Sharp Inverter Aircon - Super Noisy
whitefantasy replied to booksntoys's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi, has your aircon unit problems been solved already? Another forum user mention that for inverter aircon is it more quiet & since yours also the same should be quiet too? Or is it something wrong with the compressor? Did you ask Sharp technicians to verify what's the problem? For my case is non-inverter aircon so it is quite noisy. -
B'cos last time using Carrier non-inverter which is also old technology but very quiet so since Toshiba now merge with Carrier i thot maybe it will be the same, no noise from outside condenser unit after closing the window. And beside that Carrier after sales service is good as compared to Panasonic which sucks! After i email them to complain again our problem, till now 3 days had passed and not a single respond or action taken.

Not sure last time Carrier made from where, but it is quiet. For Panasonic that time i saw the box outside they print made in malaysia. So for Mitsubishi starmex inverter after you closed the window the operating sound of the outdoor unit will not emit into the room & what you hear only the fan coil sound?

Actually i quite confused lor..... how come previously non-inverter that i use for 5 years not noisy at all? Is it all b'cos of the rotary thingy? Carrier is 2 rotary for non-inverter while Panasonic is single rotary? Then new invention will become noisy b'cos of that? Thought for more advanced technology will be quiet but it seem like getting poorer. My main concern is that the outdoor condenser sound will not be emit into the room just like the Carrier one i hv. All this is it mainly due to improper installation or machine problems? If the 46db all amplifier into our room, then it will be almost the same for panasonic unit whereby they measure our indoor masterbedroom & show as 47db. So i cannot make another wrong choice if i want to change another brand.

Yes panasonic technicians did wrap insulation around the compressor but it did not solve the problems at all. If you say non-inverter will have more noise or vibration, then how come the Carrier brand non-inverter that i use previously not noisy at all. Or maybe only panasonic brand non-inverter more noisy then other brands coz the unit is very big and tall?

I was using Carrier non-inverter system 3 (68CNMR321) for 5 years plus before i change to Panasonic non-inverter. For Carrier set the compressor is quiet, what i mean quiet is it does not generate any unwanted sound into the room when in operation. As for the fancoil i think is relatively quiet too. I am not sure if it is due to installation or machine fault. Gain city blame on Panasonic & Panasonic say installation + pipe problems as i am re-using existing piping. The masterbedroom previously piping is for 12,000 btu fancoil whereas now Panasonic piping is for 9,000 btu fancoil. But during the day of installation, Gain City technicians did not mention anything. However if i on the 3rd room which use the small compressor, the drumming & vibrating sound is there although the pipe is correct. The compressor sound fm this room is relatively lower than the masterbedroom but it will still emit into the room from somewhere, don't know fm where? Now we got no choice but to sleep in 3rd common room so that not able to hear the compressor runny noise only the fancoil sound.

Panasonic came again. Their specs stated for outdoor unit is 56db & indoor unit is 36/26 for high & low respectively. And guess what they told us for outdoor unit they will measure fm indoor 1m away fm room window so for our case is 46db so consider normal? But we don't agreed & feel that they are giving some excuses etc. Then what is the purpose for them to classified outdoor unit sound level & indoor unit sound level? But even though they paste sound proof insulation surrounding the compressor, the sound still persist? We asked them if it is due to the grille in front of the fan but they say they check and it is ok.

Ok will give it a try again. Btw, do you think i can ask panasonic to give 1-1 exchange for the condensing unit? B'cos yesterday even after they paste sound proof insulation inside the condensing case covering, the sound still exist. It is like coming out from the compressor itself. B'cos if the sound problems exist fm the coverings then it will definitely solve it, but it does not.

Yes i am also sound sensitive especially sleeping time i need quiet moments. The panasonic fancoil in my MBR sometimes if cut in & out got the p...p...p... like whistling sound. But when i press hard the fancoil cover the sound will be gone. But then it will come back again after a while when the compressor cut in & out. It is that worse sound pressure level but the panasonic technicians keep saying it is normal? The fancoil at my common room don't hv that p.p.p. sound when cut in & out. I had not been sleeping well since day 1 the aircon being installed on 24/08/2010, so already 4 months so you can imagine how stressful. Most of the time i will need to stuff my ears with ear plugs in order to sleep. But ear plugs if use for long hours will make one ear very uncomfortable & painful.

The drumming & whining sound will keep amplifier into the room, if u experience it u will know how i feel. They never check if the compressor got anything wrong or not. Yesterday they came to open the unit & just paste some sound proof insulation on the casing of the condensing unit inner walls but still the sound still exist. If the problems really come from that, it should work but it did not. I suspect something faulty with the compressor itself and that's why it will create a lot of noise + vibration strong enough to emit into our room.

The reason why i choose non-inverter is b'cos i only on aircon for masterbedroom at night, the other 2 rooms very rarely & also i use Carrier brand the compressor noise will not amplifier into the room at all. The carrier compressor sound pressure level is 52db & for panasonic the technician measure the sound pressure level for mine set is 70-75db. And for the indoor unit with medium fan speed is about 46-49db. The continuous drumming & whinning sound from the compressor are definitely stressful for a good night rest!

Maybe still need to double check with you on some details & more info. Will keep in touch with you again. Thanks for your help

Yes i call your h/p on Mon & you say you not in office so can only get back to me on Tue. Remember i was asking you about whether still hv Carrier brand aircon. Thanks!

Hi Aron, I call you on Mon, now still waiting for your reply on my enquiries. Thank you.

Hi, are you using the same model like me, non-inverter system 3? Do you experience noise from your condenser unit? For our case there is no odour when on for all 3 fancoil units. I suspect your fancoil might hv mould that's why will got smell..... did you get panasonic to open up to check what causes the odour?
