  1. Hi Soichiro I decided not to install any shelves in there becox I'll be able to manipulate the limited spacing & stuff in all my barang-barang which r all odd-sized. So I rather just stack & pile up my boxes one on top of the other. It all depends on the users too! Like some neighbours used that area for storing DVDs or even shoe boxes, then, maybe, it'll be feasible to install shelvings. After installing the 2" tracks, I'm left with jux 10.5" depth for storage. As u could see from one of the photos, the space could accomodate to carton boxes for reems of A4 sized paper. Not unlike the other aluminium contractors, Han Fong Aluminium also provides quotation based on measurements - it's customisation. I only paid about $800 (incl 7% GST) for my common room, balcony and dining room. To us, it's really value for $ and very cheap given the quality. When the PVC starts aging (that would be maybe many years later), we'll be buying our own choice of formica designs from defu lane to paste them onto the PVC panels No issues in sliding those doors even with the formica pasted onto the PVC panels. Have u thought about installing wooden doors instead of aluminium? In our case, we haven't a choice becox we've got water seeping through the concrete walls below the windows when there is an extremely heavy rain. Some people got wooden cabinets made directly below the window where the recess areas are... but if we were to do that, our flat will be infested with termites soon!
  2. Hi folks, I only had this bit of space that gets abit of sunlight & fresh air outside my home. So we've decided to put in these 3 potted plants - named by us as the "tree" musketeers 2 pots of the ginger family and 1 pot of evergreen money plant. Here comes...
  3. Thanks for the compliments & best wishes I'll take photos & upload on this thread again once we peel off the plastic protective layer on the PVC - it'll look like bluish glass.
  4. <!--quoteo(post=625623:date=Apr 3 2011, 11:06 PM:name=zanntan)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (zanntan @ Apr 3 2011, 11:06 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=625623"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->should be 126sqm instead of sqf rite? <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But it's really huge <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/excl.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="!!" border="0" alt="excl.gif" />!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Paiseh leh... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Yes it should be 126 sqm. In fact, many neighbours with such a flat layout took down this dining room (it's actually a study room) and it gives the illusion that it's really HUGE! And alot brighter than mine. The photo below shows part of the night scenary taken from the left hand side of my dining room : The right hand side shows part of a wafer fab building. When we first shifted in, there was no wafer fab but an empty plot of land. But perhaps it's better than constructing a high-rise condo. Not sure what happens to the empty plot of land just next to it ... when they construct another wafer fab, hope that it's not as high rise... otherwise, my flat wouldn't be windy anymore. haiz...
  5. Hi forgotten, thanks for complimenting the cabinets below my windows My flat is a 5-room in Pasir Ris at 126 sq feet. But the kitchen & toilets are pretty small. We'll be installing our own kitchen cabinets from IKEA & would upload photos once they are up... Then u will be able to visualise how small our kitchen is We don't really cook that often, or perhaps just once or twice a month only. So not an issue.
  6. Here comes the lower half of my tilted wrought iron (cum stainless steel ring decor) gate from Metalworld Pte Ltd in view of fengshui recommendations from my taiwanese geomencer: Our main door is facing North-east, which according to many chinese is considered as the "Gui Men" or "Guan Men" i.e. devil's door or gateway to (not heaven but the opposite of heaven & is a 4-lettered word). But my taiwanese master had explained to me during the recent audit that the NE facing has been depleting in terms of Qi, luck or whatever fengshui jargon that he used, since 2003. And based on our bazi, it would be of paramount importance to get the gate tilted before 2003. Which of course, we didn't until last year (before the lunar 7th month). As such, we wanted us to tap on the Eastern direction, which would mean that in tilting the gate for just 1-2 inches, we would be tapping on the East, whose positive Qi or wealth or whatever he calls it, had been increasing like a bull market on dow jones. Not sure if it's coincidental but we believed in it now. Tilting the gate by 2 inches brought us great improvements in almost every aspect of our lives.
  7. Dining Room (cont'd) : The finished product after painting: Storage for my personal effects e.g. boxes of DVDs, knick-knacks, etc - no space is too small for optimising storage My storage motto: No wastage allowed down to even 1 inch.
  8. Dining room Our dining room had the same problem on structural discrepancies as the balcony. But we were amazed at how he sawed the short trunkings (sorry not sure what terminology to use) manually with a saw and the artwork was seamless! Applying cement to the gaps between the aluminium frame and the concrete walls at the sides: Red carpet had been brought in by Han Fong Aluminium's staff to minimise the cement spluttering all over the place. We were fascinated that the staff bothered to vacuum the aluminium dust from sawing during the first ocassion. For this second trip down, he bothered to clean up the place where the excessive cement fell onto the floor or tracks: After taking his lunch, he used a grayish type of plaster to smoothen out the cemented areas on both left and right sides:
  9. Here comes the mini lockset which had been installed on the spot by their installer :
  10. Balcony The balcony is a real headache when we got several aluminium contractors to drop by. Many didn't realise that there is a discrepancy in the height from the top of the concrete part (below the window) all the way down to the ceramic floor. It was only when 1 of the contractors highlighted to us that the concrete structure flanking the recess area is uneven, that we realised what the implications would be. That contractor turned down our assignment straight on the spot. The reason given was it's difficult to install cabinet doors in the balcony as we would be unable to slide the doors after installation. When Mr Kang from Han Fong Aluminium stepped in, he too noticed that the uneven height after taking measurement - the section on our left hand side is shorter in height. But he assured us that it could be done and that he might need to use an anchor to "hold" or balance up the frame (in the middle portion). And he told us that it wouldn't look so nice and he would try to see if we could avoid using the anchor. This photo shows his installer fixing the frame and the sliding doors at my balcony and no anchor is required The use of anti-mouldy silicon to cover the gaps between the frame and the concrete flanking the frame : Another type of silicon which is gray coloured with a different texture had also been used for the sides and bottom. For camoflouging. The finished product at my balcony - which is very messy because we are in the midst of doing a minor face-lift for my flat so it's extremely cluttered with raw materials and our "garbage" The plastic film that you noticed dangling down from one of the doors is the protective film. The original PVC has a very high shine, glossy surface. Just like glass. A close-up shot of the finished product. The reflection seen on the panels are from the huge stack of "goodies" piled up at the balcony
  11. We didn't have a camera at hand when Han Fong's inhouse installers dropped by during the first trip. So we only managed to take these photos when their staff came down for the second installation. Here comes the photos... The protective film of plastic had not been peeled off yet - so it doesn't show off any high glossy shine / sheen. It has the looks of the kitchen cabinet's concept in IKEA. It's just that their version is made of glass whereas ours is made of PVC Of the same/ almost similar colour tone. We intend to do the "opening ceremony" after we are done with refurnishing our homes : better to protect it from any accidental scratches... This is the finished product of a dual-panel cabinet door below the window for my spare bedroom: We were very surprised to see that they had used several types of silicon apart from drilling the aluminium frame to the concrete parts of the wall. And it came in several colours for camoflouging. The installer also explained to us that it is anti-mouldy and even when it gets wet, we won't have any issues of seeing those blackish-greenish mould spots staining the silicon in the near future.
  12. Hi folks, The recess area below my windows are subject to weathering from the exterior part of the flat and water leakages during heavy downpour are inevitable. As such, we had decided to opt for water-proof aluminium cabinet doors which are also known as vanity "drawers". Even though there obviously aren't any drawers behind those cabinet doors. We have interviewed several aluminium contractors and had eventually narrowed down to Han Fong Aluminium. The reason being that when the boss, Mr Kang himself came down personally to take measurements and provide a quotation, we were pleasantly surprised when he told us very honestly that he would recommend wooden doors instead of his aluminium doors. Additionally, he had demonstrated the depth of his knowledge with much credibility in his technical explanations. Both my hubby and myself were pretty confident that we got the right contractor to take up this assignment. And now that Han Fong Aluminium Pte Ltd has completed the installation of these vanity "drawers", we are very happy to share on RT forum that we are glad that we found them as we were in very good hands!
  13. Hi folks, I didn't engage F & A Aluminium eventually. Gave the assignments to Han Fong Aluminium Pte Ltd eventually. U can see my thread on works done by Han Fong Aluminium with photos under:
  14. Hi mae29, to add on, the red box - does it represent fire? It's like putting a frying pan on top of the sink, after cooking...
  15. $3000 a night! For jux one room? Well, if there are many one-rooms in there, it's worth the $. But if there's only 1, makes no sense to me becox who on earth will want to come face to face to be staring at the merlion for that one night's stay? Doesn't make any sense to me! And I thought that the merlion is supposed to be guarding Singapore & holding the fort? To keep "enemies" or negative energies at bay? Duno, not sure.
  16. We have elevated cement base for fridge, kitchen-cabinets-to-be & washing machines. Used to seeing these items elevated & being able to retrieve things at a comfortable height. If we accidentally dropped or spilled any wet things like gravy, juices, all these items are probabbly a lot saver on elevated grounds.
  17. Hormonal imbalance. I had that in the past becox of irregular mealtimes, munching on heaty food, sleeping late & dieting with slimming pills. Or if your body is overly heated up becox of toxins, you'll missed your periods too. There was a period of time when I missed my period for 2 months. I felt really moody & irritated... and my skin was really bad.
  18. Hi mae29, your digicam looks great with its high resolution! Whoa, I would have missed out those fine details if u haven't pointed it out. The rooftop resembles bat man crying, with long streams of tears (or eye wax) looking down at the temple! And what's that long "throat" at the front entrance? Looks like a fort to me, to protect the actual building against any "enemies" which is commonly found at the gateway of castles! As for the merlion, why has it been boxed up by a red box? Never follow news or have any interest in merlions... They looked really eerie & fierce to me.
  19. I watched this taiwanese documentary on you-tube that u could put a purple crystal on your work table. But I do agree with mae29 that u will need to deal with office politics becox they are part of working life. Today one friend in the office could become a foe who backstabs u tomorrow. Lie low. Don't share too much of your thoughts. Which meant that only speak when it is necessary, otherwise, don't tell your colleagues too many things. U may not have the intention to offend them but they might interpret otherwise. So the more is said & shared with your colleagues, especially your personal life, the worse things become. I was also told that to improve your affinity with people, you could try to put a mystic knot or wear it on your handphone or anyway u liked it to be. It's said to neutralise negativity & improve chemistry with others. I bought it as it is one of the 8 auspicious symbols in buddhism & placed it on my computer table. Gorgeous trinket-like item. Can even be opened up storing secrets... if any But a more pragmatic approach is to deal in person, head-on.
  20. Eh... I thought that woman is a medical doctor, not geomencer right? I think don't need to do all these procedures. There are many people, chinese or not, who jux get their keys & select a good day to start off with their renovation. The rule of thumb is that never do the reno during the Qing Ming period & 7th month on the lunar calendar. If u know how to read the chinese almanac, u could select your own dates too. The geomencers would combine both the fengshui of the flat & the chinese almanac - I was told by my sister & friends that every single house will have their auspicious dates/ months/ periods to do certain things...
  21. To add on ... U can also install a mini curtain to cover the toilet door... an IKEA concept in its showroom. It looks great too depending on the decor of your MBR
  22. U shouldn't be sleeping directly under the aircon! Unless u relocate your aircon elsewhere. And shift your bed nearer towards the window. That's if it's possible. Have u checked out with your neighbours who had the same layout, as to where they placed their bed in their MBR?
  23. I've got 3 bedrooms & 1 study room myself... Unless u want to rotate among the bedrooms For some people like an old aunty staying near our flat, she rented out the spare bedrooms. Extra income & she tells us that it's good to have humans breathing in those rooms!
  24. Worry not! Fengshui has nothing to do with spiritual dimensions/ connections. If say the fengshui for a place is good, there is no guarantee that it wouldn't be haunted. And vice versa. Hence, any beliefs of empty rooms being occupied by spirits r utter rubbish. I was once told by a shop that sells fengshui gadgets & ornaments that I shouldn't be leaving the beds in unoccupied rooms covered with bedsheets & pillow cases, as if there is somebody staying in there. She claimed that it is an invitation for spirits to occupy. Which I found her mentality odd. I asked my taiwanese geomencer & he said that it's utter rubbish. The only drawback from his perspective is that u get more dust collecting on those bedsheets since nobody is sleeping in the bed. And if the spirit decide to become a PR (permanent resident) in that room, it's becox of other reasons, not becox the room is unoccupied or fully furnished. And he also cautioned me that if one's mind is strong & not easily influenced by unpleasant/ negative thoughts, it's likely that those spirits would leave them alone - no effect so better look for another more vulnerable victim. Did u watch this Indian movie, Chandramukhi? It is filmed in 2005 & was aired in the theatres in India for as long as 2-3 years. I was told by the native Indians that it's based on a true life story, that got written into a book & subsequently, made into a movie, with many versions. There were many women staying in the same house but the female spirit of an ancient concubine only chose to possess the wife of the owner. Becox she had some mental disorder, a weak mind. There are rooms which had been occupied repeatedly by people and still end up getting haunted becox the spirits are already staying inside before the owners stepped in or it could be due to other reasons. So, please, to have a good kickstart with your new home, have a positive mindset. Do not allow your imagination to run wild!
  25. I wouldn't recommend anything fanciful unless it's recommended by a geomencer. Otherwise, the outcome might just be counterproductive.
