  1. hi donal5, congrats to you! i have to say, till now, i haven't have a confirmed ID in mind. my previous owner moved out earlier than my expectation. tt's why my reno research still in progress. but currently i have a couple of quotes which will cost ard $40k to $45k (include electric work, windows and doors). Each of these IDs have their strengths and weaknesses. Pricing wise, they are very competitive. I am still evaluating among them in terms of service (willingness to FOC or give discounts), workmanship and knowledge. Will PM u their contacts only, as quotes are pretty confidential. =) But you can say referred by me, hopefully they can based on my quote to quote you as well. Hopefully by end of this week, i can confirm with an ID and proceed my actual reno work. Tired of this researching and sourcing stage.
  2. arghh... **** sad. this is what we called unexpected cost along reno process. i'm pending the ID's quote for grinding and plastering of the ceiling. if it costs a bomb, i will just put false ceiling to cover up the whole ceiling of living /dining and bedrooms. haiz....
  3. hi booksntoys, can i have the price and contact too? many thanks!
  4. Hi all, my current ceiling is rockstone effect. I will like to have smooth ceiling for my ceiling work such as Clove Light and L-Box stuff. Speaking to various IDs and contractors. some said plaster will do. while there are few said that plastering wont hold the rockstone for more than 3 years, thus need to grind off the rockstone before plastering. any similar experience /advice to share? Many thanks!!!
  5. cool. didnt know u have such a wide range of solid top to choose from. so, if i rank them in terms of quality and $$$, it should be: quartz > granite > acrylic > polyester. right?
  6. ADVICE Needed: I am thinking of overlaying laminate flooring for all my 4 bedrooms. But continue to hack existing homogenous tiles in living /dining area and lay new homogenous tiles. Couple of IDs said no problem on that. Just that the bedrooms flooring will be slightly higher than living /dining room. They will make a slope at connecting portion at the door frame area, so that we wont feel /kick the kerb. But there is one ID who strongly object this arrangment. He suggested overlaying homogenous tiles over the existing homegenous tiles as well. So that the whole unit flooring will be the same. So guys, what do you think?
  7. After having my mother-in-law and mother coming over to my rented place to stay and baby-sit my baby boy, i have decided that i need one VERY important thing in my new house. MORE ROOMS!!!! I have called the IDs and contractors to re-design my floorplan. Thrash the idea of big mastrbd room. I want 4 rooms now. But the problem lies here. How may i going to squeeze things into my masterbd room with the new layout... I have seen Thattrader's thread and visited his place last weekend with Ossify. He did a very good layout plan for his 5i unit. Will try to emulate his ideas into mine. Good news. My property agent just told me that the owner is moving out on 16-Nov-10. That means i can start my reno earlier!!! woohooo!
  8. hey thattrader, seem like ya very busy. anyway, i'm that person who visited your place with ossify on sunday, urs house warming. glad that i have seen ur house, cause i have a very very similar layout as you. i love your toilets a lot. before seeing ur toilet, i have problem conveying my ideads to IDs and contractors as most of them said too small to have shower screen area, vanity and WC. But u managed to did it with such a nice design too. Hopefully you can see this msg, as i will like to bring my wife to your place oneday to see for herself. hehe. PM me bro. thanks!
  9. Not much activities nowadays. My wife just gave birth to our very first child on Tuesday. Papa has been busy with baby names, birth cert, CDA account, maid levy, baby stuffs and etc... busy busy busy. And i need to go back work on next Monday.
  10. Hi knightskid, PM u. Good luck!
  11. I also quite pissed with the ids n contractors when i asked them abt citygas. None of them able to advise me properly. I dunno which r the things to install and where to install the heater.
  12. i think ur contractor lay mud rather than cement on ur wall /flooring before they put up the wall /floor tiles!
  13. hi, can check with u darwin quote u LG Hi-macs with the kitchen package? no top-up? i am also taking darwin, but id only offer Aysuka solid top at $85/foot.
  14. cool. will check out at floor option n floor xpert this weekend. **question on door frame: the contractor told me that normal door frame is flush together with the wall one. if i want a embolded door frame, he said it's artic-frame (dunno spell correct or not). this artic-frame will cost more. true?

  20. Hi all, considering laminate flooring for my bedrooms. for the past few days, i have been reading up forum and visited the expo showroom for info on laminate flooring. still cannot decide which to go for. my budge is ard $3 psf to $ psf. Saw a thread on pergo and robina selling at ard these range from 3 local shops. apart from these brands, any good recommendation? must be at least A/C 3 and water resistant bah...
  21. wow... i just came back from expo. talked to many of the laminate sellers there. heng i didn't put deposite with any of them yet, as it seems like there's still so many homework to be done here. haha... wanna laugh about that jocelyn from evorich on her self post. scary leh... she and another male colleague /boss served me when i was at their counter. dun feel comfortable with the experience. very scare they intro me lousy laminate but premier pricing. i read abt pergo from other thread. seems pretty famous... one of the seller's webstie has promotion of $1.80 spf for pergo. dunno real or not. tmr will call them up and check.
