  1. Thanks all. Reckon will give up on the idea of pebblewash. Granite with textured surface are great for outdoor areas, except for car porch as any oil leaks will permanently stain the tiles. Heavy duty homogenous tiles sounds like the best option. Will probably go for running tone homogenous tiles. Do we need full body homogenous tiles? The newer homogenous tiles (also known as porcelain tiles) are usually not full body.
  2. i'm inclined towards siletsone, but the price is too exorbitant. the better brands of solid top and granite cost are comparable. for me, i'm likely to choose granite top. the shine on granite top is beautiful (of course proper care is required).
  3. Based on brandt 867 (15AMP), bosch hba43 (16AMP). brandt is pyrolytic bosch is catalytic
  4. better to post floor plan for a clearer picture. this way, fellow forumers will be able to give advises based on your situation.
  5. for cheap affordable option, can try hypermarkets like giant and carrefour. or for better quality albeit a higher price, try spotlight. all these outlets sell ready made full length curtains.
  6. i'm ditching the bath tub too. just too much trouble maintaining a tub when most of the time we bathe standing in the tub. furthermore, must be very careful when getting in and out of the tub.
  7. toyogo sells those plastic cubes that you can put your fridge or washing machine on it. it comes in a pack of 4. this is a cheap solution, though i'm not sure if it is suitable for all washing machines since some vibrates more than others.
  8. I've no knowledge on punggol primary school. maybe some parents here will give you a better insight.
  9. around that area, reckon Rosyth School falls under the classification of 名校. most properties launches around that area highlight Rosyth but no mention of Xin Min.
  10. you're referring to the pillar located at the store or the study room?
  11. yes, your friend is right. some contractors were trying to charge me as much as double the amount. luckily, i have already prempt it. did my calculations and even the number of tiles required. this concrete data helps during negotiation stage. based on this estimates, you can gauage how much your contractor is charging you based on psf. you will be surprised at the exorbitant figures. most of the workers doing the actual work are not locals. they are some foreign workers employed by the companies. how much do you think the bosses will pay them? how do you think these ID firms can justify the cost of keeping a nice office/showroom? there must be resources helping to pay for it, right?
  12. weigh your options, think of long term maintenance esp if you intend to stay there for a period of time. my understanding is that epoxy needs touching up every few years. this type of floor finish is usually used in factories. yes, it can be slippery. this is why there is a specification on the type of shoes to be worn in factory settings. i have to take off my high heels and change to the appropriate shoes when going around the production area. you can pre-calculate your floor and wall area. this information will be useful during negotiation with your contractor. most contractors will buffer a minimum 5-10% (some even a lot more) in their estimation when doing the pricing.
  13. remember to have the tile sealed, and waterproofing done before laying the tile.
  14. wood at bay windows is indeed a nice touch. but not advisable if your window has west sun. my experience with it is that the wood tend to 'age' very fast. in this case, solid surface would be more ideal.
  15. looking at your intended scope of work, likely to bust your 10k budget. if redoing the bathroom floor invloves hacking (and not overlaying), the cost will be significantly higher. need to take into consideration waterproofing, and redoing part of the wall tiles (cos waterproofing membrane will be affected). most contractors charge a lump sum for bathroom flooring.
  16. What tiles would be suitable for driveway and carporch area? Some said its homogenuous, while others say granite, or ceramic. I am not keen on slate tiles as it flakes easily. Would appreciate any homeowners' advise and experience. Thank you.
