Thanks! But I notice that the HDB letterbox use a different type of key (don't know the name for that type of key). Some cam lock that I saw outside uses the 'normal' type of key. Duro letterbox key is the same type as the existing HDB letterbox key? I called the letterbox contractor in the town council website. A lady referred me to another phone number and the guy quoted me $40bucks which I think is very ex!

Hi Anyone has a good and reliable locksmith to recommend? Has almost finished my renovation and wants to change my main door and letterbox lockset. Also, thinking of the key-alike system for the main door and padlock. Thanks.

Quotation For Overhaul Of 5i Flat - Is $60k Reasonable?
JeanL replied to morningstar's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
We paid slightly less than 40K. Rip out all finishes. Hack kitchen wall. This quote however exclude the cost of kitchen cabinets and wardrobes. We got Closet Design to do these works, very good workmanship and service. It also exclude the cost of marble materials for our living / dining. -
Quotation For Overhaul Of 5i Flat - Is $60k Reasonable?
JeanL replied to morningstar's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
While scrutinizing cost is important, choosing a good ID or contractor is equally important as well. We did an overhaul of our 5-room flat, signed the contract with Aranus, who gave us a very good price and promised the heaven. But as the saying goes, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. No coordination and bad workmanship are what we get. And rectification is something that sometimes cannot be done, and we are forced to swallow. Asked yourself if these are things that you want to live with. When you pay more, you see the good results, at least you see the value and that money is well spent. -
Heard a lot about cracking for glass hob, but really, whose glass hob has cracked? Only know that for tempered glass hob, don't seal the edges cos they are weakest at the edges, must allow for expansion. Guess the same applies for backsplash, depends on how they install it.

Try ironmongery suppliers, people like Tiki, Ewins, Yong Hup etc. But these people do projects, don't know if they will retail one set to you. At least get them to advise u where to get it if they can't sell it to u.

Bay Windows
JeanL replied to january's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
For new condo developments, u will not see anymore bay windows because URA regulations have changed. Last time, bay window areas are not computed as the development's gross floor area, so Developers provide them so that the unit saleable area would increase. But now, there is no such exemption anymore, no more advantage for developers. So most have stopped providing. -
Yeah. Contractors will likely use spray painting to pass off as powder coating. Spray paint is easily scratched and comes off easily. Powder coating goes through a chemical process and would not come off easily. Challenge your contractor!

Anyone Done Stainless Steel Worktop For Kitchen?
JeanL replied to fattyfatfat's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Don't know about stainless steel worktop, but I used to have a stainless steel top dining table. I find that it is very high maintenance, you will always see water stains afer u clean it. Sometimes after it is dry, the water mark still remains, pretty unsightly. Also, the problem of uneven surface, after sometime, somehow, the stainless steel sheet and the backing sort of debonded at isolated locations, causing the unevenness. Btw, stainless steel comes in different finishes, hairline, non-directional, polished, just to name a few. Each finish also has it's own pros and cons. -
Alamak, we also bought from them and also has been recommended by our ID contractor. We didn't check out other shops after that, maybe we have been con as well...
