  1. Hi folks, I've earlier on started a thread known as What Brand Of Wc (toilet Bowl)? as below: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38294&st=0&p=611083&fromsearch=1entry611083 However, I had decided to start off with another thread on this brand of toilet bowl (WC: water closet), namely CP-Uno which is currently an in-house brand of Lucky Khoon at Joo Chiat Place. I would like to find out if anybody has ever used this brand of WC? I was wondering if the flushing mechanism is powerful enough... If anybody has used this brand of WC before, I would greatly appreciate it if reviews & feedbacks on this brand of WCs could be given. Thank you in advance!
  2. whoa, I didn't know that he's already a grandpa! It seems like many of the PRC nationals are young grandparents... very much the case like the elderly PRC nationals in our neighbourhood. Years ago, when such a trend wasn't that commonly sighted in our neighbourhood, I commented to an aunty (from China) that her baby looks really cute & well-fed. And it was embarassing when she grinned at me with a row of silver teeth & said that it's her granddaughter & she's babysitting for her daughter
  3. I'm not from the reno industry so my idea of a lamination is more of a piece of paper-like sheet which is really thin, unlike formica. During the time when we were scouting for a door supplier, I've been shown a book of laminates. My hubby used a pen-knife to cut off the laminates. And becox the ruler isn't long enough, he used an electrical trunking instead... but please make sure that you place newspapers or cardboard on the floor before cutting, otherwise, your tiles would be badly scratched. I'm not sure if you'll damage your door or cabinet when you remove the existing formica by force. The plywood might just tear off with splinters.
  4. Has anybody heard of this other brand (known as "CP-UNO") carried by Lucky Khoon at Joo Chiat? If I didn't recall wrongly, it is about $200+ including installation. If you have, please share your feedback & review on this brand... I'm in the midst of getting a new WC finally But still not sure if the flushing mechanism is strong enough. Both my hubby & myself liked the one piece LUCIA which came with a rectangular set of flushing buttons, which would cost above $300 including installation. If any of those parts spoil later on, we'll may have issues buying a generic replacement as the flushing buttons are normally round in hardware stores. And since the toilet flooring is already 16-18 years old, the new WC would have to go if the ceiling below our unit starts to leak... then need to buy another WC. hmmmmm...
  5. Hi gettome, I don't think Bensra is opting for lamination which is of course not encouraged through DIY.
  6. Hi tuasbird, U r most welcome! Wow your painting looks really magnificient. I reckon that the actual painting when viewed in person is going to be alot more impressive right? I would think that it's a good buy with great service from Mr Yang. I don't mean to be so critical about the level of service given by the other china shop running along the main road towards Tanjong Pagar Road. That one was also operated by PRC national owner who has a take it or leave it attitude. In Mr Yang's case, he is of a different "breed" & class of PRC nationals. He came across as cultured, polite & patient. I'm thinking about making another trip down to his shop & seeking his permission as to whether he would allow me to take a few photos of his shop front & some of his canvas pieces; and posting them on the RT forum. (Mr Yang wasn't in the shop when I dropped during the previous trip)
  7. Hi Bensra, u could get your formica from Jennings @ defu lane 10. Please take a look @ their contact details under this link: http://www.jennings.com.sg/contactus.php. Please note that they do not provide delivery of formica. Cash & collect from their shop. U could hop by the following shop in the opposite block to purchase kangaroo glue for pasting your formica: Lian Kim Yong Construction Pte Ltd 37 Defu Lane 10 #01-75 Singapore 539214 Telephone: 6-287-7467 Carpenters are professionals so they would have a special precision cutter for trimming the formica to the right sizes without fraying at the edges. It's quick & swift. When we DIY-ed, we run very sharp pen-knifes through the formica using anything sturdy that could serve as a ruler. As for the gluing aspects, you will have to apply the glue very sparingly with either a spatula or something that you could use to smear the glue on the reverse of the formica. Please do not mount the formica (with the glue applied) immediately. You've got to wait for a bit before mounting the formica onto the affected part of your cabinet otherwise, it might not cure properly & perhaps fall off. hope this helps!
  8. Hi, U can drop by Yi Mei Yuan on the 2nd floor of Lucky Chinatown to check out on the paintings for the golden version of the buddha painting. Kindly trace back the address as given in this same thread... They should have plenty of such paintings. The boss is a PRC national who is very well-mannered. best wishes!
  9. According to the new HDB ruling, once u sell off your HDB flat, you would be an owner of private property and not eligible to purchase a HDB flat. To seek confirmation on this, please check with HDB hotline becox the lawmakers would be able to provide u with the correct answer.
  10. Hi, thanks for highlighting the shop to me. Yes, I have infact gone to his shop but the PRC national boss has a nonchalant attitude. And his buddha paintings are I think, leftovers which were rolled over from previous batches as the nice ones were I believed, taken up by clients who dropped by alot earlier on. I have found another shop that specialises in canvas oil painting and the boss, Mr Yang, is alot more professional & sincere. His artistic buddha paintings which were classified as "large" costs about $100. Located on the 2nd floor at Lucky Chinatown. I'm supposed to drop by to take a look at a golden version which he told me had already arrived. I'll try to upload photos of some of his artpieces found in his store when I visited, with permission given by him of course...
  11. I think I will still get OptiLED's products becox most of the items come with a 3 year warranty. Meaning that if there is a bulb failure within that 3 years, with effect from the date of the receipt given at the point of purchase, the distributor will honour an implied agreement for a 1-to-1 exchange. I would perceive this as a transaction of great savings.
  12. U can call up the temple based on the number written in my earlier comments & look for 秋生 shifu. Please check with him directly on his charges. Whatever consultations & rituals performed aren't free. best wishes!
  13. It's true that Optiled's quality is good but we didn't get from the manufacturer directly as we're quite turned off by the lack of service. At least this was the case for us. A Mr Heng, supposedly the marketing or sales person for Optiled, seemed enthusiastic initially and told me to email him our requirements, and relevant photographs of our home for references. (They were located in Jurong whereas I was putting up in Pasir Ris; and do not drive.) After emailing, I didn't hear from this Heng guy. After a few days later, I called him & he told me to give him time to study our requirements; he then hung up. Well, he came across as disinterested after we emailed him photos of our home. So, fine. I waited again & as expected, we didn't hear from him. I called Optiled's office & received email informing me of a few authorised dealers. 2 of them told me that LED lights wouldn't work for us since we do not have false ceiling! And tried selling me other brands of lightings... When I finally got to buy OptiLED's bulbs from Julian at Citilights, I was bought over not jux by the product but by his ability to size up what would fulfill our requirements. All said & done in a matter of minutes after meeting up with Julian from Citilights. So for those of u who wants to buy from the manufacturer directly, please know what u r paying for.
  14. Hi huzc, plse share with me ur requirements & budget. U can PM me or post your comments here based on your preference. if u require an ID, I would like to make a personal recommendation : White Space Living. They might be pricey but at least, I dare to assure u that they work with a regular team of contractors & delivers quality workmanship. They aren't those fly-by-night renovator who ditch clients after $$ has been collected. I'm still waiting for chance to visit my uncle & friends who got their reno done up by White Space Living (for private prop reno, it's done up by Substance Living)... hoping to take some photos & upload on renotalk forum.
  15. Hi thomman, I'm sorry but I do not have any other contractors' contacts for cement related works except ah cheong.
  16. Hi thomman, I believed that I have dropped u a PM in response to your earlier request which had also been posted under this thread. However, I didn't hear from u subsequently. what's your budget for such an assignment? Even though Ah Cheong is a specialist in cement-related works but his fees do not come cheap. The reason being that he uses premium raw materials and have a professional team who delivers premium workmanship. So if you have a tight budget, then, ah cheong would not be suitable for your restoration works. If this information is relevant to you, I would like to share that I had the following done by ah cheong based on our site measurements: - hack wall to create new door entrance - supply & installation of door frame - install new wall (10 ft by 7 ft) And it cost us $2,000 and this pricing does not include a door for the new bedroom. It is relatively expensive if u compare his pricing to main contractors who do everything from tiling, plumbing to carpentry. However, we are ok with paying premiums for excellent workmanship & great service. We want all our reno works in our home to last for a long time. Kindly PM me directly if u r still interested in getting ah cheong to take up your restoration works. Good luck!
  17. Hi peter2K, ah cheong doesn't deal with carpentry & electrical becox he specialises only in cement related works.
  18. tempered glass - laminated glass doors can either be tempered or non-tempered. The danger about non-tempered is that when it breaks, the glass shards would fly off or shatter into many small pieces & drop onto the floor. Please check this link for more about tempered glass: http://www.answers.com/topic/tempered-glass As for the pricing, tempered glass doors are definitely more expensive.
  19. My toilet doors r "SAND-BLASTED" glass doors. They r very prone to stains & very difficult to maintain. If ur ID proposed LAMINATED glass doors, this might not be a concern if the quality is good. But if I have a choice, I would avoid glass doors even though they look very nice & expensive - glass, whether it's tempered or not, runs a high risk of breaking. Accidents do happen. It was in the chinese papers recently that glass which are supposedly tempered, had shattered into pieces in a newly renovated retail shop! And thank goodness that nobody was nearby when the incident took place!
  20. Hi hotchilli, yes u could go for a guanyin picture in lieu of a statue. But there are variations in religious practices over here in Singapore. So it really depends on your beliefs. The traditional type of picture comes in a frame and could be easily bought from rochor centre. U should be able to buy them off the shelves from the shops there. My granny owns such a picture of guandi & his 2 assistants; and it's indeed the traditional kind that u see in those taiwanese dramas. Hers had been enshrined as far back as the 1950s so it's really an antique. Some people paste pictures of buddhas at home to remind themselves of the essence of buddhism: being kind & compassionate & tolerant just like the buddhas. Devotees with such a motivation use those pictures as a form of inspiration to strive to attain buddhahood. So in such instances, having it enshrined or not, doesn't seem to matter any more. As for nimm12's idealogy, it is in my opinion to say that this is for those who doesn't require any visual aids to relate to the buddhas. Very few humans out there have attained such a level. All of us humans are generally influenced by senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch, etc... Hence, the need for a picture or statue.
  21. Hi tuasbird, thanks for the offer. You'll be the first I will PM if I really want to let go of this buddha canvas painting. But I'm still looking around for a golden version.
  22. U can contact the ebay seller directly. The name of his ebay shop is written down in the title for this thread - read carefully. but the quality that he carries right now is very different from these 2 canvas painting that I had uploaded in this thread.
  23. It's considered large size according to the ebay seller I bought it from. 32" by 39". canvas painting, not poster. I bought from that ebay seller at SGD $120... I'm looking around for its golden version... still cannot find yet. Do u mean to say that u find it "swee" meh? Aiya it's such a pity that the colour isn't our favourite gold otherwise, the painting techniques used should be good. Not those type with a tooth paste thick paint coating all over the canvas. P/S: my dad said that he had a fright when he saw this potrait becox it is huge & the impact of such a large face jux gave him a shock. for him, he finds that the eyes look fierce but for us, we felt that the eyes should be even fiercer leh...
  24. hi folks, This is the second potrait that I had no choice but to make this obligatory purchase since I ordered a golden version in a large size from that ebayer & rejected the artpieces becox of quality issues. The obligatory purchase is a grayish version of the buddha's potrait, seemingly done up by the artist who did the first potrait that I bought from this same ebayer. It was very difficult to capture the exact shade, which is a sandstone gray. And the expression too... I left the plastic wrappers on becox we are contemplating selling this piece off if we managed to buy a goldish version of it... which until today, still none of such luck yet. haiz...
  25. hi tuasbird, the shop that I was talking about which had buddha paintings or murals (buddha face made in copper & framed up in gold) is running along upper serangoon road. Name of the shop if TOP SPACE. but the strnage thing is that they used to have a website which had now been given up. the name card which the staff had given me doesn't have the complete address! gosh what sort of company does this make them? their tel number is 6-281-3269. I requested to take photos but the staff said that she has to ask the boss first so after calling up to speak to somebody, she said to visit facebook - meaning that no taking of photos... want to help them to advertise for free here in this thread then they dun want... not that it'll garner alot of sales leads but at least, with visual aids, it'll help alot more than writing it down in words.
