I also got a contractor instead of ID. But I think some contractors are truly just contractors, you tell them what you want, they build for you. They do not dispense any other advice on practicality, functionality, colour scheme, etc. Unless the thing you want, or the way you want is not possible to be done. On the other hand, nowadays, there are many contractors who also double up as ID, who will give drawings and design. Many contractors now also offer packages, which includes items like hob, hood, aircon, grilles, sink etc. I met one contractor who would even go as far as buying the furniture for the owners. So end of the day, it really depends on what you want and how "involved" you want to be in the reno process. For me, though it's time consuming and taxing, we thoroughly enjoyed the receeing for appliances, researching on the design we like, not just aesthetically, but also practical and liveable.

hi mafacifa what scope of glass work do you plan to do? I am also sourcing for glass door and some mirror bc these are additional items not in my contract, and I am already way over the original figure. Do you mind sharing yr finding?

hey congrats, Zelly, for the official reno completion of yr place! Must be basking in satisfaction! wow, yr excess is almost 30% of yr original plan - that's alot! Quite scared now, bc I also happily ask contractor to add and add, wonder what will the final damage be like?
-
wah good idea - I seriously need some income after this big damage from reno and furnishing man!
-
wow, that's a very detailed update on yr banking experience. I also took a RHB loan, but think would not be able to pen down all these! btw would be looking forward to read about yr moving quotation. Do you have loads to move? I have been getting a few quotes of late, and my eyes have almost been set in that dangling position since! it's indeed costly to move!

hubby's theory is this - look big at first, but as days pass, it will become smaller and smaller ... that's when u will wish for a bigger set - time to upgrade!
-
u mean he got different shades of orange glass sample to choose from?
-
ya lor, the schedule my contractor said will give me. Before and early reno, i kept asking if schedule is ready, but answer is always not ready yet, will give. That time, it was understandable bc we signed the contract before we even got our keys, so even he has no idea when is the start date. But in the end, paiseh to keep asking. Besides since I go down everyday, I gave up asking for it altogether, after all I can see work done physically. That day I asked when is painting going to be done, he said according to schedule ?!?!? Maybe he "thought" he gave me?? Nowadays it has become guessing game liao - we sort of guess what's going to happen next, then go down to site to confirm our guess. If guess correctly, happy la. Also sort of using Joseng's style of asking "what's happening this week". That said, must still add that so far he's very responsive to our sms or calls, jsut that I feel paiseh to keep calling him for every single thought that passes through my mind. And we keep changing our mind about things, so feel bad to keep bugging him about these little changes.

hi sff you are back! finally yr reno is fully completed. Congrats - yr house is really nice! Lots of glass - I like! I almost can "feel' my completed house when looking at yr pics! I am also having lots of glass, alot orange glass in kitchen! how did u tell yr ID the kind of orange u wanted?
-
so the plan is to rebuild fernvale point on the same site? Hope they re build a bigger mall otherwise sure cannot cope with demand. Hope they build shelterd walkways from our blocks to the mall too!
-
oops, forgot u not in fernvale. what's yr distance between tv wall and sofa?
-
most likely 46" for hall. Most salespeople recommend 40 or 42 given the distance we have, but hubby actually wanted 50", so we kind of settle for in between. what about u?
-
what u mean consultation? if you don't meet yr ID during reno, then how does she coordinate the work for you? Or do you have to talk to the different sub con directly?
-
how often u meet yr contractor, Bearlyn? By appt or happen to bump into him on site? Joseng, what about you, when doing reno?
