Have not checked on progress today. Was busy shopping. Burnt a big hole in our pockets. But was glad that the GSS is on and a lot of shops are having sales. Very happy that we could get something that both of us like and is approved by our ID. Here are some of the things we got. First stop was at The Life Shop. They are having 15% + 10% discount. The best bargain was 3 white porcelain tall coffee pot at $10, 2 white serving platter at $12. We bought a king size bed frame in dark stained teak with a rattan weaved headboard to go with Sealy matteress bought from Robinsons. We also bought the storage cabinet (in dark stained) at the end of the bed The coffee table for our living room but a bigger size (1.2m x 1.2m) than the one in the photo Another good buy was a porcelain wash basin. We wanted to buy 2 for our master bedroom toilets but they only have one left. Will probably use it for our powder room.

More photos. Hope i am not overdoing it. View from master bedroom toilet. The cement structure in the middle will house the bracket of the conceal toilet bowl. On the left of the cement structure is the toilet bowl and the right is a bathtub. There will be a skylight on top of the wc area Kid's toilet wc area. Dining area and a water feature beyond that

It has been awhile...Renovation is going on full steam. Here's an update of the things that are done so far: - Meter box at front gate is almost done. Pipes are all in. Hubby said we should label them which is a good idea. Will instruct contractor to do that. - One side of Music room wall is up. The platform is now raised concrete floor instead of wooden platform cos contractor mistaken the platform in the music room for the one in the kids room which we have decided to do away. So he didnt quote us for it in the carpentry cost. But he made it up by constructing a concrete one. - Doing away with toilet in maid's room. Will be using the extra space for shelves in the music room and extra space in the maid's room. - Wall in the yard is also up. They have level the ground at the water feature area. - Electrical wiring in Kids room is done, it is ready for carpentry work. - Walls in kids and masterbed room toilets are done. Doing plumbing work now. They will be doing the metal roof next followed by the wall of the newly created master bedroom. Will take pictures tomorrow.

Hi all, I am at the hunting for furniture stage. Am looking for a long solid wood dining table, about 2.5m. Any recommendation? Thanks in advance.

I have the same kind of manhole like you. The manhole is in the back of my house but we only discovered that it is 4m deep after the contractor hacked away the cement floor (illegal) and opened the manhole. It was an unpleasant surprise cos we are doing an extension of the second floor at the back of the house and we have to dig a trench and build a u shape concrete structure (additional time and cost... sigh!) to protect the sewage pipe. Before they start, they have to use the cctv to do a survey and video recording of the pipes from our manhole and also from our neighbours' houses (with manhole) on our left and right. They will do a survey again after the construction to make sure that the pipe is not damaged. The cost of cctv survey inspection depends on the length of the pipe (i think). The length of my pipe is 69m long and was quoted $2500. I have PMed you the contact. Hope its helpful.

Will You Buy Lunch For Your Contractor's Workers?
green giraffe replied to Reno145's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
My main con has two workers from China stationed at my new house. Bought lunch, mineral water and packet drinks on the first day. They usually cook their own lunch and dinner. Once a while i'll get them drinks or biscuits. Just that I'm on my way buying lunch or just buy some extra drinks when i go grocery shopping. Not with the hope of them doing a good job lah. When you give without expectation, you will always receive in unexpected ways. -
Just went to Econflo Systems at beach road this afternoon. There's a sale for Hansgroher stuff and other brands. They also have left over stock of bathroom sink, kitchen sink, toilet bowls from project works which are selling quite cheap. On the second floor, they also have their house brand mixers, toilet roll holder, towel rack etc going at a good price. Design looks modern. Was crowded when I went there and there were not enough sales persons. I suggest you go early. They open at 10am. I bought some stuff for my kids toilet and guest toilet. Might go again to get rainshower for master bathroom.

Yeap.. less restriction. We will be extending the back of the second storey to 2m from the boundary wall. Adding a family room, walk in closet and a bigger master bedroom. Will post my layout but have to figure out how to first. Not very techno savvy. Maybe will consult my eldest son.

Thanks for the warm welcome. We need the space indeed. With 4 boisterous boys who are always kicking balls in the house and damaging things, we hope they will expand their energy in the garden. We also have a lot of little guests coming for sleepovers. It will be the 2nd Singapore zoological garden with 7 people in the family plus guests especially in the weekends.

This will be an online journal of our renovation journey. Like everyone else, I have been waiting eagerly for the renovation to start after months of planning and waiting for permits. So eager that i went down to the new house three times on the first day. Luckily i just live 3 mins away from the new house. Will be adding yellow boots and helmet to my shopping list. First some "before" photos to share Front of the house Front door
