  1. I had my galant table diy installed also. but I bought the wrong A-frame legs which when installed, the table edge was too far from the wall. Went back exchanged for the T-frame legs which are much better (but cost a bit more).
  2. QUOTE (davyan @ Dec 10 2010, 02:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hi, any more recommendation? me too need polishing for my soon-to-move-in marble floor house try Jin's Brothers, they specialize in marble polishing.....their quote is extremely attractive
  3. Tore down the entire stolmen to relocate the pole system, found another place which causes the vibrating noise… it's the darned piece of 3mm rear chipboard that's inserted at the end of the drawer cabinet. That huge thin piece will start resonating once the drawers are closed or I slightly bump on the drawer… Solution was to use silicon seal around the perimeter gaps such that they no longer vibrate freely, and that really solved the problem… Conclusion When installing stolmen systems, the following items are recommended for a sturdy and silent experience 1. Clamp on the joint parts 2. Apply silicone caulking around the edges of the rear 3mm chipboard 3. Upgrade with better runner tracks (optional, if funds allow)
  4. No lah, still very far from the seasoned contactors… that's y my name is neubie
  5. Here's the description of the stolmen... Instruction guide The actual accessory, less the screws/washers/nuts... take note the V-strips are designed to just hold the pole in place; it is not any load-bearing structure, only the base is.
  6. Paisay I dun have my electrician contact as my main con settled everything for me. :/
  7. welcome fellow 3roomer......wow, the aluminum toilet doors!!! very retro!!! tink ur two toilets combined together will be very spacious.... but i tink rushing reno to complete by CNY (3Feb2011) maybe a bit tight....
  8. sourcing for the seemingly right ID/contractor can either be a satisfying one or cans of worms.... as an ID/contractor he/she has to have full control and 2-way feedback of his subcons... what is feared most is if he/she is very aggressively signing contracts with clients w/o due care/respect of the committed handover time. also, some ID/contractors will hire the SAME group of workers for their work, which that'll at least have some guaranteed workmanship standards that is mutually agreed upon. worse thing is if he/she chew more than they can swallow, high chances of problems will come up... small defects/deficiencies usually can leave it till the last to clear, provided they dun not affect the subsequent milestones of the reno process (cascading mistake). big defects will have to immediately rectified with them... but then again, what you think is serious may not be high priority to them, so have to be prepared for that... having said that, your reno is coming to an end, I think all unhappiness will fade off as time goes by, it's an experience one can forgive but can never forget.... cheers.
  9. Ya, agreed i ever approached ur ID before, definitely one of the better IDs around....
  10. best is buy liao dun ask worth it or not. goods already bought, damage already done.
  11. acherly no harm trying to get ur contractor/ID to help u, for all u know, he'll get someone pop over and help u as part of his value-added services....
  12. should be able to, since the user manual states if the ceiling is unsuitable for securing the pole, there are brackets and accessories provided for wall fastening. i will try to scan the manual and post it here tonight.
  13. no, it's not as simple as polishing car. the process basically cuts away some surface (and it stinks and dusty big time) to get rid of the scratches.
  14. I think Darwin is one of the featured ID in ch8 TV on last Tuesday...... attitudes of some ID/contractors sometimes change drastically pre and post contract.... pricing alone will never reveal the true colors of their mentality/attitudes. perhaps they are really busy with other projects, which some feedback during reno take a lower priority than others... you having problem with ur ID? tell him to buck up, else payment delay lor....
  15. nice & simple layout your aircon is in living area to cool both the kitchen and living room at the same time? take note of drilling on RC beam. if can avoid best avoided. if cannot make sure u drill not more than 1" deep.... you'll need an impact drill to do this, if u need it, can t-loan u on return, buy me kopi.... haaaa
  16. $130+ for this... there are cheaper ones at $60+ but the plumb line is only projected in front and not top.... quite useful to check if your contractor did anything that is not straight (ie, cabinets, L-boxes, false ceilings, windows, doors, anything imaginable..etc., so can ask them make good :D :D
  17. stolmen can oso be mounted/secured to walls if ceiling is not suitable, there are supplied accessories also.... i more or less solved my shakiness problem liao....
  18. Just got my hands on a self-leveling laser meter, takes the hardwork and guesswork out of mounting stuffs like picture frames, clocks, racks, shelves, etc.... all will be perfectly mounted.... hehehe Comes supplied with tripod stand oso...
  19. Found replacement runner tracks for the cheapo ones. Went back to my fav hardware store, looked for 450mm Blum tracks (the same 560H series used in my kitchen and TV console) runners. Below shows the stock Ikea runners.... and retrofitted with the Blum ones.... end effect is so much quieter, smoother and better Stock runners Blum runners Note that a little sawing at the end is required to accommodate the broader Blum stalk (see first photo, top right corner) which is twice as wide as the OEM one.
  20. An update to the remedial actions taken to secure the aluminum poles. For the end/mounting fittings, small pieces of semicircular plastic sleeving is used to line between the pole and the clamp to have a better grip while preventing scratches. Referring to the below photo, the left normal sleeve is used when the fitting is clamped on the main pole which is thicker. The center ribbed sleeve is used on the extension pole which is thinner. Supplied sleeving As the wobbling noise occurs at the joint between the thicker & thinner pipes (see below), what was done is to secure the clamp on this joint here, such that half of the center-ribbed sleeve is for clamping the thinner pole while half of the normal sleeve is clamping on the thicker pole. Using a penknife, cut across the length of the sleeves and use that then clamping onto the joint. Main/Extension pole joint Modified sleeving Modified sleeving lined to the clamp End result, no more wobbling noises....
  21. Allow me to clarify. The supplied runner tracks by stolmen has this spring-retractable mechanism that is supposed pull back the drawer completely. but yes, there is no damping mechanism. i will try to show a closeup view of the stock mechanism. Stay tuned for details. As to the vibration/wobbling, i will try to do something tonight and see if my solution works.
  22. ikea charges $50 (stand corrected) for delivery per trip. for my stolmen poles, i just put them diagonally across the left front seat across the rear right seat, so long dun obstruct driver's view, can still be done
