  1. Does the contractor do a few rounds of cleeaning before HO? Mine said he will clean to "move-in" condition, but of course we still need to do more thorough round. Dunno what is the definition of move in condition? u want to see my kitchen ah? Hopefully if they work over the weekend, u can see what's it's like by monday or tuesday? or wanna wait till all complete then open house?
  2. wow congrats all ... all getting ready to move in liao! this month will be busy month for many .. these 2 days see alot of bridal cars!
  3. Fri, 10 Sept 2010 What happened to Photobucket today?? Have been having problem accessing the website - did anyone face this problem today? Anyway, so much has happened over the last few days. Since I can't upload the photos, will say give a brief update ... 1. Went down to JB to recee the bedding stuff and chairs etc. Managed to find the comforter sets for the girls, but no luck with the chairs, though we spent more than half a day checking out various furniture shops. 2. Also visited the factory at JB, wanted to see what it's like, plus see our cabinets work in progress - but no luck again, it was raining really heavily - we did find the place, but had to abort the idea of going in ... On the issue of comforter, need to ask a quick question. Do you use a comforter or a quilt cover? Is there any advantage of one over another? Our current one is a comforter, but we saw some nice designs which are quilt covers, ie we need to buy another quilt separately. 3. Finally, the laundry sink has been mounted on the other side. Thanks to the workers who managed to salvage the sink, I did not have to get another one. Now everything looks like it's in a proper order! 4. Door has been installed. It's a bitter-sweet feeling - happy since it's one step forward. But really sad bc we had wanted to have glass door so badly! Esp when we tried to close all the room doors, the whole passageway immediately looked so gloomy! IF we had installed glass doors, light can still pass through ... 5. Carpentry is in the house! We are seeing the real thing in real scale now! Looking at the initial stage in the carpentry work, can't help feeling unsure if the colours are ok? Is the space planning alright - bc after the cabinets are in place, the kitchen looks rather cramp now! Think only 2 people can work in the kitchen at a time, 3 is too many for comfort already! The focus of the whole reno had been on the kitchen, and the concept and design has largely been my idea. Pray hard that it will turn out nicely! 6. And met the highly recommended Mr Chew this afternoon. He came with a trolley full of fabric samples! After surveying the place and reviewing the paint/furnishing colours, he was quick to make recommendations. Good thing he did that, or we will be lost flipping through all the samples! After some 2 hours, we finally made our choices - yet another step closer to the completed product! Now I can't wait to see the curtains in 2 weeks' time! 7. Last, also decided that we should not procrastinate any further. We have spotted a particular super comfy lounge chair from Comfort for the longest time, but bc of the price, had wanted to recee more places in search for THAT piece of chair. Today, just under 3 weeks to tentative HO date, we finally accepted that we can't hold on any further, or we will be without chair after we move in. It feels great when a decision is made after a long research, and not on impulse. But the search for the round bar table and bar stools is still on ... anyone got lobang? that's it for now! Will upload pix once I can get through to photobucket!
  4. ha ha, think don't have brown colour ... but if u do find, please show pix!
  5. wow, this is cool confidence! So who is this lucky person? All the best in yr reno journey!
  6. ha ha .. we all same same ... ks singapore
  7. june, have been wanting to ask but kept forgetting. how's yr aircon prob? settled liao or not?
  8. thanks! ya, think will turn this into a family project .. daughter is now hooked already and cutting out various pictures to decorate her room. They also request for more colours, so tomorrow will go get more .. .
  9. to play safe, u better double the hook strength, either use a stronger hook or use 2 hooks side by side
  10. mirror from GR Link. bar etc frm Poh Seng. Actually GR also has bars, but a bit more limited. how to know ss ah? Honestly, I have no answer. Of course the salespeple will say ss, will not rust etc etc. It's yi fen qian yi fen huo, so since can't afford the chicken brand, got to settle for the china-made ones la. But I guess even the worst quality can last a few yrs right? If need to, then change again lor. Since we did not do any works in the toilets, just go simple first ba, then maybe few years down, accumulate more $, then hack off and do hotel-theme toilet huh?
  11. could be QC during the earlier batch and new batch different? like the old appliances eg washing machine can last us for more than 10 yrs, nowadays, can tahan 3 years tou xiao already! not tried the tape for wet surface, but like insane, I have been using 3M for hanging pictures and photos. They stay for years and years, never had any problem. The only time we had to remove them was when we want to change the position of the pix
  12. Mon, 6 Sept 2010 my laundry sink - re-positioned! watched the entire process today - not easy - worker took the whole day to do this -
  13. Mon, 6 Sept 2010 received 3 deliveries today ... some boring pix oven hob hood
  14. sorry mine just delivered today niao, so can't comment yet. don't pull yr hair, will share my hunting experience with you. hood My initial research on RT leads me to 2 brands - rinnai and fujioh, with fujioh's oil catch feature leading. So I was all set for that till my hubby saw it. His comments were .. so bulky, u sure u want to unscrew that thing and clean the whole metal panel? vs the usual ones where we just have to remove the filter to clean/change? The salesman allowed me to try, and true enough it's quite cumbersome. Although many said that no need to remove whole panel, just take out the oil catchment tray will do. But still at some stage, will need to do overall cleaning right? general consensus is also that chimney type has better absorption than the slim line. But I was against chimney, bc I treasure the space above the hood. Again hubby pointed out a very true fact. In our old place, we had a slim line hood, with cabinet above. The cabinet, however, was so oily and so inaccessible that at the end of the day, I ended not using it! so that's how we came to a decision to go for chimney after all. As for brand, we were clueless, but was recommended brandt by salesman. I guess at that time, we have reached a very sian of receeing stage, so just went ahead to order. Since we had the assurance that we can change our order, plus the lowest price guarantee ... plus it was getting close to carpentry stage and we really had to firm up ... hob I think this is easier - how many burners do u need? arrangement of the burner? glass vs s/s? rinnai and fujioh has inner fire, but do u need that? other than that, it's really whether aesthetics matter to u a lot? for us, since we were sold to the brandt hood, we also took the same brand hob. One plus point of this hob is that when we remove the metal rings etc, there is no hole below so no chance for food to drop into the cavities - something which we had problem with in the old place. hth
  15. very easy one .. just go to those fish shop to buy the sticky paper - comes in various colours, and not costly. Beats buying those decals which are so ex. Now no budget liao so must do more hands on stuff, and BIG advantage is u can have yr own design! Go try!
  16. wait u attract all the kids to come press yr bell ...
  17. oh, that's bad! I thought that brand is quite reliable. Only reason we decided against it is bc their range not complete. Actually I have used their range for hanging pictures etc, and works really great for a long long time. Maybe this "wet" product, they need more research ba so what are you using now? drill type or still stick on?
  18. the black/clear mirror one is 60 x 90cm, while the other one is 50 x 70 (or 80)cm. Sorry the second one I forgot the height. u looking for just mirror or something with storage? We did not want storage bc in old house, we never did use those space. We liked these two pieces because they come complete with the glass panels, so no need to drill more holes to install that. Yes, in the end, decided against 3M, so guess it's drill drill drill. Part plastic part s/s bc if we use 3M towel bar = plastic toilet roll holder etc = s/s so in the end want to standardise so all go for s/s We bought: 1 pc 3' towel bar 3 pc 2' towel bar 2 clothes hanger for behind the door 2 toilet roll holder Total $115. Of course quality wise cannot compare with the chicken brand lah, but for this price, cannot complain too much.
  19. we received a letter from hdb stating that the gate provided is safe, as long as we bolt up. So maybe they are aware of this fellow ... agree with u .. he did the same to us too .. did not want to leave his contact no, walked off quite abruptly when he did not get us to ok right away ... that was what triggered us into thinking of installing an alarm system lor
