  1. Hi leechaorui, would u be able to share more of your experience (on IKEA kitchen cabinets) in greater detail? When u said that it collapsed, are u referring to the entire wall cabinets crashing down onto the floor? Or are u suggesting that the doors, or cabinets had warped? Or that the laminated surface had started to peel off? Did u get their kitchen cabinets recently i.e. within these 2 years? Or was it quite a long time ago? Do u have photographs of your IKEA cabinets which had declared "demise" shortly after its installation? Did u feedback to IKEA because they will be able to send an assessor down to ascertain the conditions of your cabinets and if the situation warrants it, IKEA might grant replacements which is of course, based on their discretion. IKEA's kitchen systems are definitely made of compressed wood and their kitchen systems are cut out for lifestyle in the western countries, whereby there is alot of baking and the use of dishwashers. It wouldn't do well by Asian style of cooking because of the frying, deep-frying and alot of washing at the basin. We bought the IKEA kitchen systems and would be installing them on our own. Apart from boiling water, washing hands & utensils in our kitchen & cooking instant noodles, we do not cook at all. Your comments on the low durability of IKEA's kitchen systems worries me becox we hv already bought the cabinets & they r stored away in flat boxes in our homes until we're ready to install them.
  2. Whoa u r very the smart leh... and very observant! I only bother about getting rid of my $1 coins becox they add on extra weight to my purse. Or I'll be counting the number of $1 coin in my piggy bank No idea as to why the coin appearance changed. I think it had to do with fengshui. Unless the big boss gives the answer, otherwise, we can only speculate on the actual reason
  3. Your opennet wiring should be done by authorised installers... fibre optics is very very delicate and fragile and requires careful handling.
  4. U can try buying on dealerextreme.com or sim lim tower - there are a couple of shops on the 2nd floor selling LED ceiling lights.
  5. Hi bepgof, Your answer always injects laughing gas... kekekeke In the past where people struggled to make ends meet, they've got no time to think of fengshui. when I was a kid, I used to sleep in a room with one of the worst fengshui layouts. I recalled having lot's of nightmares, sickly and even got hospitalised for dengue after playing doctor & patient in that same room with other kids! I was facing a wide row of windows; right side of collapsible bed is facing the bedroom door - and that door is never closed. Always opened wide - and thank goodness I never really wake up in the middle of the night except when I got sick. It was eerie to look out of that door becox of the shadows being cast onto the wall! And there were mirrored wardrobes behind my headboard; and on the left hand side of that foldable bed...
  6. I noticed that my $-plant had burnt marks on them especially at the ends where the new shoots were. So I figured out that they could be overly exposed to sunlight and took those "tendrils" of leaves back in. And they seemed to be thriving pretty fast even tho' some leaves seemed to have shrunk in size with darken edges. It was as if there were worms eating up some of the leaves...
  7. This is a photo of vanity drawers done in a similar fashion under the kitchen stove. The plastic protective film has already been removed so u could see the reflective surface of the PVC panels really clearly. It is done by another contractor earlier on but he is unable to "hide" those ugly black rubber strips on the inside of the sliding doors. So I would highly recommend that those ugly black rubber strips be concealed on the reverse side of the sliding doors for a "cleaner" look. Once we've installed our IKEA kitchen concepts, we will be reversing both doors becox those black rubbers spoiled the appearance of those already "obiang" stove. haiz...
  8. U could either continue to return those mailers to Singpost, indicating that those persons have already moved. Or, you might want to simply dump those letters into the bin. Things should settle down after sometime.
  9. We feedback to town council but they need to know where the water seeped in from. Still trying to figure out I wouldn't recommend PDoors. very flimsy & expensive. and the doors don't last according to many of our neighbours becox the swing slide mechanism isn't made for heavy duty usage. Aluminium sliding doors are supposedly the most durable but would hv its nails drilled to the floor. However, bifold saves space & doesn't require any drilling - I think so.
  10. U will not be able to mobilise any funds in their CPF account if they are only occupiers. Unless u include them as owners. However, u must take note that in the near future if they would like to withdraw ownership due to any unforseen reasons, u would be required to pay them the full amount of CPF monies that they have utilised for your flat, including its accrued interest. And vice versa should both u & ur fiancee decide to buy another flat of your own. Unless BOTH u & ur fiancee r mentally prepared to stay with your parents for good. Otherwise it can become a very sticky issue later on. U should also check with your fiancee if it is ok with her that she stays with your parents for life. And one more issue is that u need to check with HDB if your parents meet the criteria in obtaining a HDB loan (if applicable) at a concessionary rate. Please refer to this link: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10321p.nsf/w/...ho?OpenDocument If the owners could fork out the full payment for the flat, then no need to apply for HDB loan.
  11. Hi meemee, I think it's best if u get the expert to comment on whether there's a need to install another door frame or could an existing one could be used. U have to contact Han Fong Aluminium directly for a site visit. The harsh rain & sun that hits our flat directly is merciless becox it's totally unblocked on the front and back of our unit. The sun hits us direct and the rain washes down at our flat like nobody's business. So the exterior walls age really fast. The boss at Han Fong recommended that we engage a carpenter to do up those doors instead of using aluminium frames becox we will have an advantage of having more space. But no choice becox the rain seeps in when it's too heavy. *sigh* But those doors from Han Fong saved us tonnes of $$ as wooden ones are definitely more expensive.
  12. Customisation is more expensive becox it is not mass-produced like ready-made curtains. U could find China-made curtains too, made of polyester at $75 per pair in the market. If you are not fussy about the quality & prints on the fabric, you might be lucky enough to get those which are $50 a pair. If that's still way out of your budget, you might want to approach salvation army to check with them if they've got used curtains which are still in good condition. Or some 2nd hand furniture shops which might carry quality blackout curtains thrown out by hotels.
  13. Then, I didn't think they mean harm. Designer clock wor... it should be costly. Some clocks with those swarovski crystals embedded & lined up into a merry-go-round type of mechanism, can easily cost u $100+, all the way to thousands. So if the recepient dumped it into a bin then it's a pity. But to give it away for the charity, at least it's for a good cause
  14. Hi meemee, thanks for complimenting those sliding doors... We've not removed the plastic protective film on the panels yet. Otherwise, they'll look alot better, like the turqoise glass cabinet from IKEA's 'RUBRIK' kitchen series of cabinet doors High gloss & shine, with reflection... I've PM-ed u their contacts as requested. Best wishes!
  15. It doesn't sound like any orders had been made. Why don't u call them up for clarifications/ confirmation? If no orders had been made, u might want to consider more reputable retail stores e.g. Best Denki. I got all my electricial appliances from their outlet at Takashimaya. Very reliable with no issues upon delivery.
  16. Hi Ve_ve, have u found a contractor to replace your shower glass door? It's supposed to be tempered and shouldn't break into pieces that easily. If u still haven't found any replacements, u might want to consider asking Han Fong Aluminium. Their workshop is located at Ang Mo Kio. I believe that they do replacements and their workmanship & quality of material used are superb. They did my brother inlaw's shower screens & my vanity drawers. Value for $ with very good workmanship. U could take a look at my vanity drawers at my thread http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...c=39552&hl=
  17. The first explanation given to u is obviously an excuse! U could drop those suppliers who tell u this becox those who own workshops here in Singapore would be able to cut out the bifold doors & install it for you within days of ordering them. But those bifold doors that your parents acquired during their flat's upgrading programme are massproduced and may not be sold in the local retail market. I believe that theirs look very pretty with a handle that's used for opening the door & locking it at the same time right? I'm not sure about those doors becox my aunt had her toilet upgraded last year and the door handles are already threatening to come off. If you are interested in considering Han Fong Aluminium's bifold doors or whatever the boss would recommend, you could contact his wife, Mrs Kang. My kitchen door is a sliding type on double tracks but pending installation becox they will do it only after I've completed reno for my flat. But u could view my vanity "drawers" which were done by them under the following thread: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...c=39552&hl= {Vanity Drawers By Han Fong Aluminium Pte Ltd, (Below windows - for storage purposes)} Superb workmanship & value for $! I've done many interviews & surveys, and by far, this is one of the best & reasonably priced.
  18. Hi emobebe, I think most chinese are aware of such customs if they r brought up in Asia. However, if that Indonesian Chinese couple's motivation behind this gift is pure & well-intended, there shouldn't be any issues. Even if otherwise, just accept it graciously as u have done so. But if U would want to, U could jux tell them casually that it's taboo because it meant sending the deceased off during a funeral. Some companies used to reward their longer-serving staff with very branded clocks. Some European bosses used to give this type of branded clocks & watches to their secretaries & staff. And during housewarming too! Maybe U could consider donating this clock to charity.
  19. I would like to moderate my earlier comments. What marshmallow said about the location makes sense. But for majority of the flats, the location is relatively average & I didn't think that potential buyers would overlook the taking down of walls for such locations. Given the prime location of the bras basah flats, the taiwanese couple might jux be using the premises for business-related purposes. My brother inlaw is staying near a taiwanese couple who bought a jumbo 3-rm next door & took down all the rooms except for one. They used the premises for buddhist prayers & worshipping purposes. So during the prayer sessions, the open space which is the up-sized living room becomes a prayer hall for devotees.
  20. Typically, the rule is to place the clock such that it could be conveniently viewed by people staying in the house. In my dad's previous flat, he placed the clock directly above the entrance to the kitchen! It was the most convenient location. And a neighbour who has his flat audited every single year, installed a giantic clock right on the wall facing the main door! With a Guan-Di deity statue directly below it - that was errrr, very eye catching. I couldn't help but emphasize & reiterate myself once again as the clock was really HUGE! A designer piece. Setting fengshui aside in such a case, I actually thought that this wasn't the best place for positioning a clock. The clock seems to be more for anybody standing outside their home, not for those living in the flat. I would have wanted to seek their permission to take a photo of this "fengshui" arrangement if not for the guandi that they place below the giant clock. And several months ago, they've got their gate chained up, with 2 huge padlocks & red paint splashed over their doors. Not once but several times.
  21. Cancer is bad enough... but there r many out there who sees it as a way of life when they don't empty their bowels regularly. In fact, it's recommended that everybody detox everyday through purging out their waste through the proper channels. Rather than taking supplements or detoxification products. Not sure where they channel the waste to if not out of the body
  22. Back to the topic on pixius, I went to sim lim tower 2 days ago & entered a store that deals with LED downlights for false ceiling. I only noticed 2 huge giant pixius flanking their shop only after I entered it. Left the place immediately.
  23. From what I know, if humans don't discharge the waste from their bodies, toxins would be choked inside the body parts and depending on which body part "rebel" first, can turn cancerous.
