wah, that's a very "dangerous" hobby! when you say hone a knife, do you mean using the steel rod thing or using the block? I notice some sets come with the rod, but not sure if I know how to use. btw since you are into knife, can give comments on whether ScanPan is good or not? Really very tempted to get the set - so far cannot find any review on the internet - and very scared if after buying then read something negative. Nowadays, I base alot of my purchases on internet reviews ! btw can ask another question, Floppy. The salesgirl highlighted a dot (should I say "dent" mark?) on the ScanPan knife. According to her, all handmade knives have that "dot". Is this true? I scrutinised the 2man brand at OG, but cannot find any with those "dots".

Quite a bit has been done to the house too ... kitchen tile / cabinet base / sink support shower screen kerb - want to cry - shower screen so small! think once go inside must minimise movement, otherwise sure to knock on glass hi can check what kind of door all of you use for toilet? Visited June's house (same block as me - hey, thanks, June!) and agreed with her that casement door is too tight for ease of entry/exit to toilet. now also headache where to hang the towel rail etc?? have anyone used those 3M toilet products? Thought of using those since no need to drill and no worries about changing position etc but not sure if they can take the weight over long term?

Mon, 19 July 2010 Some new purchases over the last few days "Rainbow" dining light Hyflux Water Filter Elmark Mini for 3 rooms (without lights) - after changed our mind over and over - from elmark, to Amasco, to Crestar, to Fanco, and finally still back to Elmark, despite reviews of its poor service - hope we won't regret Mixer Tap for Kitchen - not our first choice, but this one is really close to the hyflux faucet, so we decided to go for it anyhow - crazy right, decision making based on things like that

wah so chim was at sim lim yesterday, and popped over to OG opposite to see if promo is still on. It is true that even for the 2 man ones, there are many grades, and price for a 5 to 6 pc set ranging from $300+ to $600 or $700+. one thing need to ask, Floppy, since you seem quite well-versed in this. Noticed, when taking out the knives from the rack, that there are lots of scratches. Is this due to mishandling since they are display sets? Or is this kind of knife easily scratched?

Hi everyone thanks for all the well-wishes - i do hope for everything shun shun li li also! It's a big project for us, but a small one for the contractor, so i am sure everything will work fine! fast and furious ah? This one not sure - need 2.5 months lor! But never mind lah, as long as HO on the dot, it's ok, if not later fast and error then more headache

hi durian and insane read somewhere that the one man knife (with "international") is made in china, whereas the 2 man is german-made. But anyhow, a knife is a knife - as long as it serves its purpose, I guess it is a good knife - so I guess I kind of answer my own question of whether ScanPan is a good knife hor?!?!

hi hi .. maybe I give this thread a boost. Anyone with review on this? thanks!

ha ha, then be prepared to faint again when reno starts ... i guess it's personal preference? But for me, super sensitive stomach - tap water equates to stomach ache. LOL what's that? where to get?
-
wow, can feel your excitement!

wah, cindy, then you should say you are contractor lah! def contractor get cheaper, bc that's what the saleslady tell us too - carpenters have special price list! but i wonder how much lesser? Jaskal?

Since at harbour front, we also walk walk see see, and saw this shop selling knife set from Scan Pan. Looks quite solid - but since this is another alien area for me, thought best to check here if anyone knows of this brand? I believe the best knives are from German? This one is Denmark-made. http://www.pantrypursuits.com/to-cut-with-...an-classic.html any idea?

Today also went to a few places to recee water filter system. 1. Hyflux - Sam, confirm they have the 2 stage filtration system at $579, including installation - membrane up to 0.01 micron, then carbon filter. The salesgirl does not advice more than 2 stages, because will slow down the water flow considerably. I also agree, think 2 stage is good enough - for me, mainly is to get rid of the chlorine taste in water so I can drink direct from tap without heading to the toilet! 2. HiTech - they have a korean brand, very very cheap. They sell the parts - filters, pipes, elbow etc, all coming to less than $100. Just need to get a faucet from outside shops and get plumper to install. But for this, first filtration is just sendiments, not membrane. Actually this is good enough, but we are not comfortable with small parts here and there. 3. EverPure - also 2 stage, similar to hyflux, $600 plus. In the end, we decided on hyflux, mainly because it's hyflux! ha ha if PUB uses them, I think their technology must be good lah! But the other advantage is - changing of filter is hassle free - no need to clean water running from pipes etc becaue of their auto shut off function. BTW this system filter replacement is $265 for 3000litre, roughly one yr - depending on usage.

wow insane, you haven't even started yet thinking of cutting cost already ah? .. Actually when we got quotation, we went through this cut-cost stage too, but when got keys, we ended up adding alot of items, so the figure just keep ballooning! On paper, we kept saying some things just get cheap one, but when we actually make comparison, we changed our mind again - better get something more reliable so better lasting, nicer to the eye, so the house don't look so small etc etc - many thoughts to justify the spending!

nice laminate colour - cosy and bright! is that darker coloured strips between drawers/cabinets or just the lighting?
-
Hi need some expert opinion again. Saw this brand of knife in Harbour Front today - Scan Pan. Being a noob in this area, can anyone advise if this is a good brand? Used to use those cheapo pieces in previous house - but now thought of getting a set complete with rack, but not cheap. Appreciate any input. thanks!

bearlyn better be careful if shop with ID hor. So many shops we go to tell us they sell ID list price, but if customer direct, straight away give discount without us asking - that's ID margin!
-
wah, nice. So happy for you - at long last. me another 2 months plus, and I think i have more than twice yr amount of boxes to unpack lei! Think eventually i will have to discard alot more things - should have been hard hearted and just throw throw throw when packing ! Double work!!! btw i like your coffee table. We are looking for a mini one too!
-
Hi Dexufto dunno leh, looks cools, but more importantly, think it's something very useful and practical to have. But the cost is kind of scary?? esp since the adaptors are the ones that are costly. i guess the purpose in getting the system is to be able to plug in many appliances conveniently, without having to unplug, plug etc, so if not enough adaptors, like not making full use of it?
-
Hi doomsday thanks for your comments. You more or less size up everything so precisely! ha .. 3D .. even movies i also don't like. Maybe because I wear spects, so putting the 3D spects over my own spects is extremely uncomfortable - pure torture through the movie for me
-
Very stylish stuff you have! congrats on your keys collection, and hope to see more pix soon!
-
hi Ryooki I love your all-glass study! We are also planning somethiing like that - for the kitchen. can't quite figure from the pix - is it an oven under the hob? And two cabinets on the sides?
-
ha ha ha .. very funny .. forward to hubby liao. some more .. ?

unless hyflux have different systems? The one you saw is RO one is it? the $500 plus model has 2 cylinders to change - one carbon and one membrane. Just twist, dispose and fix new one. I think I will go for this bc hassle free - no washing dirty parts, auto water cut off when changing - best for lazy people like me! this is the model: http://www.hyfluxconsumer.com/product/view/4

no lah hyflux undersink $500plus
