  1. ha ha .. I also never hear any bird, maybe that's blk D? But hear lots of dogs barking though! I have no prob with dogs, just that when you hear one barking, the others quickly join in to form some sort of orchestra, then before long, baby wails will follow. June, you have similar experience?
  2. hi fong not used the EF hood or hob, but used to own an EF front load washer. Within less than 2 yrs, motherboard is damaged and since it's already not under warranty, we had to get it changed at our expense. Changing motherboard is like buyiing another machine, but since we were already going to move, we thought just do it and tahan for a while. But again, within a few months of changing the board, it's slowly showing signs of "something is wrong". After that, dare not buy that brand anymore.
  3. imo, if only doing light cooking, no real need for a hood. But then again, may be good to install one just in case your needs and preferences change. In any case, you can buy a slim line hood. This way, you will not compromise on the top cabinet space.
  4. hey hey neighbour-to-be welcome and good luck for yr ID search! and def looking forward to yr postings!
  5. really? $4 for the regular plate of 10 or kiddy portion? I did not know about this too
  6. hey hey Cool choice of colour for the glass backing - my choice too!

  8. kovan food centre - the recently upgraded one. level 1, stall 57. One of the best wantan mee i have eaten. or if you like the malaysian type with the black sauce, there is one in the same food centre too
  9. interesting thread. but makes me hungry reading it this time of the night! how about roasting veg along with the chicken? or coleslaw?
  10. based on my reno, it's 1. electrician 2. aircon 3. gas pipe 4. plumbing 5. kitchen cement base 6. false ceiling 7. painting 8. carpentry 9. glass works of course, to speed things up, some items can be done con-currently, esp if they involve different parts of the house.
  11. another negative point on going ala carte is finger pointing by the different sub con when something goes wrong. A contractor or ID serves as an overall coordinator, so if anything goes wrong, there is only one person to go after. Sometimes you may need the same sub-con to return to do different parts of their job, and each trip means extra $ also. So imo, getting an overall coord saves us alot of sanity . Of course, unless the owner is very familiar with reno work, what to look out for etc, then should be ok to do on own. Or, if the amount of work needed is very little, then certainly no point engaging an ID.
  12. hey marshmellow very well said, and very true too! You need to use the place to know what you want and need - we got a no-brand dish drainer too! Our belief is always - for build in things, get a more reliable one because may be troublesome to change, and more restricted choices in future, but for stand-alone items, nvm, spoil then got excuse to change new things mah
  13. nice decals, berry! I did some DIY too, but had a hard time sticking them on the glass. did you use soapy water? or just remove backing and stick?
  14. it's like that - I kept changing our mind/plan also, so much so that our contractor said ni men han di er, mei you ren gan shuo di yi, simply translated means "if you are number two, nobody can say they are number 1" Though may be "fan" for yr ID, still need to say, otherwise if the work has already been done, how? aiyoh, how can he say he is getting impatient? Surely he can understand that is normal - being house owners wanting the best! we also had this dilemma. If you have a work schedule, that's best so at least you can see if he has gone behind time. For us, no schedule. Also don't want to call him everyday to ask, as if we are trying to chase him to complete. Anyway, we had the time to make daily trips, so we can see the progress for ourselves. As long as there is progress, we are ok. For any work done that we do not understand or when we need to discuss some change of plans etc, then we sms him to discuss or meet up if necessary.
  15. another point to consider - rainshower equal higher water bill lor. That's another reason why we decided not to install it Plus for the new BTO, the hand shower that has been installed has quite a big showerhead. So we are ok with that too. You might want to study the one you have before installing?
  16. Review on Comfort Design This story is long overdue - regretted not writing this down sooner, because I have since forgotten some details about this company. We loved visiting the showroom, because the girls can hop around the great variety of chairs, some of which are really really comfortable. We loved the atmosphere there too, and considered them as chair specialist. Since our living room is rather minute, we decided not to get a full set sofa, but to go for single seats. Since there were not many such in the furniture shops that we hunted, we decided to order 2 lounge chairs and 2 bar stools from them - the chair specialist. After waiting more than a month, the stocks finally arrived , but we were so disappointed because they came with defects . The chairs had very visible scratches on the metal parts, and the paint works for the bar chairs were even peeling off. Without a doubt, the stocks were rejected. When the second delivery was made few days later, again same issues, at the same spot. Since they had no other stocks, we had to wait for another month for the next round of delivery! Imagine that! After some discussion, we decided to accept the two lounge chairs because we were getting really sick of the whole thing, and wanted to settle into the new house in a positive note. However, the condition of the bar stools were really bad, decided to cancel that part of the order. Luckily, they agreed and also gave a little discount on the lounge chairs as a friendly gesture. On the whole, we still love the seats - super comfortable - can really sink into them and fall asleep at the end of the day. I am sure as the days pass, we will forget about the scratch marks. But at the moment, we were just a little dissatisfied that this is the kind of standard they delivered. Being chair specialist does not mean their goods come void of all defects, despite the nasty price tag - that is one lesson we have learnt - cheap and good does not go together, but expensive does not always mean perfect too. That said, still must give the positive side of the company. The sales executive was very helpful through the whole process, trying all he could to "clean up" the defects, and sincerely apologetic for the inconveniences blah blah blah. The only thing I did not like is the way they "treat" the chairs. We showed up at the showroom after rejecting the first round, because we wanted to talk to them about the defects. Saw the returned chair "sun-tanning" outside the workshop! Well, perhaps these chairs are really dirt cheap, and price being marked up a few hundred % for consumers ... Ha ha, I said I wanted to give a positive side, but still ended with a negative ... perhaps I should write another positive? To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction so no need to say anymore ...
  17. thanks dexufto! Yup, though time consuming, it's fun to make yr own decals - can choose whatever design you fancy, and you can be sure that that is the one and only piece! I absolutely love to do whatever DIY I can to shape up the house slowly. How's yr reno coming along? Yours is a major revamp right?
  18. oh .. is blum hard to install? I thought all these fixtures are quite standard?
  19. thanks 15may! I love the space too, only regret is not enough lighting. Anyway, can't ask for too much lah. as for the bar, actually you can still get a carpenter to fix one. Maybe ask yr ID to add because dangerous when opening the cabinet?
  20. hey, no prob, bearlyn. how's everyone? long time never read RT liao. You brought yr wife walk walk and explore kayu already? She now second trimester? If so, this is the best time to move around, wait third tri like big watermelon, very lei cheh to be mobile! Enjoy!
  21. hi perfect10 thanks for yr compliments. Yes, blum is great (at least for me), though there are several other brands of the same mechanism, some cost more, some less. for us, contractor supplies a korean brand soft closing, inclusive in the price, but we opted to go for blum, with an additional top up. Warranty is for life, I believe. Blum has a showroom at Ubi. You can go and test out the various systems and see for yourself. Of course after that, be prepared for yr pocket to bleed ha ha
  22. I think rainshower can only go with storage heater or gas heater.
  23. luckily those down the chute are disjointed, else out of the chute door, up to low floor and the story repeats ...
  24. thanks insane ya, orange glass. shocking right? yup, holes are made on the glass (i think is before send for tempering) blum - not bad, so much so we now have the habit to bang the door, so next time go people's house, start banging door but if can servos, even better lor ... dream on If I have the choice, toilet sink also do undermount. Find it very easy to clean, and nothing trap between sink and worktop - just "sweep eveything down the hole"
