  1. Why should your King size bed come in 2 sections?? Do u think you should clarify with your ID as to what he meant by it coming in 2 pieces? And if it's going to be constructed as such, is it going to be strong enough to withstand the weight of 2 persons sleeping at the centralised region of the bed? I'm more concerned about the stability of the bed if the base of the frame comes in 2 parts. And from my perspective, "同 床 异 梦" has to do with superstitions in this case. It all depends very much on how "healthy" a marriage couples have had, not the bed they are sleeping in. There are many out there who slept on the same bed but are experiencing "同 床 异 梦". And on the other hand, there are those who might not be seeing each other everyday but have a very successful marriage. However, if it bothers you so much, then you've got to work with your ID on the construction of your bed frame.
  2. There r quite a handful of furniture shops who r going eco-friendly even with wooden furnitures. Like for Picket & Rail; and Little Wode at Wing Tai Building, these stores use rubber wood. The trees that no longer produce latex had been axed to make useful furnishings... I love that concept although we're still axing down trees but at least, they outlive their worth even after they stopped producing latex
  3. Hi thanks for sharing! That's really new to me I thought that the $1 coin was Ven HC's recommendation! Anyways, that's a nice juicy bit of news u've offered up here on this thread
  4. Can smell gun powder over at this thread... Let's just all keep to the contents of Fengshui & Geomency as stated under this section of the RT forum. And avoid religious contents which r ultra-sensitive.
  5. Hi, I still don't get that part about locked / fixed issue. My sister has a wooden platform constructed in her living room for her HDB where her windows (full length) r. It's definitely "locked" or fixed on that part of the floor. There is nothing below the plaform too. Does the HDB technical officer knows what he's saying?? U could reason out with him: ask for his rationale on the "lockable" type & ask him WHY must be "lockable" type. If I still don't get a credible answer from him, I'll go seek clarification from higher authorities.
  6. No idea how words of the story got around... But it did anyway. Malaysia copied the $1 bagua coin also. Then, sometimes, the merchants here receive their version here in Singapore and didn't realise it until the customer they passed the change to alerted them.
  7. He was supposedly one of the noble patrons of Venerable Hong-Chuan back then while the later was still alive. There was even a story as to how the $1 coin which took the shape of "ba-gua" (the 8 trigram) came into use in view of the MRT. That was said to be Ven. Hong-Chuan's recommendation & it was being implemented. Perhaps it's not his intention to promote superstitions which is why he is concluding that fengshui is "utter nonsense"?? If he gives the reply otherwise, the fengshui industry is going on an even bullish market when it's already quite "hot" in demand in Singapore already.
  8. U will only be slapped the penalty charges over interest if u default on your loan payments.
  9. Your flat looks huge. I reckon that this is an E flat or a 5 roomer? No odd angles or corners sticking out, I think it's easy to furnish the place...
  10. The IDs have to earn their bread & butter too so they will markup their pricing for every single piece of work involved. Otherwise, the IDs cannot survive without any lucrative profits / low margins. If you want to have it at a lower rate, you'll have to drop the ID and go ala-carte for your entire renovations, which is alot of work & hassle because u will take over the ID/ project manager's job in co-ordinating & overseeing their work. Meaning that, u need to get your own direct floor tiler, electrician, plumber, door installers, carpenter, etc. Sure save $$ on provision that all of them do a good job. Please PM me if you need to obtain a quotation from a licensed contractor who specialises in cement related works. I could provide you his mobile number.
  11. I'll be replacing my old POTEX toilet bowl with Maclaire (Geberit flushing mechanism) sometime after the CNY when our family friend has the time to change it for us. Had been told by several home users that the flushing mechanism from Geberit is powerful. If your purse strings allow it, you could try DURAVIT or GUSTAVSBERG because these run on Geberit flushing mechanism and the toilet bowls are imported (so definitely of premium quality). U can contact Yen from Econflo Systems (Beach Road showroom). She's very professional & knowledgeable. Highly recommended even though I didn't purchase the toilet bowls becox of budget constraints. Pricing between $800 to more than $1k. But where possible, please try to avoid those brands with 3 ticks on the PUB label - shown in sanitary ware showrooms. I was told by other retailers that 3 ticks meant that the WC uses the least amount of water when flushing take place. In other words this meant that very little water is used for flushing & as such, the force of flushing might be compromised. There might even be instances in which we've got to flush twice! So instead of saving water, we waste more water...
  12. Hi martin1023 Do u want to obtain another quotation for hacking of your tiles? I could PM u if u r interested because this contractor specialises in cement related works e.g. hacking of tiles, tiling, construction of walls, hacking of walls. With license & registered at ACRA here in Singapore.
  13. From fengshui to communicating with the underworld - wow what's going on??
  14. Please check with HDB on their current policy. They are the best candidates to address your situation since they are the law makers.
  15. Not recommended to believe too much because it "pollutes" the mind to a certain extent with unwholesome thoughts. Many humans who believe too much in these animal zodiac predictions couldn't get past letting their imagination run wild. And before they realise, they've got quite insane already...
  16. U have to either live with it or u have to talk to them nicely. But if u choose the 2nd option, there is always a risk that ur relationship with them will turn sour. U have to be very very diplomatic with them. There's a neighbour putting up few blocks away who does just what your neighbour did. His plants were stolen or destroyed but he couldn't pin-point at anyone because there are 6 units on the same floor. And all of them has to pass through his corridoor to go to the lift lobby. Did u notice those plants before you bought the place? Do they happen to own any small-scale nurseries here in Singapore?
  17. Over at Pasir Ris, twin sharing of common room is between $650-700. But it depends on the location. If it's at places like Ang Mo Kio & Toa Payoh, it'll definitely cost alot more.
  18. But both me & my hubby don't use the aircon. So we wouldn't be paying off the tenant's share of PUB bills... Can we use the bills for the past few years e.g. an average of $90 per month as a benchmark that we will only pay off that amount & the rest would be borne by the tenant?
  19. Hi folks, For rental of rooms (not entire flat), I was told that landlords could either: Option 1: absorb their tenants' PUB bills (by charging a higher rental fee) or Option 2: charging separately. Which is a better option? And what are the methods of billing for Option 2 (that's if any).
  20. Ur rental income will be taxed so long as u receive the income. Regardless of source/s of the rental income. U could confirm this with IRAS.
  21. If you can, try to retain HDB's original doors & fixtures. Based on my own experience, they outdo those in the market as they are mass-produced for HDB's projects. Veneer doors can't withstand scratches because those scars cannot be treated. Solid wooden doors are subject to aging so if expansion & contraction takes place in view of weather changes, you'll see them cracking up in a matter of time.
  22. If u are concealing the pipes, they will look good visually. However, in the near future should anything happen to your piping or when drilling is required around that area, you'll risk having to hack out all the tiles that concealed the piping. U might want to check with your renovator on its implications.
  23. Hi, What sort of notification is that? Is it because the previous owners defaulted on payment for TV license?
  24. I think u could get them done up by any upholstery store. U could try looking for James at Jimmy Textiles located at tanjong katong complex becox he's pretty experience as he dealt with requirements from hotels.
