Hi bobo, I thought that your contractor is supposed to provide the corrugated paper & other stuff to protect your flooring during the reno? Which was how it was for us when our contractor conducted demolishing works & wall fabrication. Check the link below where our contractor's worker lay down the corrugated paper on the eve of the renovation: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40463&view=findpost&p=634851 u can buy corrugated paper & many other paper-related stuff, including wine boxes & coloured tracing paper (also known as tissue paper in European countries) from Favour International. I bought mine for covering my vanity drawers in preparation for relocation of electrical wiring & painting of the flat from this company's flagship store at Eunos. And a few wine boxes & coloured tracing paper for packaging bottles of wines. They have ongoing promotions for online shopping... haven't bought online before but since u require corrugated paper, u could buy from them. The quality is pretty good. Please visit their website at the following link: http://www.packeverything.com.sg/ best wishes to your reno!

ok thanks but it's likely that we will remove & install new inverters becox the existing old version is a non-inverter.

Hi Renmapiao, I've got a split unit Fujitsu aircon which is made in Japan & had been in use for more than 15 years. Non-energy saving. Model # : ASY9ANC - W recently, the blower units (I presumed that the blower units u r referring to is the plastic rectangular box that is installed in the rooms for aircon) had emitted very loud clanking noises when turned on. But if we replaced blower units, do u have any idea if new blower units would be compatible with our existing Fujitsu compressor?

Create Additional Room In The Living Room
edenstrauss replied to angie219's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi, Ah Cheong would normally return calls. Would u want to try calling again tomorrow? Thus far, he returns all our calls. I'm not sure if HDB's permit is required. U might want to call up your branch office to find out becox they will get the technical officer whose incharge of your block to advise you if it's required for partition wall. -

Create Additional Room In The Living Room
edenstrauss replied to angie219's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi, I had PM-ed Ah Cheong's contacts to you already. PLease check your mail box. I've checked with my hubby on partition board. His office rooms are mostly made of partition boards, which are also known as gypsum board (technical term). And he said that if the workmanship is good, the boards aren't wobbly. Not "weak" in the sense that the boards are shaky after installation. There are many metal strips at equal intervals inside the partition boards. U have to tell your contractor your requirements very clearly, including your intention to remove those boards eventually. Otherwise, you might risk having scars on your tiles after the partition boards had been removed. -
Hi swiper, it seems like many chinese likes flats or houses with main door facing South. Lucky you!

If you are very concerned over fengshui issues for your flat, I wouldn't recommend that u DIY such stuff on your own unless you are professionally trained to do so. Based on my own personal experience as a layman in fengshui, the outcome can be disastrous. Fengshui isn't a one-size-that-fits-all theory. And different masters have different fengshui practices. As such, I would highly recommend that you spend $$ to engage a professional to assist you in this matter. Take it as an investment for your personal well-being & attaining a peace of mind. best wishes to your new home!

Create Additional Room In The Living Room
edenstrauss replied to angie219's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi, if u r keen, I could PM you my wall-builder, Ah Cheong's contact number. My walls were built by him & he is by far, one of the best candidate you could consult. Very good workmanship & service so he charges a premium. So I'm not sure if you'll prefer a contractor who would provide you a cheaper quotation. Please take a look at my thread on the process of wall fabrication in my flat by Ah Cheong & his team of workers: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40463&st=0&p=634826&fromsearch=1entry634826 What you are referring to is probabbly gypsum board which is commonly known as partition board. You've got to be careful not to slam, knock or crash into such walls. Otherwise, there'll be cavities & dents. -
Hi folks, u're most welcome! I'm so glad that u guys are so understanding when I posted such objective, adverse feedback about this renovator. Kam-siah very much ("Kam-siah" refers to thank you in the hokkien dialect). But I do hope that ahhoesg's renovation goes on well. becox if things go wrong during the renovation, the owners are the ones who will suffer & face the consequences at the end of the day. and where possible, I'm hoping that ahhoesg could upload some photos to substantiate his feedback of Darwin's renovation for his flat. cheerios!

Fujioh (Wall-Mounted) Kitchen Hood - Is It Good?

Hi, thanks for sharing... hope to hear from u soon & sorry for the lengthy PM -
Hi, U might have to get your pair of deers customised. However, be prepared to pay because 2 moulds have to be created & used once jux to create a pair of deers wtih your specifications. If it works wonders for your fengshui requirements, then, it might jux be worth the investment. U can contact Ms Loh from metalworld (singapore) becox they customise sculptures in metal-related materials. please check out their website: http://www.metalworld.com.sg/products/products_sculptures.htm My uncle got his sculptures from them. Their quality is very good. We got our metal gates from them, designer style but workmanship was superb. best wishes!

how big do u want your jade ruyi to be? pendant size or for decorative purposes? and must it be made of jade? If "liu-li" or other materials are acceptable, I could refer u to a warehouse (wholesaler) & u could call up & ask the boss if they do have such an item. did u try sin chiew (with a life sized laughing buddha in front of the shop, which is next to the waterloo street's guanyin temple)? If it has to be made of jade, I could refer u to a shop at Toa Payoh which specialises in jade products. They should be able to customise for u or they might have ready made ones depending on the size u require.

Hi in the near future, u could contact sanyo directly (check yahoo search engine for the contact number) to get them to service your aircons. I'm sure they will know how to deal with their own products... thanks for sharing your experience with i-cool.
-
Hi, what brand does your air-con come under? Even if the warranty period is over, it's advisable that u contact the authorised distributor to request for servicing. they would charge accordingly since the warranty period has already lapse. e.g. Sanyo Singapore has its own repair team who does serviing for Sanyo aircon. And if the distributor doesn't have any repairing services, they would direct clients to the respective repair firm they've outsourced to. e.g. Fujitsu's repair team is Winfinity if I've not mistaken.

Choosing Altar Position For New Home
edenstrauss replied to listerine28's topic in Geomancy/Fengshui
best wishes! -
Hi folks, I've finally settled down on a POTEX toilet bowl from Lucky Khoon. The design is errrr, very old-fashioned but the seating area is the most comfortable as it's large enough to accomodate those who are bottom-heavy. And should the toilet seat crack, we could easily get it replaced with cheap versions... no point getting expensive stuff when there are tenants around. We were almost going to purchase the one-piece Lucia with rectangular buttons but held back becox the buttons couldn't be found in hardware shops easily. And the rectangular buttons & flushing mechanism comes in a set at a price of almost $60 should replacement be required. The toilet bowl for Lucia models are also alot narrower unlike POTEX. Wish me luck when the installer comes by to install the WC for us this week Will upload photos of the process. hopefully the POTEX WC is in good condition, not one that's deformed or had hairline cracks now that POTEX Singapore has already liquidated.

Choosing Altar Position For New Home
edenstrauss replied to listerine28's topic in Geomancy/Fengshui
Hi, I supposed by now u have already selected the location for your altar. However I would like to share that when we first bought our matrimonial flat 11 years ago, the altar position had been advised by the installer for our wall-mounted fibre-glass altar. There are many beliefs out there as to where the altar should be facing. We didn't even look at the direction & only realised recently that our altar is facing the NW direction & looking out of a row of windows that's more than 10 feet away from the altar. Please make sure that your altar is placed against a solid wall, not those partition board wall which are hollow or meant for decorative purposes. -

Fujioh (Wall-Mounted) Kitchen Hood - Is It Good?
edenstrauss replied to edenstrauss's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hey thanks for mentioning this to me Yes it'll certainly be very helpful of you if you could share with us if Fujioh's kitchen Hood are as good as what's said about them. Would your wall-mounted kitchen hood by any chance be FX900 ? I reckon that they are installed through your ID; we've got to figure out where to buy from becox Lucky Khoon at Joo Chiat does not have installers as they only have inhouse plumbers. Thanks in advance! -
Hi folks, I forgot to update how the OptiLED 2-watt "ping-pong" bulb looks like. Here comes the photos... Since it's a fengshui requirement for the area to be lighted up 24 by 7, this is how it looks like after we mount it on an E27 holder. We would have preferred to have an E27 holder without the "saucer" casting a shadow over the lighting from the "ping-pong" bulb, we had to settle for it becox we weren't able to obtain a substitute for this conventional holder. And true to what Julian from Citilights have advised during our purchase, we didn't see any significant increase in our PUB bills! That's even after the light was installed & turned on for 24 hours a day without turning it off. That was really awesome! p/s: we'll try to upload a photo of how the lighting effect for this OptiLED 2-watt bulb is like after we have painted our flat.

I'm not sure if there's an element of luck involved when it comes to toilet bowls. My uncle's Ottos are regrettably lousy & annoying - they don't flush well at all. He even tried putting a bottle of mineral water inside to increase the "strength" of flushing but apparently, it still didn't work. The waste didn't get flushed out even with a full flush. He had to use a huge bucket of water to flush down the waste. My parents are using Saniton, which had been assigned to them by HDB and they had been changing the internal parts very frequently. This year was the 3rd replacement of parts - which to me, is absolutely ridiculous becox their WC is only 6 years old! Our old-fashioned potex in the MBR is still looking great even though it is 18 years old & we have only replaced the flushing mechanism once... *sigh* nowadays, it seems like things don't last. I was told that Johnson Suisse is very popular in M'sia. But nowadays, newly-built private condos rarely use Johnson Suisse which used to be popular in the past.
-
Hi, thank you so much for your advice. It is true that CP-Uno is from China but we're worried about how strong the flushing mechanism is. And whether the model is prone to chokes or not. My uncle has 5 Ottos in his bungalows, which he claimed sucks big time becox he needs to fill up a huge bucket of water & flush down the contents in the toilet bowl - Urgh! Actually, my hubby & myself liked another inhouse brand by Lucky Khoon, which is known as Lucia. But the flushing buttons were rectangular in shape, meaning that replacement might jux be a problem if Lucky Khoon discontinues selling its parts. The generic versions are all round-shaped. And since we're sharing our WC with a tenant, we felt that we should jux go for something reasonably priced with relatively good flushing mechanism. We won't consider Geberit systems. It's pointless when we've got tenants at home.
