  1. Hi Gals mama, nice to hear from you again. How's things yr side? I guess will have to do that soon - now already taking up too much space in my store room. Ya that smell really sucks - went to bed with a headache, and wake up still headache! Lucky for the heavy downpour today, hurray - no more smell!
  2. er .. sorry i did not check that one. Did not know must check one - until I read kerio's blog about uneven cement base. Maybe someone with better knowledge can help?
  3. why not read up some of the t-blogs here to get a feel. sometimes a good contractor/ID to one may not be the same for another. Also got to meet up with several to feel the "click" factor. Actually those home decor shows at the expo are a good start too to find out more about IDs, learn what to ask, what to look out for etc. Bring along yr floor plan - they can also advice on general space planning so give you an idea of what you can expect. Or, if you already have some ideas, you can talk to them and see how feasible the plans are. Of course, do this with an open mind, and do not sign until you are sure. Some firms are known to use sales tactic like free gifts etc. Some may entice you with the "no obligation 3D drawing" package - but that's up to you if you think you need that. Good luck!
  4. Hi kerio so sorry to read about yr unpleasant experience with yr ID. Hope everything will turn out well from now - tell her about the powers of RT and maybe instil some fears which may become motivating factors to get things rectified and completed properly ..
  5. wow, looks like you are coordinating everything yourself - no joke! Yr electrical quote seems really high! Have you made comparison with a few others? marble slabs - wow - can't wait to see - but I'm sure it will burn a really big hole in yr pocket! All the best in yr reno journey!
  6. sorry I am also not familiar with the opennet. In my house, we have very basic needs for internet connection - ie just to surf, email etc. so we only have the modem connected to one point, and we can surf anywhere in the house wireless. Of course the speed etc may be compromised, but since we have very basic needs here, it serves us fine.
  7. Hi countblessings why don't u consider doing L box instead of false ceiling? Then the centre portion can be higher, and you can install a ceiling fan? My floor to ceiling height is about 2.5m, and we are using the elmark mini fan. Surprisingly it's quite windy - perhaps bc our rooms are very small. The elmark mini has 5 short blades, despite the length, it is effective - according to salesman, it's the angle in which the blades are positioned.
  8. HA HA HA! At first, I thought something wrong with my screen so waited a while for the pix to load!!!??!?! Flamedav, you are really ultimate man!
  9. just curious - how much is cab fees these days? say from orchard rd to FV?
  10. hi neighbours want to check how you all dispose of yr old newspapers? This being new estate, I have yet to spot any garung guni man. And now my newspapers are piling up mountain high, recycling bin also not in use yet. so what did you do to yours? btw did you experience that horrid smell yesterday? Gave me a terrible headache - even now headache still lingering ... I wonder what is the cause?
  11. actually school opposite is good! Next time yr kids go to school you can see them from home! Speaking of kites, you all fly kites or not? The girls are keen but suaku me have never flown a kite before! Serious!!? Sounds scary - such kind of bird allowed in flat?
  12. do you mind taking a pic of the frame? as well as the part where the hinges join glass door to frame? We are still angry with ourselves for not doing more homework and having to live with the wooden door
  13. i think different brand has diff spec - usu give recommended distance between hood and stove for best efficiency. Also, some hoods protrude more than others, so if knocking is a concern, then maybe choose something that protrudes less? But I have recently heard from a friend that there is such a new hood with adjustable heights - so you can adjust it according to the kind of cooking. You heard about that?
  14. very impressive, Jaskel Now I know why you are so so busy!
  15. I think the colour of the laminate is fine. You planning to do glass backing like in the 3D? So where are you putting the fridge?
  16. do u have to change the door frame to cater to the glass door?
  17. 53 days not so bad ... faster than mine ... still waiting for yr pix! when when?
  18. can ask what are the 3 rectangles on the right hand side of kitchen? instead of U, why not extend the cabinets on the right all the way, and the fridge nearer the entrance to kitchen? The space behind the fridge can be a full height open shelf or additional work top. Personally I prefer not to have too many L in the cabinets bc corners restrict access to storage. Also with an L shape cabinet, you pay for the overlap twice (correct me if I am wrong here). Besides the U arrangement will make it very squeezy to work in the kitchen. just my 2cents
  19. does yr house come with glass toilet doors?
  20. 15may wow, seems that you are very active in alot of forums! you know, before we reno, hubby has been asking me to get ID, but I refused to pay more since I more or less already know what I wanted. So when we did the house hopping last month, my hubby was really wow and woo over yr place. Then after returning home, kept on saying if only .. if only ... so to convince him, I said I will go ask 15may how much she spent to reno her place. Mind telling me how much?
  21. sorry Reg was reading too fast - realised that our contractor Edmund is not Dx's Edmund. Ours is ADecor - sorry!
  22. hi botaq yup, that's black galaxy - supposedly the hottest at the moment. My neighbour even had that for the whole house flooring - wooo, can see reflection of the whole place!
  23. hey reglxt, me not dex but will answer for him - yes, we are both using Edmund, though I believe Dex did sub out a few scope to other subcons. was just reading yr blog, quite speedy reno, I must say.
  24. Hi FV2 technically, there is nothing wrong with the dish rack. Just that it's a bit too high for me, though we did intentionally bring it lower to cater to my height during measurement. Another problem is that the dish rack is on the left side of the sink and right tucked in the corner, so I find it a little inconvenient to reach out without water dripping all over and flowing down my arm. So after trying and psychoing myself to accept it for more than a month, we finally decided to get a table top one. so that's one lesson learnt in the space planning. I think the best is to have it above the sink (but my case can't bc my sink is infront of the window) so as to catch any dripping water. If right hander, obviously right side is better and vice versa. If the drainer is to be mounted to the left or right of sink, it needs to be even lower, because you need to stretch out further to reach the same height.
  25. maybe it's harder to pull out bc the drawers are empty? I had some 20kg and some 50kg. For the 50kg, some are still not fully loaded, and I do find it harder to pull those out. Why not try adding some load to see if it's any easier? that's good for you! think you have a very smooth reno. Heard from the worktop guy that black galaxy is the hottest colour so I'm hardly surprised that it's out of stock! btw can you do me a favour? Can you help sound out Edmund that I'm still waiting for his two people? Very paiseh to keep smsing him, bc not very urgent, yet still want it done or I'll keep having a feeling that something is incomplete. Thanks so much!
