wolflet, i know. but i dun like the glossy look some designers whom i've met told me that they can do away with the glossy look but still have a protective layer. didnt check how they can do it specifically. will be meeting 1 of them tomorrow so lemme check on their "solution" hey btw, idzign also say can leh
-
i want to stain or dye so that it changes "colour" and gives off a different look altogether also can DIY?
-
noob question#2 for today: current parquet looks like this: to go along with my raw look (if i ever can achieve that), im thinking of sanding it, staining it to a "unfinished" kind of look; NO shiny surfaces though 1. is it possible? 2. anyone has lobang for companies who do such work? all i can find are companies who do varnishing but i do not wish to varnish the parquet floor...

noob question for today: if my appt with hdb is at 2pm, around what time should i schedule the lawyer's appt (located also within hdb hub)? how long is a hdb appt nowadays?
-
samgalz well i've checked with the designer last time and they are very OK with this leh. it all depends in how "involved" i want the designer to be. they can be totally not involved (sell design and byebye), to partially (eg working with edmund and project manage it), to fully (all reno works done by them). I could even source for my own materials instead of them quoting me because i can avoid their markups.... hmmm....sounds attractive....
-
samzgal if i get someone's design and supposedly "buyover" from them and let edmund carry out all the renovation works but keeping to the designer's design, will he allow? which means he would not be working much with me per se....hmmmmm

katie, really? do you stay at blk 1xx jurong east?? heehee wolflet my current count is 10...but my heart is already telling me to go back to my former ID... however, i will try to search for a good one, and if i really cant find someone i can click with, will go back to them again next week: meetings with few IDs FSM to go to unit for "ohhhmmmm", awaiting seller's reply to the appropriate timing
-
not at all if i were to walk from my blk to JE mrt takes at least 20mins? paiseh marshmellow dont mean to hijack ur thread
-
marshmellow i meant that i do not know which blks in JE are point blocks, but yes mine IS a point block. im sure by now you know which blk i would be staying at... i also dont understand why 1xx is so much more ex than st 31/32...............................
-
marshmellow honestly i dunno which blks are point blocks?? haha...i goondu when it comes to jurong. not my territory then do you mean you stay opposite (or rather, beside) parc oasis in a sense? st 31 or 32 there? the flats there is surely cheaper than the cluster of blks at where im staying at
-
oooo i like your basin @ toilet
-
wolflet designer#2 came from your recommendation. i do hope she can give me a good quote next next week.
-
ooo wolflet you do jog. i don't. im just plain lazy....haha...
-
marshmellow i actually do not know my Jurong bearings very well; when i showed my hb the view of your place, he said that we are staying opposite the lake from yours. however, i m staying next to chinese garden mrt too, so right now im scratching my head - am i opposite you or not? btw, as a hint, parc oasis is diagonally opposite my place. i suspect we are staying very very near.............

the search for reno company - update#3:- yesterday night, we met up with 2 designers (not contractors). designer#1 as usual with the rest of the cohorts, he was late. and he was half hour late. being a sucker for punctuality, i was sorely disappointed having to wait for him at home while i could spend the time doing something more worthwhile. anyway, he arrived with the usual introductions and all, and said that my current unit was something he thought he designed (as the design feel was what he is very experience in) blah blah blah blah we gave him out inputs and highlighted to him the areas we feel are problematic ones - the crampy kitchen, the balcony which we find no use for, and the small toilets. after some discussion, he gave very good insights and ideas, keeping in with our raw, industrial look, he gave us some "on the spot" sketches of how he would like our place to look like things like our collectible toys being displayed on the ceiling (so that it becomes your ceiling), raw ceiling with wire mesh & light bulbs, nooky storage compartments that are jumbled yet cohesive well the thing was that he offered a design service, but not carrying out the renovation part. to do that, we need to allow him plenty of time. he suggested that we hire our own main con if we really like his design and he will liaise with the main con to achieve the vision that he (and we) had he left on a final note that we were only to contact him only after we have finalized our FS planning&layout...atas atas my thoughts on him: lots of ideas but a man of few words ok, something to consider.... designer#2 she was late too. she thought we were supposed to meet at her office but we were supposed to meet at my place! so she took time to swing by my place... this company came from a recommendation of a renotalk-er, and i was surprised to know that the designer who came was the boss of the company. basically she gave us 3 proposed solution, which she played around with how the kitchen would looked like, keeping the rest of the place with her same proposed design. she proposed that the balcony area to be designated as a chill out area. well, not for us as we will only chill out in the living room. when asked her what are the other ideas she can provide, she couldn't come up with any. ok, i'll excuse her for that - perhaps i was pushing her too hard? we (hb & i) (more or less) have agreed to use the balcony area to be a dining place cum xbox 360 place cum study area. so a table, chairs (or bench), some storage is needed for this to happen. her quotation came - it was 14k more than our budget. we told her our budget upfront. she was also upfront to tell us that she cannot match our budget but will try to go as close as possible. she also said that she is very keen to take up our project because of the raw, industrial look we want our place to be, it would be a challenge to her my thoughts on her: she is very experienced on the technical stuff of how things work she is very helpful; and a lady of gab

marshmellow i live opposite you! i live actually...err on the other side of the lake. so technically we live opposite each other (albeit a far one) is the nearest mrt station lakeside or chinese garden? i should think lakeside...

woopy-doop, yay! now, my living room flooring is resolved thanks ossify and many others who chipped in ideas!
-
to add on: ossify, i read through the link and it says "The laying of flooring over existing finishes does not involve the following: Raising the floor as a platform Usage of cement screed Hacking/removal of existing floor finishes" QN: In this case, if I just overlay with laminates, is marble considered a suitable subfloor?
-
just FYI: to change the gas pipe within kitchen (assuming you're shifting the cooking area); citygas charges $100 to extend and connect the gas pipe from the cooking "point" to the water heater: citigas charges $60 hope above helps
-
i just checked with citygas - the CSO confirmed that there is gas piping in my blk; and the current owners are using piped gas for cooking, hooray!!
-
marshmellow i forgot which blk you stayed at; can you refresh my memory again? i have very bad memory nowadays...you've got a 4rm? how did you managed to do that haha.... mine is 25 years old. hence im thinking most likely there will be no piped gas. question to all: does that mean i definitely need get those LPG gas to cook? :~ :~

ossify the ID yesterday told me, that the HDB basic cement screed + marble sure hit will be hovering >40mm thick. So if I choose to overlay with tiles, it will be more than 50mm. true or false? so are you saying that if I put on laminates, I still can do so regardless how high (or low) the current floor is? noob qn: do I need to measure from the real ceiling or from the false ceiling??

Hi all I am contemplating to get a coffee machine for my hb since he is a coffee lover. All I know is that there are many types of coffee machine, generally those that goes by filter (with your own grinded beans); or those that has the beans or capsules by the same manufacturer. Any recommendation for a coffee machine? I am thinking of buying grinded beans from coffeebean or starbucks etc and get a filter type of coffee machine for convenience sake. Something mid-range between $400-$800? Brand, Model# welcomed

ossify ah ossify I have one ID who just told me that it can't be done because the marble flooring was very thick to begin with so with the basic cement screed + the laying of the marble, there would be no chance for me to overlay with tiles since I would've hit the "hdb limit"... is there such a limit? if so, how thick?
