  1. Looks like a condo built by Far East.
  2. It felt safer 3 years ago, seems like getting less safe now; body count is one per week (water tank; reserviour, parks). Even burger king also got robbed, which was unheard of. With a wider mix of people, a wider range of crime can be expected. But so far, is there any news/ break-in where the bad guys gain entry by breaking glass door?
  3. New or Modern house seems to be using less and less brick walls, replacing with glass sliding doors/wall. Glass gives the house a modern sleek look and allows more light to enter the house. But what about the security aspect? The more recent ones don't even come with grills. Is there a new glass in the market that is much stronger (stronger than tampered?) Will the bad guys be able to smash the glass to enter the house? Won't the bad guys be able to use a diamond cutter to cut a hole hear the locks then unlock the doors from inside (like in the movies)? If the house (condo) is half way in the sky, it is less of a concern. How do landed owners address this security concern?
  4. Big garden is not easy to maintain. Unless you got a gardener or love gardening, it is good to keep the garden simple and designed for easy upkeeping. One example, Large tree provides shade and attract birds but will drop dead leaves every day and more in autumn (read pick leaves every other day), crack your retaining walls eventually as its roots extend, attract ants and other insects which eventually will make their way into your house. Do select what u want to plant carefully.
  5. Look like world map on the wall behind the TV.
  6. Yes and No. If I work in around Tampines and my 'logistics support' (families) are in Tampines, it makes more sense to buy in Tampines than Tg Pg. But not direct trade for $0 because the psf I paid for in Tg Pg is likely higher than in Tampines.
  7. Do you guys have any strategy to reduce dust from entering landed property? Landed are at ground level and near the road, they seem to get dusty quicker than even 2nd floor flat. What are the things (other than sealing the house) or infrastructures or water features that can be install to reduce leaves from rolling into the carpark and dust from flying into the house?
  8. Paint technology has progressed and they have made them easier and easier to paint. Don be surprised if your paint job is close to professionals. Also note, there are many contractors using banglah who are as skilled as you. You also ensured that you have original and non-over-diluted paint on your walls; u pay for Dulux premium but they give u diluted cheaper paint. Congrats on your paint job.
  9. You can also buy ready made curtain from Giant/ NTUC xtra. For below $20 a pane, you can get material with nice design.
  10. Refinanced with same bank with the following package: 1yr = 3mth Sibor + 0.65% 2yr = 3mth Sibor + 0.7% 3yr = 3mht Sibor + 0.7% Lock-in period 2yr. Thanks guy for your feedback.
  11. Are the rules and restrictions for HDB shop house the same as hdb flat? Is there restriction like MOP, pte house ownership etc? Or are they under commercial property? Can you take housing loans or need to take commercial loan?
  12. Alphakim, How much did you pay for that model? I have seen a very very nice mattress 10/10 near my place but the price also very 'nice'.
  13. Let say you want to a/c your living room; which is a huge square shape. Do you guy have some suggestions on how to partition a small room out of the living room when the a/c in turned on. Prefer the partition is movable and can be kept when a/c is not in use?
  14. Wow, STI so many sessions of Green. Are we going to see some red from here?
  15. STI 3100 held up well. Can we see a rebound? Singapore Market Watch
  16. INGAPORE: Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, said she will not contest the next General Election in 2016. She said she will leave it to someone younger as she will be 57 years old. Speaking at a media conference Wednesday morning, Mrs Lim, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and Transport, said she has served almost 15 years and that's a "reasonable" stretch. Mrs Lim said she was also surprised by the depth of resentment felt by citizens towards the government, which surfaced during the campaign. And while the PAP team was expecting a close fight in Aljunied GRC, Mrs Lim said she was still surprised by the outcome. Mrs Lim said she plans to take a break over the next few months. She also doesn't rule out the possibility of returning to the finance sector. On Tuesday, fellow Aljunied GRC team member, Mr George Yeo also announced his exit from politics. In the contest for Aljunied GRC in the 2011 General Election, the Workers' Party won 54.71 per cent of the votes, leaving the People's Action Party (PAP) with 45.29 per cent. - CNA/cc

  23. ST Forum Home > ST Forum > Story Apr 15, 2011 Chen has done his share for Singapore MR CHEN Show Mao does not need to explain his decision as his actions have spoken louder than words ('About Chen: Time will tell' by Mr Benjamin Chow; yesterday). His resume alone is an answer but more importantly, it raises some issues our country currently grapples with. Mr Chen served national service although he was not obliged to. Unlike Mr Chow and me who were born, bred and remain rooted in Singapore, Mr Chen was not born and was not wholly nurtured by Singapore. And yet, he chose to serve. What more do we need to ask of him? We remember that NS was harsher then, the allowances thinner and yet, the records show Mr Chen served with distinction at the highest level possible. We have serving members of political and high office, including a People's Action Party new candidate, who became Singapore citizens but did not serve NS. Mr Chen was the top student of his batch but never got to study the course of his choice nor was he given a scholarship. If he was given his choice of study (medicine), he would have probably spent the next 10 years studying and training here. He was also not given a Singapore scholarship even though he showed academic and leadership qualities (he was president of an elected student council). We have only ourselves to blame for not rooting this talent in Singapore but rather forcing him to go out into the world to make a name for himself, which he did. Again, as we struggle with issues such as bond-breakers and foreign talent with no affinity for Singapore, we do have more pressing questions to ask before we start trying to question someone coming back with no reward in sight. The Singapore opposition politician's life is a hard one, with nothing to gain and everything to lose - with a record that shows only sacrifice for Singapore with very little else in return. I dare say the facts show Mr Chen in this respect to be whiter than white. Instead of questioning Mr Chen's motives, we have other more urgent matters to resolve. Tan Suan Tiu
