Egyptian Mummies Went to yet another Industrial Estate last weekend. This time we end up in Ang Mo Kio looking for 100% Egyptian Cotton bedsheets. We were told that Egyptian cotton is the best cotton in the world and they used the same kind of cotton to wrap the Mummies. The thought of sleeping on a 1000 thread count 100% cotton bedsheet makes me dreamy, wouldnt mind being wrapped up in it if I were a Mummy. We bought a 1200 thread count King size duvet set @$300, which I think is a steal cos it includes fitted sheet and pillow cases. Have not decided whether to get the same thing for the kids' beds. Will check out King Koi's warehouse sale this weekend first. Why do warehouses have to be so far? Hope i wont end up in JB. I'm hopeless with directions.

We bought Def Tech uiw 55A for the living room. The speakers only come in white but our ceiling is brown. Got to spray paint them. Contractor says cannot use normal wall paint cos the casing is metal. Hope they can find a spray paint colour that is similar to the ceiling colour.

Living Room False ceiling is done. Dennis from KEC came down to cut holes for the in ceiling speakers. We chose rectangular ones for living room and round ones for dining room. The bigger rectangle cut out is for the aircon Our ultra long wall hung cardboard above the TV. It is about 7m long with 14 doors. It will house our books (some here, some elsewhere cos we like books in every room), extensive collection of memories (hard copy photos which we love to thumb through every now and then), my husband's extensive collection of CDs (which is collecting dust and breeding mold), board games, music related stuff (piano will be at a corner under the cabinet) Close up pix of the cardboard. Carpenter give us blum soft closing hinges.

Thanks NeO, Bonding Agent (not sure what it is but reminds me of the super spy, James) is the first item on my agenda for our weekly meeting tomorrow. Wouldn't want popping pebbles or cracked floor.
-
Thanks for the tip. Will highlight to my ID to highlight to the contractor. Saw a hugh bag of pebbles on my garden. Reckon they are going to start on my car porch soon.
-
The whole car porch will be pebble wash. Saw it in my neighbour's house. Very resort like. Hope the contractor can finish in a few days time. Will post pix to show you.

Its just a teaser...it takes time to write a long, snooze induced, guaranteed bored to death update. Wait patiently ok? Thanks for the informative info. Do we still have to use flexible adhesive if we are having pebble wash at the car porch?

The company is Jackson. They are having carpets and rugs sale at their own warehouse. Its at Jackson's, 21 Tai Seng Link. The Lifestory is also having their warehouse sale in the same location. Look out for their sofas, very good price but not sure about quality (yet), waiting for mine to be delivered in Oct.

Looking For Long Dining Table (2 Metres)
green giraffe replied to erwin123's topic in Home Furnishings
Hi pawpal, Sorry for the Incomplete information. Here's the address : d-bohdi, 12 Kung Chong Road (a slip road off Leng Kee behind Porche car show room). I bought a 2.5m recycled teak lekk dining table for $1809. They have a sister company that sells similiar things but not sure about the prices. Journey East : 315 outram rd, tan boon liat building #03-02 or 15 Joan road (near TCS) Hope you can find something nice there. It took me a while to find long solid wood table at a reasonable price. Almost tempted to go to chiang mai to source for it. -
Potty Toilet And Basin For Kids
green giraffe replied to ignoranceisbliss's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Hi there, I have 4 kids of various ages, the youngest is 2 years old. I have never find a need for an additional child size potty cos they grow up real fast and soon you will be left with an underutilized toilet bowl (and an eyesore). They also like to act like grown ups and would prefer using mommy and daddy's potty. However, if you intend to have lots of children (at least half a dozen) or start a childcare, then it is worth the investment. I know, we just want the best for them . For potty training, I use a kid size toilet seat that can be placed over the existing toilet bowl. You can get that from places like kiddy palace, toys r us or kids section of any dept stores. Its easy to use. All toddles need help in cleaning themselves after using the potty. By the time they can clean their own bum to a satisfactory standard, they can actually be promoted to use the adult potty. As for the wash basins, i agree it would be nice to have a lower one cos they wash their hands many times a day. Are you thinking of having two wash basins? One for adults and one for kids? or just one at a lower height? As for my family, we use ikea stools for the kids to step on to wash their hands, brush their teeth etc. We are a family of dwarfs, the ikea stools were the best household investment to date. -
Preambles Once upon a time, at the far eastern corner of Singapore, an excited short giraffe wanted to keep a journal of the renovation process of its new zoo. It started with a daily update for a few days then weekly for a grand total of 1 week then it became sporadic and haphazard. Sigh.. that's the problem with giraffes, they always get distracted by greener and juicier leaves. Here's a monthly update. Warning : It is going to be boring. Read at your own risk. Tissues not provided for those who are bored to tears. Front gate - Only meter box done and power connected. Sliding gate and fence still pending for detailed drawing from ID Car porch - Old red floor tiles removed, Lighting and power points done, painting the wooden support of the pitch roof over the car porch Garden - Removed unwanted trees, digging new dam...i mean drain. Living Room - Main sliding glass doors fixed, 7 m hanging cabinet fixed, first coat of paint done, in ceiling speakers hole drilled. Sorry folks.. dinner time, we are going for an interval. Be back soon.

2 months is fast. We were told to wait for 4 -5 months. Opennet couldnt come on time for our reno. So we are leaving an empty conduit just outside our main gate (under the drain) to await for their Royal arrival. Just heard from my contractor that they are coming to test the lights and power point end of the month. Looks like they are rushing to finish as much as they can. Hooray, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. Ok not going to try too hard to get them to be genius...am contented to have 4 healthy, active, boisterous and highly evolved primates. You have a good weekend too.
-
Psst.. told my kids no need to study for test, force feeding them chips and ice cream and told them its a magical diet to become a genius like aunty Pinktini. (only 3 kowtowing, toddler still too young). Glad to save money on thousand year ginseng, ginko nuts and smelly cod liver oil.

Good thing you applied early. Have you started on electrical works? Your meter box need to be ready before they come. They just need one day to dig and connect the cables. Same thing with Singtel and Opennet.
-
The one in Tai Seng is still on. Cheaper than Ikea and better quality. Its worth checking out. At the same time, can also look at sofa and stuff from The Lifestorey.

Let There Be Power We had a pleasant surprise on Monday. Saw a digger 2 doors away from my house, saw the cones that say SP services. Couldnt believe our luck. Asked one of the Indian workers if they are from SP services. He said yes. Quickly took out camera to snap pictures just in case its all a dream (too painful and old school to pinch myself). You see, doing A&A or reconstruction is a long and tedious process. It involves lots of red tape, applying for permits from various agencies such as URA, BCA, MOM, NEA etc, waiting for approval, getting SP services, singtel, starhub, openet etc to do connection. Wait for testing, apply for TOP, wait for TOP checks and finally (fingers crossed) obtain TOP. Initially, we target to obtain TOP in mid August but due to some miscomm, we only sent out our cheque to SP services early July. Then contractor said it takes 6 weeks for them to come and connect new cables and another 4 weeks to get them to test the lights. A slow mental calculation shows that the earliest we could move in is late Sept/early Oct which is way too late for us. To our contractor's credit, he went down personally to SP services to appeal (got to learn a trick or two from him), They came 4 weeks EARLY!! Yippee!

Yo! Bought same rug on same day (no kidding). Acted helpless, so they helped me to load rug into car (one advantage for being the weaker sex, i guess) Did not dawn on me to check the rug till i saw your photos....silly me. Making a mental note now. Btw, gorgeous tiles you have there.
