Thanks for all the reply. So far those ID firms I approached have in-house designer whom I spoke to personally. They will only provide 3D drawing upon confirmation. Certainly I do not mind to pay for 3D drawing if I like the design. However I don't feel comfortable paying upfront for something I might not even lay my eyes on. I am slowly trained to be a designer for my own house now.

Hi rusty. I realized some so-called IDs are no better than contractor. Like what you mentioned, they "copy-and-paste" typical design with some changes in color and fabric used. I've approached only a few ID so far, most of them wanted to charge me on 3D design ($ per angle)! I don't even know whether I will like the proposed design and I am made to pay for that?! After been to a few reputable furniture shops where I met some shop managers who are able to give sound advice on the layout and space planning, I roughly know what theme I want. One of them told me anyone can be designer, only ourselves know best what we want. That's quite true. Probably we just need a ID to put our perspective into one whole picture.

Nice sofa...what color and fabric are you getting? I've been to lush and most of their items are pre-order so got to wait 2 to 3 months.

Hi all, I am trying to get quote with design plan from ID firm but they are requesting for a fee before they can allow me to view the 3D at their office. Is this a standard or norm practice?
