  1. ok thanks for your advice. But what is pure MIJ ? toshiba-carrier inverter: any difference with those normal aircons that r mounted on the wall? I saw a neighbour mount up another type that's attached to the windows & lets off really hot exhaust air, can feel the hot air flushing out through the machine when we walk along the corridoor.
  2. Thanks for posting this BTU write-up for aircons. My dad is crazy about BTUs for aircons in all his homes. He would go on a huge theory of BTUs for his own aircons, which he would normally have 2 to 3 units for his living rooms, including dining areas. But which brand would u recommend? I always hear of leakages from aircon & those happenings r a great nightmare! My chinese sinseh's clinic (TCM) had 3 units of LG aircons but they were problematic since installation. I'm using Fujitsu at home, also 3 units and they r more than 15 years old. The plastic covering has already turned yellow but still working well even though they take quite sometime to cool the room. Any words of advice? Just in case they go dead one day, then I could figure out which brand to go for. Thanks in advance!
  3. Yes correct it's something like that... I think IKEA's things should be pretty lasting. A wall mirror made of pine wood but painted in dusty green followed me all the way through from my younger days (1990s) to my matrimonial home, and still looks great Really worth the price.
  4. I'm not sure if this cutlery tray that u r referring to is an equivalent to a stainless steel grille that is placed above the basin for storing wet cutlery after washing ur dishes. If it is, u could buy it from IKEA. The product is known as LÄMPLIG trivet and is shown in the link below. http://www.ikea.com.sg/en/catalog/detail.a...d%2Caccessories It doubled up as such a function for one of our sinks even though it is not made for such a purpose. Fits perfectly above our basin, for more than 6 months already and doesn't come crashing down into the basin. $9.90 each. I'm not sure about its durability given its low cost & that it's made in China.
  5. hi friend, where is ur voting segment for polling? skim through contents briefly. I'm neutral about some sections but found others like the presence of wealth in one's bazi disagreeable. Different from ziwei's interpretation.
  6. Has anybody here have had any constructive feedback of White Space Living? It's related to Substance Living. Spoke to a professional from Substance Living and he came across as knowledgeable, professional & extremely patient even though I mentioned to him that I am only doing alteration to my flat's bedroom, not a major uphaul such as a renovation. I would be most grateful if any feedback about them could be shared over this forum. Thanks in advance!
  7. Initially, I thought about getting swing-slide doors for my kitchen, toilets too... love the concept initially. And they use phenolic-resin panels, which makes the door look really stylish & nice. With wood-grain textures too. Something very updated. Appearance wise, looks flimsy & not very sturdy as compared to sliding doors, which takes up space even though the current trend is such that it has been streamlines to give a sleeker look. PD doors are also silent in its mechanism. But definitely not for heavy duty usage esp when u have many guests in ur house
  8. Very dangerous... although kids do grow up after sometime
  9. Do u know of any reno contractors who had good workmanship? A couple of contractors that we spoke to told me that the floor tiles would be damaged when they reinstate door. And some even said that there will be cracks on those walls that r put up. My sister inlaw saw 2 flats who had their walls reinstated. The workmanship was quite bad according to her. Any lobang?
  10. PD doors r subjective. There r some RT members who gave positive feedbacks on the quality but those PD doors that I've seen my neighbours have were falling apart or jammed within a very short period of year.
  11. My inlaws had to knock down the rockstore for the ceiling, walls and replace floor tiles & they also renovated both toilets. Kitchen was also fully renovated. Repiping, relocation of electrical ducts, etc. No more cornices after the nightmare. Total bill was $35,000. But they had other repair issues on & off for the first 2 years.
  12. Many types of skin irrtations & problems are a result of (internal) health conditions. For acnes, you've got to have your health condition cleared inside out, meaning that to get a complete cure, u've got to regulate ur own health first: ensure that emptying bowels first thing in the morning is done at great ease (upon waking up), already in deep slumber by 11 pm, eat well (no skipping of breakfast). Avoid anything (where it's possible) with pepper contents in food. Based on my experience, pepper has a frightening after-effects on those with any medical conditions. e.g. people with cancer would see their cancer cells spreading after consumption of pepper. Have u ever tried consulting a TCM practisioner?
  13. Yes u r right: Hong Chuan from brighthill temple (Hor Pak See Monastery) is a very well-learned person in FS. He had the doors of the shrines tilted at an angle - that was something that was noticeable by many when they visited.
  14. Is Chew Design the same as Chew Interior? We spoke to somebody there 6 months ago. That fellow who answered the call was very snobbish, "yaya" with a take-it-or-get-lost sort of attitude. Miserable. We didn't think any client could be in safe hands when dealing with such a person. So are these 2 firms the same?
  15. Hi neubie, if I'm intending to rent out rooms or the entire HDB flat, your suggestion wouldn't work at all. Thanks for your creative input anyway
  16. Hi folks, my MBR (master bedrm) & my common bedroom is amalgamated when we first bought it from the owners 10 yrs ago. However, we would like to reinstate both rooms. Would anybody be able to recommend a reliable & experienced contractor who could put the wall back for us (and recreate the door location for the common room)? Many thanks in advance!
  17. U can go for sliding doors, that's if u do not have a space constraint. Sliding doors are also the most durable. Please PM if u need the contacts becox I could refer you direct to the manufacturer (who does installation for condo projects & bungalow). If u have kids at home, please do not use sand blasted doors - I've got both my sandblasted doors installed by manufacturer, but it's very difficult to maintain. Should have gone for PVC panels, which is cheaper.
  18. If ur gate comes under the exposure of weathering e.g. hot sun, rain, shine, etc, it is definitely necessary to go for hot dip. For gates which r hot dipped, the finishings would be a bit lumpy in view of the chemicals. U should go for Metalworld Pte Ltd. They might be on the pricey side but they have great aftersales service (referring to their HQ). The foreman, George Yeo, is a very professional & experienced engineer whose well-versed in the ergonomics of gates or whatever grilles they are installing for their clients. I used them when my fengshui master told me to tilt my HDB flat's gate; the workmanship was superb. "No horse run" in our Singapore lingo in Hokkien.
  19. Oh gosh, rockstone is a nightmare for us ... More than 10 yrs ago, one of my inlaws bought his matrimonial home based on the rockstone effect of a resale flat. After the previous owners shifted, both his wife & himself noticed that the rockstone had served as a very good camoflouge for defects, which includes leakages from pipings, ceilings and wirings. We ourselves had a rude shock when we stepped into their flat. The leakage from the ceiling was so bad & plastered with rockstone in such an exaggerated manner, and we wondered how come our inlaws didn't notice these problems. They paid $25k above flat valuation, thinking that they could do minimal renovation but they ended up removing the entire rockstone effects.
  20. ok guys thanks for your recommendations. By the way, my flat is just opposite wafer fab organisations, namely, UMC/ SSMC. We have aircons but if the tenant turns on the aircon for 8-10 hrs aday and full day on off-days (from work), then isn't the aircon part of the bill going to cost more than $100?? We're deliberating whether we should rent out our MBR, i.e. master bedroom (with toilet) or the common room next door. My girlfriend who owns a chain of stores in pasir ris told me to rent out MBR because she says we can ask for at least $800 or more. But my master bedroom toilet's door is made of sandblasted door (not tempered glass) so not sure if there'll be damages eventually or not... Right now, we have both panels encased with a thick protective film of plastic ... aiya I think u'll all think that I'm so "ngeow" lor Oh yes, any one of u would know of a reliable contractor with good workmanship? I'm thinking about putting back the wall b/w MBR & common bedroom next to it (have to reinstate the original door entrance for the common room) as well.
  21. 1 prop agent who visits my flat sometime last year also told us that noise travels upwards. So when there is some huge event going on at the foyer or basketball court, it'll be blasting off with loud music. Nowadays, we're immune to it already Good for old age becox at least, we'll not feel lonely in a super-quiest flat.
  22. I think it could be because the electrical room is directly under some of the 2nd floor units. And I do not really like lower floors in general because of the noise generated from car parks and kids screaming & hooting away on the ground floor... In some of the layouts, the 2nd floor units could appear really dark too.
  23. Hi january, like what muffin has mentioned in his previous entry, HDBs (and some condos) r too small to do any alterations. I think u better put aside that $$ for better use. I've seen people with so called lousy FS arrangements but it doesn't seem to affect them that much as it would have on me. My fridge is facing my stove - directly opposite. When I cook, it's so convenient & second-nature now (like we have to go toilet after eating...), for me to turn around and walk a few paces to grab things from the kitchen - very convenient. That taiwanese FSM whom we engaged laughed & said that it's no issue. If u want me to spend that sort of big $$ on reno & alterations, I rather camp along the roadside lor
  24. I agree that change of one's destiny is possible but it's very challenging (i.e. tough) with the intervention of one's bad karma brought over from past life (if a person believes in it). If you watch "taiwan long-juan-fong" (not sure what it's called in English but it's a super-long taiwanese drama), the matriach of the Ng family is well-versed in purple star astrology. She had explained this word "ming-ge" ("ming" as in one's life & "ge" as in character in chinese meaning). And as to why a person could forsee his ultimate outcome ("ming yun") based on their character ("xin-ge"). So to avoid the bad "ming yun", they have to recognise their own characters & its pitfalls, change their own attitudes, characters, etc to improve their luck & "ming yun". It's easy to quote what she says but to get it done, it's really tough.
  25. Yearly audit is to determine the "wealth" spot & the "water"spot or whatever u call it... because these spots change every single year. And because the geomency business here in Singapore (Asia in general) is linked to religion such as Taoist, some geomencers would highlight the neccessity to conduct certain prayers/ rituals e.g. "fan" tai-sui, praying to tiger general, etc. And it's also a chance to ask how the FS for the premises is going to affect the owners' luck. I've known of this aunty who don't just go for annual audits, she does audits every quarterly by a HK FS master & both her hubby & herself makes huge bucks out of their business.
