  1. hi ne0mesis can ask what is a stone impregnator? when is this layer done? after the laying or is it some kind of regular maintenance thing? also how do we tell how porous a marble is? other than seeing which marble looks nicer, we don't really know how to tell the difference between quality? Price wise, the few we see are also about the same price thanks

  4. Hi Sam do u know if they can handle piano? Bc i was told that some movers do not want to do piano. btw any contact number off hand?
  5. wah, that's very ex! Grace, can I trouble you to post a pix of your drinking water system? Both the top and the underneath, please? Is the faucet ss? The multi pure one is chrome plated - I fear the coat may wear off after some years, though they warranty the housing for 25 yrs
  6. Hi am back again after so many days without internet connection. Really sick with singtel and its lack of efficiency to resolve problems! anyway, $280 per trip (ended up have to make 2 trips bc they said not advisable to stack too high) $80 forpiano $30 for second location. So total $630 Is this super expensive? I did not make comparison before because this was recommended by the warehouse storage company. But after this experience, I definitely need to relook for another mover for the next move 3 months later. Any recommendations?
  7. Hi Sazeryn are you using any glass backsplash? I like your laminate color combination. also thinking of doing 2 tone for top and bottom cabinet, plus different colour for backsplash - don't know will become too messy or not?
  8. Just wanted to add another negative experience with the mover. Today the boss called to say cheque bounced. I was shocked, but said I will check immediately. Realised that I had issued some cheques previously for the rental, which landlord had not deposited, so I overlooked that I had insufficient in the account. Anycase, I called him right away to apologise, and said I had transferred funds into account. As advised by the bank, I wanted to tell him that they will return him an image of the cheque, which he can re-submit in a few days. But he kept interrupting me, saying I am like some other customers, who give empty cheque and in the end, he could not collect his $$. And he hang up the phone. I called back, feeling uneasy about being misunderstood and wanting to explain to him properly. I asked if he can wait till next week to recieve the cheque image from the bank, but he insisted I pay him cash. I tried to explain that there will be charges on my part if I cancel a cheque, and again tried to ask nicely if he could wait a few days. Again he rudely said don't try to run away because he knows where I store my things and can just cart away some stuff if he did !not receive payment. And again hung up the phone. This is followed by an sms from him saying that if I don't pay him cash next day, he will go report to police! I kept trying to explain that I can understand his situation, about bad experiences and non-payment etc, but he refused to listen. Any case, I said if I really want to run away, i would not have bothered to pick up his calls or even call him to explain. Exasperated, I called his office to explain, and his staff immediately understood and said ok, and told me that the boss has very bad temperament and has "scolded" many clients before. Anyway she said she will explain to her boss. Half an hour later, he called again, said ok he will wait till next week, but I was just too taken aback by such attitude. Ya, of course, i know where he is coming from, but surely he does not need to threaten with police? Anyway, decided to pay him cash and close the case. But definitely won't dare to use him again in future, even though he later did sms to apologise for being rude. What a terrible experience! To think that I was overall happy with the move and was chatting happily with his team just few days back!
  9. wah, that's scary. Did you have to pay full when ordering? Or just deposit?
  10. ya, it's like that. sure to quarrel one ... unless either both think exactly the same, or most of the time, one party give in to the other. But end of the day, when you see the end-result, i'm sure all happy again ... but seriously, painting is not easy. I attempted to re-paint our walls too, in batches since we were still staying there, and had aches all over, esp the neck, after the 2 weeks
  11. As promised, pictures taken during moving froggy being wrapped loading the piano mr strongman
  12. Hi htng you sure you want to do that? I don't really know, but i suspect that might reduce it's anti slam function by half? Looking at the price list now: 107deg clip top hiinge $1.63 blumotion $2.43 mounting plate $0.80 so 1 set of hinge + acc ~ $5 x 2 for a cabinet ~ $10 if you have 20 cabinets in the house = $200 if you use half blum, save $100 but sacrifice function i find that's not worth it, but of course just my opinion
  13. wah, the multi pure salesman quoted me $980 for the system. He says it will cost more because theirs is using a solid carbon filter, so need only to change the filter annually, compared with the brands that need more frequent changes. Is this true? The price difference is alot!
  14. Fri, 18 June 2010 Review of Movers For the last few days, life had been a mad rush, tranporting things between old house, rental house and Big Orange. On the other hand, since I have not had my internet hooked, life had become on a standstill. I couldn't do my daily RT reading in the nights - that was tough! Anyway, on the day of the move, 15/6, there was heavy rain in the morning. Because of that, moving was delayed for a few hours. Nonetheless, the team was very efficient and managed clear whatever they were supposed to quickly - making a total of 2 trips to Big Orange, 1 detour to my rental place. Good points * team spirit very high amongst movers. There was no "snaking" among them, and the younger ones taking care of the slightly older movers. * they were careful with my stuff. Wrapped up the items as appropriate. Movers were all "gentle' with my things. * seems to have no limit to the number of boxes provided Not so good points * came late (but could be due to rain and traffic jam?) * some of the boxes were wet because they were left in the open for too long. I thought they could have left them in the void deck and briing them to the open when ready to load. * they promised a 16feet truck, but a 14feet came. * As a result had to do 2 trips because they were not willing to stack too high. Their reason being things will topple when the truck makes a turn and my stuff may be damaged. So 2 trips means $ spent x2. Just curious - how big a truck were you given for moving? What's the biggest size? will post some pix of the move later.
  15. Hi everyone Good to know that I am not alone! Sure look forward to any development coming our way at Fernvale! There is still the big plot of empty land next to the temple, hope they put that to good use! Thanks folks!
  16. just quickly clean stains or spills away should be ok right? Ya ya, I know, easier said than done, esp with children gals mama, how old are your girls?
  17. wow thanks new new didn't know they have a website - nice soothing music
  18. Since this is my t-blog, thought I should document all here. In years to come, I can hopefully return this blog and re-live the excitement of this adventure ... Mon, 14/6/2010 Tomorrow will be a big day for us. We will be moving out of our house of 13 years, and into a rental room , hopefully for 2 months while our new flat is undergoing renovation! Meanwhile, all our stuff will be stored in Big Orange - we decided to get 2 smaller aircon units instead of 1 big non-aircon one, since we will be storing the piano. I am also hoping that my girls can do their piano practice from there! Had been spending days and weeks packing, too busy to think. But this evening, as the sun was setting and the sky was the usual beautiful bright red, we couldn't help feeling such nostalgia, as we look out of the windows and enjoying the fantastic unblocked view for the last few times. We had had so many national day gatherings here, because of the "live" fireworks display that can be seen clearly in our house, the helicopter hoovering past with the flag. All these despite being next to the main road, with it's busy traffic during peak hours, despite the sounds of the school bells and the voices of children in the school next "door" , or the shouting and chattering of the big boys in the basketball court right next to my block. Sure going to miss all these ... So all three of us, for the first time since we moved in 13 years ago , opened the window grilles and started clicking away. We just realised today how different the view can be without being blocked by the grilles. How I wish I had a more professional camera, or some kind of wide screen lens to capture it all! I practically cooked a feast tonight, since there was still so much food in the fridge and we had to clear everything before the movers come in! Ouch, now my stomach hurts from over-eating ... Going to miss the big space too - downgrading from an EA (146) to a 4-room (90). Still not sure how i am going to do it - there are just so many things that I can't bear to throw - so many sentimental things! Esp my children's art work, there are boxes and boxes of those! Just two weeks ago, we had given away some of our furniture to the salvation army, and disposed many more of the not-so-good ones. Wow, I did not know we have to pay to dispose before this! So that's all for a start - think i should go get some sleep because I expect to run like a mad dog, making a few trips to and fro tomorrow!
  19. can check, those of you who have been to homage or s&c. what is the price of a glass top dining table like? something 1.5 to 1.6m? Right now have a dining table, but don't really like the design and the chairs. Thinking if I should just discard and get new ones. But so far, the ones I see from furniture shops all costs more than 1k, some even 2k. You think possible to get some decent ones froom homage at less?
  20. went to crystal home bc they are just opp my place. But i don;t like their design, looks nice but i find not practical. For me, a very simple shelf with horizontal boards will do - easy to store, easy to take out. Anything more complicated than that, i know my girls (and me too) will not use beyond the novelty period. Price wise, I remembered not cheap, from 300+
  21. I think it's a matter of personal preference? For me, never flood kitchen like my mum used in to old house. Only mop, so not planning to do base
