. You get to keep the kids out of reach and still maintain enough loudness. but missy might not like it. For me, I would look at easy to drive speakers for a start becos your budget does not allow good high current multi-channel amp to drive them. So I would suggest: Focal 700 or 800 series PSB Image series KEF Q series Monitor Audio Bronze and Silver series Paradigm Monitor SE series THiel SCS series Proac Studio series All the above are only a hand full of the popular speakers which are definitely to bring you good sound at a price. But no one say you must buy all at once. We can buy in components. Get front left right first, center if budget allows + a mid range AVR (500 - 800 is more than enough). Sub will be next and follow by surrounds. For source, there are tons of options, either a player or a HTPC or a media player. My take is to go adelphi for a walk and have audition on those listed for your reference. You shall decide if they worth the investment. My approach to HT is very difference from others. I use active speakers with processors while others usually got for multi-channel amp or avr with passive speakers.

Very challenging budget, bro. 5.1 + AVR + Blu-ray + big sound + cabling. I can't think of any combi which fit into your budget with reasonable sounding setup now... With so many components to fit into 1.4k, there is definitely a compromise. Of cos you can dispute you can get those you have listed, but none of them are upgradeable. so if you want change. alll will have to go. so the cycle repeats. hope you understand.

MA has metal dome tweeters. So you might to be careful with pairing them with bright sounding AVR. Pioneer and Yamaha are considered as brighter sounding (Does not mean no good). Denon and Marantz are more dark sounding. Onkyo has the drive. I would consider marantz first then denon follow by onyko. AVS Marantz SR7005 owners club MA owner thread

Dt 600 and sfx are classified under satellite speakers. Without considering other factors like sound and matching components, Dt n tannoy are suited for bedroom or small room. Jamo will sound "better" and louder in your hall. Try cranking your Dt loud in your hall and you will find it sounded hash and distorted. Law of physics apply.

Now wait a second. Since when I made personal attack remarks??? Since when I accuse you for shoving 800 series to anyone??? Why wager money at me then??? That statement you made is a personal attack. You are insulting someone with money! That's uncalled for a gentleman debate. B&W is over-priced here and that's a fact. You can afford then by all means. For the record, CM series is as capable of doing stereo/music and in HT. Didn't you know that any speakers that do well in stereo does well in HT but not the reverse? Scan thru this B&W Club, bro. It's too bad you can't take comments for others. Have it your own way. I won't be wasting time arguing anymore. For the readers: there are tons of option out there. Do take reference of the list I made. When considering your HT or stereo, placement is very important. The same system will sound totally different in your room and in your hall. Speakers made the most prominent different to any changes follow by pre-amps, amps and source. Factor more money to speakers as they are more consistent. Get mid range players (<1k) and AVRs (500 - 1k). They are technology-driven hence they get obsolete very quickly. Everything in the equipment chain make a difference. HIFI is all about matching, it does not mean expensive = good. vratenza: You are not going to miss anything using PS3 as blu-ray source. Go avsforum.com. Tons of them as using blu-ray as source. There are several and consistent firmware release to make fix your PS3 problems. They are releasing firmware patches for 3D capabilities too. Good Day, cheers

Well I did list a couples of popular brand names for consideration which you didnt right. I have also point out focal dome and kef kht3005se. Not familiar to you? I have also trying to stop truth8 from downgrading . What are you trying to prove waging money? Oh yah. Some ppl got 800 diamond. Overpriced in singapore fyi. There is another kind of gangster who don't use weapon. They use money Cheers.

Well congrates for acquiring the B&W 800 Diamonds! Budget alone is insufficient info to recommend a sensible setup for someone "experienced" like you. Speaker setup locations and placement are as important as the equipments. For a 3k budget, 5.1 bookshelf speakers will be a better setup than the DT in a hall or 4 x 4 m room. Go re-read your 9 pages of suggestions. Read them with open-mind. I got 3 of my kakis to read them all share the same conclusion. I think you are too upset by my comments. I understood the feeling, it is hard to accept the truth for "experience" person. Waging money at me huh. What's next? Parang at downtown east? For sub, look at Hsu research, seaton, JL Audio and many more. Do your own research. On behalf of the members here, I thanks you for your generous contribution and sharing. I just like to voice my views that you are being to bias toward those brands you owned/like. One person's meat is another's poison. DT may float your boat but KEF KHT3005SE or Focal Dome may suit others better.

First do respect your knowledge but I can't resist but comment that your suggestions to the rest are EXTREMELY bias. A person's meat is some other poison. I have read through the entire 9 pages of thread and I found that you are "leading" them to buy the brands YOU prefer instead of their own preference. There are alot of other alternatives out there with better sound quality that suits their need. Can you explain why PS3 is not for movie watching? PS3 is fully capable for serious home theater application doubling up for gaming. Oppo is a very capable Bluray player with some people using it as transport. High-end audio company are also OEM from them. But it does not mean everyone must be it. For a price tag is $999, it is not for everyone and there are definitely other alternatives. Of course, not the quality of Oppo but at least 60% of it at lesser price tag. PS3 is a perfect example tintin: Don't limit your choice to just Onkyo. I would suggest you look at speakers first. AVRs and source are technology driven. They get obsolete very very quick. Invest more in speakers then match them with a good amplification. Do consider the location of your set. It affects the type of speakers used and their amplifications BlurRhino & Kumikotamago: See below truth8: I hope I'm not too late to stop you from dumping Aud 50. It is a very capable speaker. It is definitely a better speaker than Def Tech. Aud 50 is replaced by Excite series. Move it to the rear for surround and get Excite series for left right center if you have the space and budget. Focus is the popular range. For the rest don't limit yourself to Def Tech speaker, you can look at: wharfedales http://www.wharfedale.co.uk/; KEF http://www.kef.com/en; Acoustic Energy http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/; PSB http://www.psbspeakers.com/; Focal http://www.focal-fr.com; Paradigm http://www.paradigm.com; Q Acoustic http://www.qacoustics.co.uk/; Quad http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/; etc... For AVR Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Parasound, Rotel, Pioneer, etc... PS: I would like to quantify myself for not being a guru in this field. I'm no one special but someone who paid "$" to learn for each purchase and research.
