I have placed another order of this OptiLED ping pong bulb from Julian at CITILIGHTS becox I require another one for fengshui purposes in my kitchen. To be kept turned on 24 by 7 too! VERDICT: Excellent! After we hit off on the right tone with Julian from CITILIGHTS when we were still suffering from a lack of answers to our question on "what type of LED lights is suitable", we would swear by CITILIGHTS if we require any other lighting products in the near future. We were expecting a cool response as we had encountered in the other shops when we mentioned that all we wanted was an E27 LED bulb. However, we were pleasantly surprised that Julian had given us excellent service even though we only bought 1 LED bulb at $38. And just to reiterate that he didn't make us spend extra $ when he told us that we didn't need the $68 6.5-watt bulb, but the 2-watt ping-pong bulb would surfice based on our requirements! It was indeed value for money because he has shared his knowledge of LED lightings with us and it is definitely a heartening encounter to be served by a sales person who: a) knows what he is selling (product/ brand knowledge); b) very ethical becox he recommends based on his customers' requirements (not profit margin); and c) is passionate about serving his customers & selling them what they require. So if you are keen in getting LED lightings bundled with great service & coaching on the products you're buying, please do give your support to a professional showroom like CITILIGHTS LLP! -

I'm sorry if this upcoming photo potrays thoughts of a haunted house My canon powershot digicam doesn't seemed to take good pictures in the dark. We are still in the midst of DIY-ing stuff in our flat and had to put everything on hold first since the new neighbours staying above us is doing major renovation. We're monitoring for ceiling leakage which might possibly take place in about 3-4 months time after their reno is completed so for now, we're shelving our plans until thereafter. We had a sparkling effect on our tiles becox they were glossy & prone to reflections. But the effect looks good visually as compared to what's shown in the photograph above. The photograph also shows how the lighting spread across the space between the 2 bedroom doors as said by Julian from CITILIGHTS and what he had mentioned to us about the lighting being obvious only during the night is also true too! This goes to show that Julian from CITILIGHTS is very experienced & knowledgeable over his lighting products. -

My hubby has installed an E27 holder on the ceiling where our Taiwanese geomencer has recommended we place the LED lights 24 by 7. We tried to obtain other types of E27 holders without the "mushroom cap" as you could see a black "disc" (shadow) hovering above the light bulb. However, we didn't manage to find any. And using other types of decorative lighting fixtures would dim out the lighting, which is a no-no for us. So here comes a close-up shot of our OptiLED "ping pong" bulb at 2 watts only: And another photo of this bulb - we haven't repainted the flat & the grayish slab that you see in the photo are repair jobs done during demolition of wall to recreate the door to the new bedroom: -
Hi folks, I had started an earlier topic on "what type of LED lights is suitable?" under the following thread: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39636&st=0&p=625963&fromsearch=1entry625963 And finally, I got my answer from Julian at CITILIGHTS located at Jalan Besar. I have visited many light shops and wasn't satisfied with their services until I entered CITILIGHTS and had been served by Julian. I told him that I wanted Optiled's LED lighting because the Galaxy 6.5 watts lamp was bundled with a 3-year warranty even though this brand was made in China. So I figured out that the quality must be good given the relatively longer warranty period. When Julian probed me as to where I'm putting this LED bulb, I explained to him our requirements and he told us that we should be looking at the LED "ping pong" bulb which looked really small & cute with a crystal-like filament encased in the centre. And he told us that it consumes only 2 watts instead of the 6.5 watts from Galaxy lamp. And the pricing for the "ping pong" bulb was only half the price of the Galaxy. We had expressed our concern that the lighting for LED bulbs were "weak" as compared to the traditional halogen type of lightings. And if the area wasn't sufficiently lighted up, our objective of activating fengshui at that location wouldn't be met. Julian has started addressing our concerns over the lighting issues in a very professional manner. He had demonstrated how knowledgeable he is over LED lightings and we had acquired very useful knowledge from him as LED-dummies He had explained that the "ping pong" would serve as a lighting that is good enough for lighting up the pathway in between our 2 bedrooms. And he assured us that whatever painting that is placed on the wall in between the 2 bedroom doors could be clearly illuminated during the night. I asked him if he was certain this was the case becox I heard from many LED users out there that LED lighting doesn't have the ability to spread out lighting like their older counterparts. And that their "illuminated field" would be a vertical column. However, Julian has explained to us that those lightings with vertical illumination are of a different make e.g. MR16 becox the bulbs were contained in a holder and since lighting at the sides of the bulb are cut off, lighting couldn't be spread out. Julian has also explained to us that LED lightings aren't as bright & vibrant as compared to their counterparts which consumes more electricity. And he has also suggested that when LED lightings are used, the effects might not be as vibrant as when normal lightings are applied. Since Julian from CITILIGHTS have been been very honest & ethical in recommending us what we really require instead of selling us something that cost more (and he probably would earn a higher profit margin), we bought the OptiLED "ping pong" bulb from him at $38.

In addition to this painting, I have also ordered another larger potrait of a buddha, which I would be placing it on the wall flanking the left hand side of our main door entrance (when looking into the flat from the exterior of our home). I'll be uploading this other larger painting once I receive it.

Hi folks, I chanced upon an existing thread with beautifully furnished interior decor and got in touch with the seller of her buddha paintings. I bought one of the medium sized buddha painting from him yesterday and for the time being, have decided to mount the painting on one of the walls outside my studyroom (which we will be converting into a TV room). Once my flat has been repainted, I'll be positioning the painting at the balcony. The painting is textured and the buddha has a very serene & calming effect on us when looked upon.

Hi folks, does anybody know anything about Princebed mattresses? There are bad reviews on Princebed mattresses here on RT but the brand has reputedly been in existent here in Singapore for many many years according to the showrooms that we went to. here's the bad review (post #9 of the thread): http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15365&view=findpost&p=599531 I'm looking for customisation of an European King sized mattress (190cm x 200cm) for my existing bedframe and chanced upon a heartland furniture shop that sells this brand of mattresses in Tampines Street 81. The guy who served me, presumably the boss, asked me if I were sleeping in an air-conditioned room and I told him no. So he told me to avoid memory foam & lattex mattresses as those tend to be heat retainers. I was surprised because most of the retail showrooms that I went, had never mentioned to me that such mattresses would be hot. He went on to introduce one of the pocketed spring mattresses, coated with a layer of high density foam from Princebed. 11" thick. But he told me that the foam would flatten over time. Say in about 5 years, which to me, meant that it has a tendency to age fast, even though the warranty period says 15 years. And for a customisation of an European King sized bed, he has quoted me a pricing of $1,100 only - sounds ridiculously cheap... not sure if the bed would go out of shape or give us problems along the way. But has anybody on Renotalk used Princebed mattresses before? Or bought one recently or had been using it for say 6 months to a year already? Thanks in advance
-
Both memory foam & lattex might be feeling hot if you are not sleeping in an airconditioned environment. And I'm wary of memory foam becox there are some patients who had a relapse of certain medical conditions e.g. lupus after they slept on mattresses of such a make. But it really depends on yourself. Mattresses are very subjective. Even the branded ones have their complaints.

Sengkang Bird Droppings On Aircon Compressor/Ledge Problem
edenstrauss replied to bubu's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi bubu, u will need to call both town council & HDB to ask for their help. Where aircon & their brackets are involved, it is under the HDB's purview, not town council's. Tell u what, why don't u call Mr Tay (PM me if u r interested) & u ask him if u could pay him extra & get his workers to clean it up for u? I'm not sure if he'll want to do it but he owns aircon servicing company with workers. The Town council & HDB has to do something about it... they cannot jux let the place be polluted with bird faeces as they're a health hazard! And if both parties don't do something about it, u might want to write to NEA, who will tell u that this is not under their jurisdiction & they will forward to TC. Then, u might want to show the MP for your constituency these photographs & that u were unable to engage any aircon people who would want to clean it. but say, do u have any idea if the bird droppings were "dropped" from the unit above yours or did the pigeons congregate on top of your aircon compressor & poo-poo on it? But from your photo, it seems to suggest that the bird droppings came from a higher floor; look at the walls flanking the side of your compressor - what do u see above ur aircon compressor (i.e. above windows). I know of some aunties who used boiling water to splash onto the pigeons who rested at their aircon. They stopped coming after that but it's against the law becox it's killer litter as it might scald others who are walking on the ground floor. And it's extremely cruel. I wouldn't encourage that. -
I just realised that I missed our comments in this thread requesting for my contractor's contacts becox the old RT system doesn't prompt us in the past. For anybody who wants to take a look at what my contractor had done for us (demolition & fabrication of walls), please visit my thread at the following link to view my feedback which is substantiated by photographs of the process for demolition & fabrication of 4" hollow block walls. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40463&st=0&p=634826&fromsearch=1entry634826 And please PM me instead if u would like my contractor's contacts.

If you are concerned over the noise & any possible air pollution, then, it is deemed unacceptable to you. But which direction are your living room/bedrooms windows facing? Main door's facing?

Where To Buy Sericite (brand) Toilet Bowl?
edenstrauss replied to edenstrauss's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Maclaire has glowing reports here on RT forum. Runs on Geberit flushing mechanism which is supposedly a very powerful system. But their Geberit isn't endorsed by the Geberit SEA pte ltd here in singapore so they might hv gotten their Geberit system from another country, like say, china since their WC is made there. It's supposed to be a premium brand but I have second thoughts becox the manufacturer which is based here in singapore, isn't impressive. Their sales man has the cheek to tell me off that he doesn't entertain small clients like us; told me to go to any of their authorised retailers. I also noticed that they don't seemed to be as popular as I thought becox many condos, especially the newly built ones, do not have maclaire WC installed in their toilets. Clayton: 2 of my friends had water splashing out of the toilet bowl onto their seat & floor when they flush. I'm not buying this brand altho I had neighbours who told me that their clayton wc is still doing well after 3 years. baron: I noticed that their ceramic seemed to crack of break easily. I'm also not considering this brand. Cotto: after "big business", must press down BOTH buttons (FULL flush) to get it flushed down. Otherwise, u will see debris in murky water in the WC. Urgh! Almost vomit while typing this becox I've jux eaten my dinner Rigel: many of my friends staying in the relatively newer flats in bedok complained of a back-flow issue years ago when they stayed there. can vomit... Not sure if they have improved but back flow probabbly meant that it might be a design issue??? Not sure. Lucia/ CP-UNO: Did u try visiting Lucky Khoon's showroom at joo chiat? Our contractor who built back walls for us told us to visit them becox his plumber gets sanitary wares from Lucky Khoon. Both Lucia & CP-Uno are their inhouse brands becox they imported these 2 brands direct from China. Not sure about their quality though... but we are considering these 2 brands since we are sharing the WC with a tenant in our home later on so no point getting too expensive brands. So long as the contents get flushed down clean, it will do And also, please try on by sitting on ALL toilet bowls. No point chosing one that's a good brand but u feel like u've got pointed bums becox it hurts sitting on the seats! I had that problem with some brands of toilet bowls, like my butts were being clipped with a sharp object Disclaimer: My reviews & feedback on different brands of WCs are shared based on my own experiences as a consumer while shopping for WCs. It is not my intention to bring down the reputations of any brands. Reader's discretion is therefore sought. Thank you for your kind understanding. -
Hi heynsl, I'm sorry but I do not understand what u meant by the "glare". Would u mind explaining? thanks. But I did notice that LED isn't as bright as the normal lighting. So no glaring issues if this is what u meant.

Kitchen Doors By Han Fong Aluminium Pte Ltd
edenstrauss replied to edenstrauss's topic in Kitchen & Bathroom
Hi everyone, I have a flood of PMs asking me if my kitchen doors are made of glass. It isn't. But made of PVC panels with code number MF23 and this tone of PVC is very popular with condominium projects. In fact, it is one of the most popular shades of colour. If it's made of glass, it'll cost alot more especially when it's tempered for safety reasons. If I had a chance to turn back the clock, I wouldn't want to install glass toilet doors. really regret it now that we are preparing to rent out our bedrooms to tenants Should have gone for this MF23 PVC panel. -

The mystic/ unity knot, also known as The Auspicious/ Endless Knot(shrivatsa): The mystic knot is one of my most favourite symbols. It is a classy symbol which has been highly adapted in the fashion industry. It is said to promote a strong & positive affinity with people - but I would like to add that it also depends on the person's attitude in life too! -

These photos of toma offerings were taken before Vesak Day. It so happened that I was at Sakya Tenphel Ling when one of the lama was putting the finishing touches to the toma offerings. Oops missed the major part of it when he was moulding out the intricacies. I think this tall stupa-like dough is used as a "base" for mounting on the beautifully crafted decorations. These are parts of it which had just been prepared & pending "installation" onto the "base" & isn't it beautiful? A pair of golden fish (matsya): The Treasure Vase (bumpa): -

This is another altar that has been set up in the open for this special ocassion. The Thangka (mural) and the statue in blue represents the Medicine Buddha and to statue on the Medicine Buddha's right is Tara; and to the left, The Jambala (Dzambhala). There are also very colourly stupa-like decorations which were being placed in front of the deities as offerings. They reminded me of colourful jewels because they are so intricately made by the lamas. I think they are known as toma offerings and the 8 auspicious symbols (http://www.buddhanet.net/e-learning/history/b8symbol.htm) in Buddhism are featured in the form of colourful intricacies which I would be uploading here in the next few clips for visual appreciation. They must be so difficult to make! And so so beautifully done! -

This another altar that has been temporarily set up for this special ocassion and I spotted many devotees queuing up to offer stalks of fresh flowers to the deity. The combination of colours make it look so rich & vibrant: The flowers offered to the deity is then distributed out to devotees for the purpose of a bath. A sort of cleansing ritual through bathing with flowers which were blessed by the deity. Volunteers helping with the packing of small bags of flowers mixed with perfumed water: -

Photograph of Venerable Khentrul Rinpoche and reincarnation of previous high lama Tashi Gyatso Rinpoche. He is currently one of the resident teacher at Sakya Tenphel Ling and takes care of the Centre. He does daily rituals and provides blessings & consultations, conducts Teachings, and performs Changchog for the deceased and other religious activities. Photographs showing Venerable Khentrul Rinpoche, blessing the devotees : The jar with a spout & peacock feathers is known as a Bhumpa, or Ritual Vase or Tibetan Buddhist Healing Water Vase. I think it contains ceremonial water or nectar and is commonly used during blessing sessions: Another snippet of a blessing session of an elderly devotee:
