  1. just a wild guess, when the original architect (is he still around????) in the 70's din foresee HDB housing would last so long, hence the initial allocated floor usage for bathroom may have additional special waterproofing treatment more than the kitchen, which may not be as "wet" compared to bathroom....
  2. I think i read somewhere in RT from bepgof there is no such thing as perfect one-way films, ie can look outside from within while outside looks like a mirror... not like those used in CID where criminal suspects parade in a room for witnesses to identify.... even if there is, prices may be prohibitively high... so i just make do with sandblasted films, blurs/diffuses the image when viewed thru but still allows natural lighting to go thru. ya, chicken brand, prefer to have a rust-free bathroom for complete peace of mind....i try not to be penny wise pound foolish with purchases....things that are used everyday need better quality and durability...... some more songcho give with lifetime warranty with purchases exceeding a certain amount....nothing much to lose...
  3. Looks like halogen or LED bulb with two pins.
  4. Last night J&J came to apply frosted film onto the corridor windows.... was surprised they reported work at 7pm and finished everything by 9pm Taki glass film used.... some jepoon brand... Bottom sliding windows frosted....top windows remaining... Installer told me to leave it untouched for at least 3days for the film to completely dry and stick to the glass surface... Meanwhile bought some songcho stuff for the bathrooms...
  5. i din use 50mm base for fridge/wm liao... i mean how often do i flood the kitchen while washing floor?
  6. have to be careful with illegal/unauthorised modification as before resale completion, if TO see something unauthorised, seller have to make good....
  7. what's the annual dividend yield/DPU?
  8. Market open 2.16, only earn 20c, deduct away water money only earn $180....
  9. looks like the FCU receiver unit failed. shd be able to replace.
  10. kitchen wall/floor tiles looks fresh and new....
  11. well i think, if the hollow-block wall were to flush with the kitchen wall, it's only a max gain of 1ft for the bathroom, not here not there....
  12. Today came and "chup" touchup areas that need rework, eg, new AC/power trunking, pencil marks on ceiling, inconsistent color patching, doorframe areas, switches/powerpoint areas.... another round of mopping the floor in the afternoon...
  13. cool!!! but make sure to give ample time for the hollow walls to dry before screeding and painting, else hairline cracks will develop (due to shrinkage of cement) over the outlines...
  14. Today is DIY day :D got my hands dirty and start puttying the gaps in grout lines of my LR... My tiler was asked by my main con to come do touch up on wednesday... but told me he can't do much as there are so many things being done (see previous posts)... but he gave me some colored cement powder for the LR and white powder for the kitchen, briefed me on how to mix...... One might have thought the tiler should come another day while nobody was working in the flat, but then again, i would prefer to do some minor touchup myself as I can focus on picking out the areas better (rather than leaving it to them)... first time trying this... agar-agar mix one spatula of colored cement powder to few rinse of water, mix well and gotten to a gooey paste, consistency not too thick (can't stick properly and fill the gap) nor too liquid (can't fill gaps), so long the consistency is somewhat like cream cheese at room temperature, should be able to fill the gaps w/o problems.... Actually it's quite fun to DIY this, much like spreading butter or cream cheese..... using a scraper, use the width and putty along the lines... give it few hours to dry and then scrape/wipe off excess dried cement powder, even the door frame gaps are puttied nicely....
  15. Cos I'm quite a hands-on person who is curious about how it's done, at the same time "supervising" n checking the subcon for workmanship, correcting mistakes on the spot n ensure problems dun snowball until beyond economical rework. If dun have the luxury of time, a few milestones are impt to be present, eg, carpentry, plumbing, aircon, electrical wiring. Others need not really be present also nvm. ;p
  16. bepgof, this few days got play SGX anot?
  17. i think, anything that involves windows, big or small still require HDB permit.
  18. yes, you can. just to make sure what you want, take pictures of the existing connection point, and tell the shops you need for the extension cable... you can buy off-the-shelf cables at 1/2/3/4/5 meters or get it customised (better quality) at level 3 shop called LHS. Look for Robert and he shd be able to help u. but you may need to buy trunking to nail above your skirting to conceal the cables. good luck.
  19. changing of windows requires permit and minimum already cost 500 buxx...
  20. can be done, just buy a female-female gender changer and additional length of coaxial cable and some 0.5" trunking from your neighbourhood hardware store can liao... shd cost less than 15 buxx
  21. they will bill owners at a later date... i just had mine done up yesterday.... not really worth to wait for the free/discounted installation at the cost of opening & damaging false ceilings & dirtying the interior...penny wise pound foolish.
  22. is considered slow by my main con's standards liao.... but honestly speaking, he has got a team of efficient subcons working for him for a long time, so his subcons know his standards and character... his record for 70k+ complete teardown of EM flat is one month.... even includes rebuilding glass staircase.... :)
  23. reno is almost completed, nothing really much to post for a 3rm liao, still got to DIY some touchup and hope it will not be back-breaking....
