  1. honestly, this sound thing is not a necessity for me - but certainty a need for hubby - think same scenario for most families right? we did try out the syst in harvey in their sound room - the salesman set up a few for us to audition - to hubby, this is good, but to me, all the same one! ha ha, harvey quoted us 1699 for this syst, u think adelphi got better buys? Prob is although hubby loves the have this surround sound and stuff, he is also not technically equipped, so are quite afraid that the adelphi shops will carrot us. Salespeople love to throw all the tech jargon, and for us quite pai seh to ask also ... any good and honest shop in adelphi to recommend?
  2. hello u guys seems like the sound system expert. Hubby and myself total noob, would appreciate some advice. Can check if the onkyo 608 is a good one? Was at Harvey last week and salesman packaged a onkyo 608 with the jamo speakers - forgot which model for speakers, but it's the small wall mount ones. According to him, this system is mid range, low price with professional sound effect, and can be upgraded to some stuff (did not quite understand but pai seh to ask lah) in future. True or not?
  3. sorry dunno. he is the only one we contacted. or before asking mr chew, u can try go to those curtain shops to get a rough quote first, based on floor plan? So at least u get an idea if his price is good or otherwise? Nonetheless, I'm sure quotations are non obligatory right? Surely the customers have the right to accept or reject?
  4. yup, he needs to come to yr house to quote. He will have to see wall and furnishing etc colours, amount of light in the room etc before making recommendation of fabric and colour. Unless of course, u already know exactly what you want ... That is also why we feel comfortable with his recommendation, bc he will lift up the fabric and hold them in front of the window so that we can physically see the end result I am not sure if he can quote based on floor plan or number of windows though ..
  5. wow, envy envy envy .. such alot of space you have! have not been very on-the-ball with following t-blogs here, but this is def one that is not to be missed! btw I read yr post on yr laminated glass door. All that rectified?
  6. oops, think it's bearlyn. Sorry I mistaken liao. good idea. now looks like i have to visit u first instead of vice versa
  7. how do we tell if an item labelled as tempered glass is really tempered glass? was looking for table with glass top. Some tables have the word tempered glass engraved in it - so presumably these are real? some table top have the sticker with the word "tempered' pasted. Are these really tempered? Any way for us to tell the difference before committing to a purchase?
  8. mr chew 9653 4689 for damage, check yr pm
  9. actually cannot trust those stickers one. bc my toilet plumber saw sticker, tried to avoid pipe by installing bidget at a distance from sticker, and yet kanah spot on! If only 4D so lucky!
  10. Tue, 14 Sept 2010 Renovation Met contractor today, was hopeful that he can HO earlier than the previously set date since most of the things seems to be almost done. But was told a xxxx sian news that HO - confirmed - 25/9. So now I have to reschedule my mover and deliveries! The part I dread most is staying on in the rental room. It's so strange - we've been there for a good 2 months plus, and we have never experienced the stay in any negative light. But somehow, once we are told that we can vacate by a certain date, each day seems like a year! And now, we have to re-countdown! OMG, 11 days to go! At the site today - mostly carpentry work. MBR wardrobe is done, and now the concentration is in the kitchen and some small works in the hall. Think all these should be complete by tomorrow. What's left now will be the granite top, glass, mirror, marble polish, parquet and door varnish, some plumbing work bc of the re-position of the laundry sink ... and we are done! Purchases After going round and round different shops and warehouses in various housing estates, sungei kadut, defu, macpherson and many more .. we have finally placed an order for all the furnishing for our girls' rooms - wardrobe , bookshelf, study table, mattress, computer table, chairs, - all from the same shop! Showed them the bill - and they exclaimed "wow so much ah" - hmm , i'm glad they know it's burnt our pocket, so hope they will take care of them! Lucky girls - everything new .. like cny! Forgot what was the last update, but also managed to secure the order for 2 lounge chairs and 2 bar stools, again from the same shop. Outstanding Over the last two days, we went from Harvey, to Best Denki, Gain city, Courts and tomorrow will be Mega - in search of hubby's dream tv. His first wish was a sumsung 3D 55" LED - but 3D tech too new - OUT Next wish was a sumsug 55" LED - but too big - OUT Third wish was a sumsung 46" LED - but went to Harvey, and was recommended a Hitachi 47" LED instead. After walking back and forth between the two sets, I had to agree with the saleslady - that the Sumsung LED was a little glaring and uncomfortable for the eyes, though the colours are alot more vibrant and brighter. So now I am strongly advising him to think seriously - for the sake of our girls' eyes ... he is now super sian ... keep downgrading his wish set Portable aircon - yes, went to Gain City and saw the aircon that flamedav was talking about. Though not the best, but seems a likely option for the kitchen ... but a bit worried about the consumption and maintenance Bar Table - seems there is not many options on this one. Saw a very simple one in a shop in JB, but still keeping our eyes open in case we can spot one in singapore Dining set - due to budget constraints, decided that we will still try t use the existing one first - hopefully no accidents - to see if it's workable .. Mover - this time we engaged the Helping Hands, again since they are highly recommended in RT. Plus it's giving them a second chance. Hope everything will turn out well .. hmm ... what else is there that I miss out?
  11. yr walls are purple? or furnishing is purple? wah purple is in colour ah?
  12. kill all with one stone .. chang tong bu ru duan tong ...
  13. wah, that's all thanks to Mr chew's recommendations. At first we attempted to flip through the samples to make selection, but later give up and just him to recommend ... headache, so many types to choose and match! for nite curtains, he recommended the lighter shade so as to bring out the colour of the day curtain, so we jsut said ok .. actually we wanted the organza, but again he said organza not much effect, so ... i pm u price in a while
  14. yup yup, hubby says sometimes cannot be too ngiaw - bc when contractor do something may have reason. Ask him to rectify, later regret ... so just accept lor, after all, not all that obvious ...
  15. ha ha .. for us, Mr chew recommended this dark dark good to sleep ... btw Mr chew seems to be really super busy. Heard that he just rejected two when I met him last week ...
  16. just to add also. Our current chair has legs on the 4 corners, but we are thinking of getting somethiing with legs in the centre. In this way, more people can sit round the table, even at the corners without the table legs blocking. But downside is, cannot stretch leg bc will kick the centre support ... hai, why can't they design something that can solve both sets of probs ... like suspended table??
  17. ha ha, Mr chew recommended this for girls' bedroom so that they can sleep late on weekends - more than 80% block off sunlight woh! Think sleep till afternoon also no prob!
  18. why u don't think can meet 21/9? Ask yr ID for a more definite date, otherwise very hard to organise delivery ... for me, I am arranging deliveries all on 25/9, and mover also coming in 25/9 ... I need many "me"! ok, though I am very sian liao, I still can spare you some "oil" - jia you ah!
  19. oh thanks, I do remember seeing this in yr blog, but slipped my mind. Saw those chairs from gnee hong too - very nice and comfy. Our old dining set comes with metal legs, so we are looking for something less heavy and smaller bc our space is quite limited. Also , we were afraid the chair legs will break the mirror ... so search for dining chair is still on....
  20. i pm u ok? But honestly, Mr Chew is the one and only one I contacted for the curtains. Just took the recommendation from fellow forumers, so I'm also not sure if good price or not? I'm basically losing steam liao ...
  21. ha ha ha .. put chair at entrance to frighten off intruders just met contractor this afternoon, got to postpone HO date - now it's 25/9 - sian - can't wait for all these to end ... about the tiles, that's our dilemma also. If that whole area is parquet, afraid that will damage parquet when wash toilet, but if like current condition, a bit weird. Anyway we have decided to just accept it, too tired to do any more rectification liao - just want reno to finish and move in - all the receeing is really zapping our energies!
  22. ok will sms u again when i go in weekend
