  1. Although my plants do have freshly bloomed flower buds which are "harvested" by the olive-backed sunbirds within a day of its appearance, it is sad to notice that the green leaves were infested with fungal spots as shown clearly in the photograph attached below: Those yellow fungal spots were akin to skin diseases for plants & aren't curable. A strong & effective fungicide would have to be applied thinly on the leaves regularly to control the fungal condition.
  2. It took me quite a while to figure out which editing tool I should be going for after the demise of the Picnik. And with my busy work schedule, it was tough to upload photographs as they could be pretty time consuming when editing is involved. Finally, I settled down on Picasu & am still fiddling with the software on my desktop. And I hope it doesn't introduce any bugs into my computer. I'll be uploading more when I have the time to edit more photographs.
  3. After repeated attempts to till the soil & pruning away many "dead" stalks of the "ginger" plants, I observed that there were improvements even though the plants aren't as healthy & lush in its growth as compared to the past. These are some of the recent collection of its blooms for the past 1 month:
  4. These are some photographs of the hateful Symphylans. Don't they look like white centipedes with many legs & a pair of fillers on top of their heads? Disclaimer: I do not own any of these photographs of the symphylans which are posted as above. Kindly give the credits of these photographs to the its owners. Thank you.
  5. Hi folks, I've been battling against all odds & fighting plant diseases after the use of the organic worm tea. It was a challenging feat & apart from fighting against the yellowing of the leaves & fungus in the form of yellow-spots all over the green leaves, we were shocked to see that white centipedes had invaded the soil! After googling up some information of the white "centipede", I would like to take this opportunity to share in this forum that those were not beneficial centipedes or garden centipedes that feast on organic matter. They were infact pests that are out to harm the plants & are known as Symphylans. I read through extensive reports on this pest & methods for eradicating this creature but apparently, there aren't any cures for it where chemicals are concerned. They take over the tunnels created by earth worms & occupy them. And their behavioural patterns are such that they do not come up to the surface & would only barrow in soil that are hard in structure. As such, the only recourse is to partially reduce its population by digging into the soil & destroying their tunnels below the soil. The terminology used by gardeners for an attempt to exterminate them is known as tillage. Meaning that we had to till the soil in loosening up the soil. Once the soil is sandy & easily permeable with water, these symphylans would just die off. However, even with the most effective method being tilling the soil, this wouldn't cure the problem completely as it would only assist in reducing the population of these pests in the soil. One of the rules for preventing symphylans is to have good cultivation habits, which includes not over using organic matters in fertilising. Reason being that when the organic matters rot, they introduce bad bacteria which inturn invites such undesirable pests such as Symphylans to your plants. These pests would chew & eat up all the roots & the poor ginger plants would start to weaken & be unable to absorb any nutrients from the soil. And in severe cases, the plants would die off due to the lacking in nutrients when it's roots are being eaten up by these pests! 6. Hi, Do u want to try contacting this Mr Yong whose the owner at the following numbers? However, I'm not sure if the local numbers are already given up. I have them on his name card. If u are really keen, you could try out these numbers. singapore-based tel: 6-225-2961 / 90529556 china-based mobile number : 86-13679349689
  7. Not sure what to make out of your drawings but why don't u consider having a uniform false ceiling for your bedrooms? U can have downlights embedded inside the false flat ceiling too. and your room's ceiling wouldn't look truncated. U have to exercise caution when implementing ceiling designs for your rooms if they already look small. I am intending to install false ceiling & cove lights for my living & dining rooms but had been told that cove lights are a thing of the past as the current trend in interior designing is to have it as plain & simple as possible. The uniform false ceiling with downlights is a classical design that will never go out of fashion. best wishes!
  8. Hi, I am in the midst of installing false ceiling but in the absence of an ID & lighting knowledge, I am feeling lost as to where to start off in shopping for my downlights & decorative centrepiece for my living & dining rooms. Would any of you guys have any idea on the following issues that I am currently feeling boggled over? a) does the branding of downlights matter? The price range are so varied that some came as cheaply priced as below $10 and the LED versions that run up to more than $50 per piece. b) any aesthetic differences to downlights which are round-shaped or square-shaped? c) are the ergonomics of all downlights the same? Meaning that when the downlights require replacement, do we replace the bulb or do we have to replace the entire fixture that's embedded into the false ceiling? What is recommended by users? We wanted something that's fuss free. (Optiled's version of 16 watts downlights require a replacement of the entire fixture when the bulbs are blown out, meaning that the entire downlight has to be dismantled from the false ceiling.) d) which are the reputable lighting shops with good service that I should be visiting here in Singapore? Shops in JB are not feasible for us so we are only considering lighting stores in Singapore. e) I would also require decorative lights which would become the centrepiece of my living room. In fact I require 2 sets, one of which would be placed in the centre of the ceiling in my dining room. Does anybody have any idea where I could visit for reasonably priced crystal lights or modern looking ones? I visited a couple of lights shop along Jalan Besar road but the price seems too steep for our pockets as the crystal lights range from $700 to $1,400-$2,500. Thanks in advance for any contributions to this thread!
  9. Hi Kris, Kindly advise nature of your renovation assignment. Ah cheong is selective on his assignments eg he doesn't deal with grouting issues & wall touch ups.
  10. Hi, I love your false ceiling. Did u get the centerpiece on your own? It has such a breathtaking skylight effect. Absolutely beautiful & adheres to the precepts of good fengshui. Would you be able to pass on your false ceiling contractor's number to me? I would like to get false ceiling done for my home & had difficulties getting any reputable id firm whose willing to take on this solo assignment. Were the lightings - cove lights, provided by your false ceiling contractor? Hope to hear from u. Thanks
  11. If u know how to drill & install, it's pretty straight forward for a slimline cooker hood.
  12. Yes there were pretty good reviews of them in the past but haven't heard much about their recent installations.
  13. Hi folks, thank u so much for advising me Really appreciate this. But I got really paranoid after the botched job done by the installer for my Electrolux hood & after reading all sorts of installation complaints coming from aircons.
  14. Hi, Has anybody out there on renotalk forum engaged TWIN CITY for installation of aircons at home? They use Thermalflex insulation, not the commonly used Armaflex. I'm really not sure if there are any quality differences between the 2 brands as a layman in aircon. If you have ever engaged TWIN CITY AIRCON, please share with me over this thread or PM your feedback to me directly. thanks in advance.
  15. No u shouldn't complain to HDb becox landed properties aren't under the purview of HDb. Did u try calling bca?
  16. Does anybody have any idea if there is a difference between these 2 brands of aircon insulation? Which is better?
  17. I m so sorry to hear about what happened to u & can empathize with what you r going through now. Any photos to share on those damages that your contractor had caused to your home? Sounds really bad but is your contractor under radac? Of yes, you could report him to radac & see how they could assist you. It's absolutely crazy that the renovator is asking for $ when he damaged your interior!
  18. Hi please check your mailbox as i hv already pm u her contact details. Best wishes
  19. Hi folks, I would be closing off this topic on worm tea becox it didn't work out for my plants as the yellow spots on the leaves multiplied & eventually turned yellow much to my alarm. The photograph below shows green foilage turning patchy yellow after the progressive use of the worm tea. Some of the stems turned yellowy too... For the plants which i had fed them with worm tea in the community nursery, they were even unluckier becox it killed them off completely. Like what I went through with my ginger plants, The leaves were being attacked first by yellow spots, turned yellow & withered off eventually. We didn't think that it was overwatering becox we had overwatered for the first year of acquiring these potted plants but never experienced such a problem before. I m of the opinion that these symptoms seemed consistent with the use of worm tea becox their counterparts without worm tea but jux on water were doing really well under the full sun. We have tried out the worm tea on my inlaw's plants & they had the same issues too... As such, we wouldn't be so adventurous in the near future when trying out stuff on our darling plants. We are feeling the huge loss & pain with the impending demise of our plants
  20. Yet another 2 photographs of a spotless yellow ladybird at our "Ginger" plant... It was quite a challenge trying to take a snippet of it close-up becox the location it was at was almost out of reach. The spotless yellow ladybird was camera-shy & was crawling towards a hiding place where it could not be easily seen...

  22. Well it's a very ungentlemanly move to take advantage of that remark of mine to make more noise right? Anyways, thanks for contributing your share here in this thread.
  23. If u have such negative thoughts pertaining to adverse feedbacks posted here, then u r in the wrong crowd since you have such fault finding mentality. U r beyond reasoning becox u don't even take the time to read up what's going on. I have already written in my earlier threads that I would be starting such a thread even before I chose Electrolux. It seems like you are mirroring your exact thoughts that you would use the forums as a tool for solving your problems here, and in this case, renovation related matters. If u think that I m posting the thread to get back at Electrolux or Harvey Norman, I would assure u that we are definitely not like minded becox I have proven records of posting the works of all the contractors who had done stuff for our home and that their assignments with us were happy ones for work well done! U r definitely picking up a fight with me again & this is for all on renotalk forum to judge for themselves. U can fight it out on your own should u see the desire to do so but please do so elsewhere!
