  1. The symbolic series : 9 carps in a pond ... Another painting of symbolic nature is this version that shows 9 carps swimming in a pool of lotus flower. Such paintings are pretty popular among the Chinese & for those who believes in using pictures for fengshui purposes. It's definitely an auspicious painting!
  2. The symbolic series : Horses galloping across the field ... This canvas painting depicts 9 horses running happily across the green pasture and is good for it to be placed such that the horses were running through the window - that's if u could comprehend this from the fengshui's perspective. Although the painting is symbolic by nature where 8 horses were running into the home through the window (or say, door), the style is too "flat" for my taste becox I prefer canvas painting that has a 3D (3-dimensional) feel to it. However, it's still a good buy if it matches a home's fengshui requirements.
  3. While I was walking around in the art gallery, I stumbled upon a beautiful canvas painting of artistic nature which in my opinion, would be suitable appropriate for private boudoirs, spas or beauty palors. I've taken a snapshot of this painting, depicting a courtesan or royal concubine of the Tang dynastic era. It isn't sleazy by nature & would be well-appreciated from the artistic perspective. After editing the painting, I've decided to seek the approval of the forum's management prior to launching it on this thread. However, I haven't heard from admin so I sized up that the message meant a NO. As such, I've colour-blocked a section of it in white. Please take a look @ this beautiful painting:
  4. A duo of Ballerinas ... When I first set my eyes on this elegant painting, I am immediately reminded of the ballerinas in the Natalie Portman's movie, The Black Swan. I tried to capture the beauty of the canvas painting at different angles, including photoshooting right in front of it. However, the ceiling lights right on top made it impossible. As such, the photograph had to be taken at an angle - sorry about that.
  5. I've set my sights on a couple of mini-paintings but am trying to figure out where I should be hanging them as I'm staying in a flat. How I wished that I've got more walls for hanging paintings. This is a painting of lotus on canvas which are wrapped in gold foil. Alright folks, this one doesn't look as impressive. Some of you might just feel that it's "obiang" or quite bollywood style when it comes to the colour combination. However, the real thing is alot more beautiful as compared to the photograph which unfortunately, gave the canvas painting a very "flat" 2D tone, and not the 3D feeling that you get when u look at it in person. The background had been covered with gold foil by the artist prior to painting it with lotus motifs. And the gold dust doesn't show up in the photograph.
  6. Lotus on canvas ... This lotus-motif canvas painting is done in a what I would call, the "Vincent van Gough" style. But I'm commenting on this as a layman. Hence, My humble apologies for my ignorance if there are any artisans or experts reviewing this thread.
  7. The gold undertone had been greatly exaggerated in terms of its colour saturation when I've taken the photograph with flashlights: I just love love love this set of artwork which came in 4 panels but... no place for hanging it. *sigh* Would just have to give it a miss.
  8. The photograph is my attempt to try to show a close-up of the surface of the art piece. However, it's a pity that the peonies didn't look glossy & as vibrant as the actual art work.
  9. Let's take a look at some of the artwork found in his art gallery. Peonies painted on "gold foil" ... This is a signature piece which had been one of my favourites but I simply couldn't find a section of the wall at home to accomodate this beautiful artwork of Peonies painted on canvas that is covered with gold foil... In view of the limitations from my camera & the less than ideal lighting effects in the art gallery for photography, the photographs didn't do the real painting absolute justice! The real stuff looks beautiful & definitely a piece of artwork from my perspective as a person whose still learning to appreciate art. It would have brought so much beauty & elegance to any home. It reminded me of posh chinese restaurants & the hotel lobbies - I wished I had a private lobby myself too! Photograph taken without flashlights from camera:
  10. This is a photograph of his Art Gallery. The glass door through the exit opens at the left hand side of the photograph as you could see from the glass reflection (of somebody's hand opening the door).
  11. And I've been wanting to do a write-up on 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery for a very long time but my hands were just too full, exploding with both work & domestic commitments, including DIY-ing stuff for our existing (old) flat. I'm supposed to get a gold framing for my existing buddha portrait but I just didn't have the time to make my way down until a couple of days ago. (I would be uploading my portrait with the gold framing once it's completed.) The owner, 杨峰 (Mr Yong) whose a very young-looking grandpa of China descent, had granted me the permission to take photographs of the canvas paintings displayed in his art gallery. He is also a very patient & cultured person whose pretty soft-spoken. And definitely nothing like the other China owner (competitor) facing Tanjong Pagar Road, whose crude & unhelpful unless we have bought any paintings from them! So for those of you whose considering canvas painting that's reasonably priced with good workmanship, please do give 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery your valuable support!
  12. I've first mentioned about this 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery under my thread on artistic buddha potraits at the following link: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41129&view=findpost&p=646659 Hey folks, wait a minute... Please continue to read on even at the first mention of the word "Art Gallery" in my opening statement in this thread. Many Singaporeans, including myself & our relatives would typically start shrinking under our skin when we hear the word "Art" matched against the other big word "GALLERY". Reason is simple: Art Galleries seems to be closely associated with another word "Expensive". However, I was pleasantly surprised that Mr Yong's art pieces are definitely affordable & not expensive based on the workmanship. I expected the price to be steep in view of the high rental cost & overheads. Afterall, Lucky Chinatown is owned by Far East Organisation so the rental cost wouldn't be cheap. Just take a look at the chinese wordings in red that were pasted onto the glass panel of his art gallery - It meant something along the lines that say "value for money". (Oops, just realised that I forgot to include their contact numbers after doing up this thread... tel: 6-225-2961 / Mr Yong @ 9052-9556 ) And not forgetting the great service too! My brother inlaw bought a huge portrait associated with a chinese deity & during the installation which was thrown in free when he bought the painting from 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery, he changed his mind not once, but thrice about where he wanted to hang the picture. Successive drilling was done on his living room's wall & changes were made. But the installer said nothing & was very patient with him. (I'm unable to take a photograph of the painting he bought becox he claimed that it has already been enshrined but I haven't heard of such practices on canvas painting! Oh well...)
  13. Disclaimer: Permission has been sought from 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery for their canvas paintings to be featured in this thread. Kindly note that this thread is strictly for the purpose of sharing my humble & objective views of artwork and services provided by the aforesaid company. And is definitely not an advertising platform. I am not affliated to this company and am an existing client who bought a couple of lotus-motif canvas paintings for decorating my existing home. Reader's discretion is therefore sought when viewing this thread. For the ease of locating & visiting the art gallery, the photographs had been ear-marked with the address. All the photographs featuring 艺美苑 (Yi Mei Yuan) art gallery's canvas paintings had also been water-marked in view of copyright issues pertaining to the company's artwork. (I would not want to be implicated in any copyright issues should such photographs be abused by other users!) Thank you for your kind understanding.
  14. U could try Kangaroo glue which could be bought from Lian Kim Yong Construction located @ defu lane. If u have epoxy glue, u might want to give it a try becox it's supposed to have very strong adhesion.
  15. Over-fertilising my plants *SOB* Hi guys, I was overcome by a strong sense of greed. Even after the plants were blooming so beautifully. A silly idea strike me & I thought that since the plants had been flowering so vigorously, I should be replenishing their vitamins by fertilising. However, I was so greedy that I tripled the dose of fertiliser. Instead of the usual 10-15 drops of fertiliser diluted in 1 litre of water, I've decided to pour in 30 over drops... The outcome was a disaster! By the time I came back in the evening, I was shocked to notice that the over-fertilising had burnt off the anatomy of my poor plants! The photograph below shows evidence of over-fertilising of my plants. I have to stop feeding them any fertiliser for a long time from now... But hopefully their condition would stabilise & they wouldn't die on me.
  16. Photographs of Day 3 (of the repotting) - still going strong in flower-power with many new blooms
  17. Hi, u flatter me... the ones found @ chinatown cost a huge bomb! It seems that they cater more to tourists because every single thing has a steep price tag. R u interested in canvas painting? I'm doing up a new thread on a small art gallery @ Lucky Chinatown (known as Yi Mei Yuan). They've got some canvas painting which are of great quality becox they had that 3D effect, meaning that we look @ the painting, it didn't look "flat" like a 2D. It seems like I'm ready to walk into the painting. Even with the great service (both before sales & after sales) & good workmanship, it's a pity that many people didn't know about this gallery. The worse part is that the location is such that they aren't getting the right crowd of people to visit. I'm getting a gold framing for my buddha painting from the shop & also buying a couple of lotus painting... in gold tone but still trying to figure out where to hang them becox I haven't that many walls for pictures in my flat.
  18. I saw such pieces being sold at chinatown; quite a number of shops r carrying it. There is both left & right orientation too. Some of which came in black face accented in gold.. It is magnificent.. Where did u get yours from or r u supplying such artworks?
  19. U r most welcome! Let me know if U are unable to get in touch with him. Most contractors are flooded with work towards the end of the year all the way till the eve of CNY. Many suffer from the lack of sleep & rest in a bid to complete many on-going renovations. As such, it's common practice for contractors to boycott incoming calls.
  20. Hi Shawn, Quotation is based on many factors such as structural measurements which would definitely vary from site to site, types of raw materials used, including complications e.g. relocation of trunkings & wirings where applicable, etc etc. I wouldn't be able to advise you on the pricing becox I'm not affliated to my contractor & am just a client of his. As such, please check with Ah Cheong directly. I've messaged his contact number to your renotalk mailbox so please check in to obtain his details. He would have to make a visit to your place to assess your requirements on-site, take measurements & provide you with the quotation on another day. I need to highlight to you that Ah Cheong charges a premium rate as compared to the contractors out there becox of his good workmanship & service. My $2k+ doesn't include bedroom door.
  21. Hi, Which company did you purchase your doors from? It's highly recommended that purchases are made through reliable & reputable sources. Sanding off the crack & applying a layer of vanish could minimise the appearance of the "scar" arising from the cracks. However, the problem cannot be cured because a crack is a crack; it's different from a scratch which could be lightly buffed off with sandpaper & varnishing it with selac. Are your doors facing the afternoon sun or exposed directly under the sun? Cracking up in a matter of just 6 months upon installation is deem to be unacceptable from my perspective as a customer. In our case, our new nyatoh bedroom door is facing the west & gets hit by the afternoon sunlight which filters through the windows that were located directly opposite (this bedroom door). However, our nyatoh doors are still looking nice & good. Thus far, no cracks are detected yet. The only difference is that it looks more natural now that the selac had already sunken into the nyatoh wood. The door still looks glossy & pretty. If u r interested, please take a look at our bedroom door at the link below: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40652&view=findpost&p=641303
  22. In fact, we were very surprised to see blooming in progress during the night after repotting in the morning. It is also a sure sign that the plants love their new homes now that they were being migrated into a larger flower pot. We had been repeatedly greeted by the sharp chirpings of the plants' happy "beneficiaries" throughout the day, except when there's a heavy downpour. The olive-backed sunbirds were feverish with excitement at the sight of plenty bird food (i.e. flower nectar) and there's indeed plenty to go around. There were fully bloomed buds & those that were still in transit when the flower bud-to-be had been pushed out of the red "scales" on the red "corn". And it's high on the "yummy" factor becox they do look like red candies!
  23. Outcome of repotting Hi guys, I'm so sorry for the repetition of photographs in this section. However, it's a pity if I do not share these pics because the outcome of the repotting for these "Ginger" plants are best encapsulated in them (photographs). Please bear with these repetitions but I didn't know which photograph to select so I had decided to launch all of them. This is how my plant is faring on Day 2 of the repotting... The outcome was wonderful & it was a magnificent sight to behold when we were greeted by such a huge surprise in the morning: the plants were blooming just 1 day after the repotting!
  24. Ulam Raja / Pelampong (Scientific Name : Cosmos caudatus Kunth) When we visited the Pasir Ris Park recently, we spotted another breed of cosmos flower growing amongst the Orange Cosmos. This version of the Cosmos flower is in ombre pink (meaning that there's is a graduation of white to pink on its petals). Not unlike its orange counterpart, the pink cosmos flower attracts both butterflies & bees as shown in the photograph below: Based on National Park's Flora & Fuana Web, this breed of flower's scientific name is known as the Cosmos caudatus Kunth. It is also commonly known as Ulam Raja or Pelampong and its leaves were known to be of medicinal value e.g. it is used to increase blood circulation in traditional medicine in the South East Asia. Its leaves were also consumed as a vegetable in Malay cuisine. For more information about the plant, please visit National Park's Flora & Fauna Web at the following link: http://florafaunaweb.nparks.gov.sg/
