The Sound Of Music: Nature's Beauty @ Pasir Ris Park
edenstrauss replied to edenstrauss's topic in Hobbies and Sports
Spotted Doves While we were walking home, we spotted a pair of Spotted Doves (Scientific name: Streptopelia chinensis / 珠颈斑鸠) perching on the fence (of a wafer fab factory). My hubby whose a bird lover couldn't resist the temptation to capture a few photographs of them & I've captioned these photographs to (hopefully) make them more interesting... BIRDS: The Oriental Pied Hornbill We were surprised when an Oriental Pied Hornbill (Scientific name: Anthracoceros albirostris / 冠斑犀鸟) came into view! The photograph doesn't have the ideal resolution as we were pretty eager to capture it before it discovered our presence. It was a shy creature which was at perfect ease until we crept closer towards the tree it was perching at. The hornbill got abit wary & this could be illustrated in the next 2 photographs. For more information & details about the birds of Singapore, please visit swapsungeibuloh blog at the following link: http://swapsungeibuloh.wikispaces.com/Oriental+Pied+Hornbill I assure you that the nature lovers wouldn't be disappointed after visiting the comprehensive website! In fact, both my hubby & myself had been very happy & thankful with the creators of the website as it was almost an encyclopedia of the birds of Singapore. The amount of work involved in creating such a website was gargantuan - sorry schiz0id for pinching the word from your T-blog on your home renovation. And here is a professionally taken photograph of a cute-looking (male) Oriental Pied Hornbill by Mr Paul Huang: Disclaimer: Please note that I do not own any of the photographs of the Oriental Pied Hornbill featured here in this thread. As such, please give the credits of the photograph to the Mr Paul Huang of http://www.naturestops.com.'>http://www.naturestops.com. I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Mr Paul Huang of http://www.naturestops.com for granting his kind permission in allowing me to use his beautiful photographs in this forum. It had certainly made an eye-opening difference to a nature lover like myself! [Postscript: However, my photographs stood out like a sore thumb as compared to his professionally taken photographs. Mine looks simply... amateurish. ] -
I finally found the name of the birds that visited my plants every single day without fail They are known as Olive-backed Sunbirds (scientific name: Nectarinia jugularis) / 黄腹花蜜鸟. (copyright Paul Huang, http://www.naturestops.com) For more information & details about the bird, kindly visit the following website: http://swapsungeibuloh.wikispaces.com/Olive-backed+Sunbird'>http://swapsungeibuloh.wikispaces.com/Olive-backed+Sunbird This video clip features a female Olive-backed sunbird returning to her nest after a hard day of flying around. However, it's a pity that the bird in the clip doesn't call out at all. Isn't the birdie cute when she peeps out from her nest? Disclaimer: Please note that I do not own any of the photographs & videos of the Olive-backed Sunbirds featured here on this thread. As such, please give the credits of the photographs & videos of the birds to the relevant contributors. I wish to thank Mr Paul Huang of http://www.naturestops.com for granting his kind permission in allowing me to use his beautiful photographs in this forum. It had certainly made an eye-opening difference to a nature lover like myself! I would also like to thank the creator/s of http://swapsungeibuloh.wikispaces.com & smalleyes68 (owner of the You-tube video)for their comprehensive write-ups of the birds of Singapore & the video clip featuring an olive-backed sunbird respectively on the internet.

Hi buddy Itx better to hv ur pipings exposed to minimise maintenance issues in the near future. Although concealed pipings & wirings look neat & nice, it can be a real headache when repairs r required. I was told that owners of newly built flats need 2 buy a $200 special report to map out where pipes were being concealed & pass it on 2 their plumbers ... As such, I still prefer pipings & wirings 2 b exposed.

We came across another chestnut coloured horse in the ring. The horse was lazing around, flipping its tail to ward off flying insects, and probabbly nodding off to sleep soon... -

Hi pls tell me ur requirements briefly. I seek ur kind understanding that if there isn't a match b/w ur requirements & that of his expertise then his number will b irrelevant.. Poor man is so busy until he doesn't hv enough sleep & rest already. So I m referring assignments which r relevant 2 him only.

Hi dcs, Definition of volume & pitch of voices r very subjective. There r ppl who are in fact shouting @ the top of their voices when they speak. we had neighbrs like that & itx really unfortunate.. In our family, we r a quiet lot who speaks at a relatively low volume as compared to some rowdy neighbours.. If u r concerned over the soundproofing for the prospective unit, I would highly recommend that u look elsewhere. There r many flats up for selling so don't select this one.

ALL prefabrication flats, including newly constructed flats used hollow blocks for interior walls & red brick walls on the exterior. However, those hollow block walls constructed by HDB are definitely filled with cement. As such, there shouldn't be such privacy issues involved. However, if your walls are fabricated using hollow blocks WITHOUT soundproofing materials used, then, yes, sounds can be heard in between rooms - but in our case, we could hear mobile phones ringing from the other room. TV & radios could only be heard when the volume gets turned up. But when either one of us talk in either of the room at a low volume, cannot be heard in the other. For your information, we are staying in flats, not bungalows or "kumpongs" so when the occupants talk really loudly, even neighbours whose units are located near one another would get to hear of the contents of their conversation. And say if a person talk in the bedroom with its door closed, and people loitering outside (the bedroom) could hear him/her talking. But if I were in your shoes, I wouldn't buy such a flat unless I'm tearing down the entire place & getting it fully renovated. Even if I were doing so, I would tell my renovator that I would like to have soundproof walls. For our current flat, we aren't putting up in it permanently as we'll be shifting in the near future. So no point spending so much $$ on putting back the new wall.

Tenant Doing Things When Am Not Around

The CCTV is more of a deterrent. Anybody whose up to no good would think twice or even thrice before doing anything drastic -
So is your door installation finally completed by Decorille? I still cannot understand why u didn't get ur renovation contractor to do up those doors & had to go to a 3rd party vendor. Did u take any photographs to illustrate how bad the workmanship is? Who is the sales rep who clinched your deal & who is the installer? I've got neighbours who told me that they engaged Decorille for their newly renovated homes & there were no such issues. They claimed that their transaction was a breeze. If they cannot deliver their services to your satisfaction, you might want to forgo your deposit & look elsewhere. No point wasting time & energy over such problems. Perhaps u might want to get your contractor to supply & install those doors in your home.

R u guys installing any false ceiling? Is tiling for the entire flat completed?
-
I wish that my flat is that huge too! It's always nice to stay in a large place where it's airy with lotx of space. But the down-side is that u've got to spend more time for cleaning up.

Wow I love ur flat It looks huge!!!!

So long as neighbours don't complain & Town Council's officer don't get to see it there, it's ok. Otherwise, they would still ask u to bring it down. In your case, if you were to install the CCTV on the exterior, would the lens be able to capture your neighbour's doorway? No right? If it doesn't, then by all means install it.
