  1. Hmm, thought fabric is less dusty than leather, b'coz you can vacuum a fabric sofa. Mine is vacuumed once a week, to get rid of fur, mostly. Been using microsuede - quite spill resistant, and not warm to sit on. Best of all, doesn't scratch (important for those with pets). Also love covers that can be completely removed to be washed (like during CNY spring cleaning.. lol). But really all boils down to needs & preference.
  2. MEN!!! Back on the subject of ceiling fans, they do seem quite popular these days. Ne0 - might be worth considering, if only to keep the air-conditioning bill low. Especially if you're like titanax - very scared of heat. Unless your place is very windy, then maybe no need. Yeah, I agree with Ne0 - get a schedule of works from the contractor so you will know how things are going. Some items will also need to be bought in time for some parts of the works too, I think, so scheduling is important. Oh, I certainly don't agree that cats are cold and calculating, just misunderstood. Fifi is very affectionate - she will come up to me and ask for rubs and scratches, and sometimes kneads my leg (ouch). Think the personality counts for a lot, though yes, the age you get them is a factor too. Some breeds are also supposedly more affectionate the others. My sister's American Curls are very affectionate. Between cats and dogs though, I think dogs in general win hands down on the affection scale. Woof.
  3. Yo Jaskel, So when will we see the designs? Last week you say this week... Would be good to see the Google Sketch up - we've got some ideas for colour. Heh heh. Think you know our style - we don't like to leave things to the last minute, so that there is enough time to make changes/rectification if necessary. This way we don't create unnecessary stress - for us, but more importantly for you! Can't have you taking too many panadols, not good for you.
  4. Heya, Nope, haven't quite gotten around to it yet. Lol.
  5. Hey there! Grats on starting your T-blog. Nice squarish layout you got there. Hey, cool. Another blog where both hubby and wifey post. Looking forward to updates, and here's wishing you both a smooth and fun reno journey!
  6. Grats! Finally your T-blog is up. Hey, you forgot the very first thing you're supposed to put up here - your floorplan. Oh, yes, the round balcony, quite near the MRT. What you gonna do with the round balcony??? LOL.. just a difference of few months and we could've been neighbours - we are nearer to Canberra Sec Sch. Ok, wishing you a smooth reno journey.
  7. Yo yo yo, Welcome back. Was wondering why you went quiet all of a sudden. Wow, you sure are juggling quite a few things. Hang in there! Glad your 1st appt was smooth. Ours was generally okay (see my earlier post on it), except for a minor hiccup. But s'all good. Can't believe that in less than a month we'll have to say goodbye to the little place we've called home for the last 7 yrs - our first home. Feeling a bit nostalgic.
  8. Yup, totally agree that stand fans take up too much space. Also bit bit unwieldy to use. Due to the lack of ceiling fans, we bought a stand fan, and it moves from room to room with us when the weather's really hot. A bit troublesome but bo pian. Hmm, your living room is quite long - maybe 2 aircons would be better than 1. This way you could also cool one side faster than the other, depending on which side you're at. Single blower will have to work harder. My 2 cents. Good on you for giving Cece a home. Oh, Tinker has a kink at the end of his tail too, but he's so fluffy you can't really see it. Winterfire (or more affectionately known as Fifi) will be 5 years old in July Hey, Elaine, Wen Wen and Cece are quite similar in colour. Strange how that turns out huh? Both my cats just happen to be grey! Tinker's outer coat is grey, but has a white fluffy undercoat. Yeah, we like Fifi's coat - we chose her from a litter of 5 for it, as we were showing her at cat shows. She looks like a little tiger... grrr... Love those stripes. Here's a better picture of Tinker - only his face shows in that picture of him in the WIW. Here's one of my favourite photos of Fifi and my mini schnauzer Pepper (who passed away last May - she was also grey!). Btw, this wasn't a posed picture. Pepper was napping, Fifi came right along and plonked herself right next to Pepper for a little cat nap. Hee hee.
  9. Hey Yuene, We made the mistake of not having ceiling fans in our current place, so will be having those in the new one. Will also have aircon in all the rooms though I have a bit of a sinus problem too, but the hubby cannot sleep w/o aircon, so no choice. Solution for sinus- nasal spray! Works wonders. Our new living/dining area in the new place is also fairly large. Will be installing a ceiling fan in the living room. We swung from NOT having aircon in that area, now to having a big *** blower (about 26,000) which is also more to be used when entertaining. Think in your case case it'll depend on where you position your two aircons - too close and it probably would look weird. I too don't like the idea of standing fans or wall mounted fans. Think in terms of air circulation ceiling fans are still the best. On a fuzzier note - Cecilia is so cute!! What breed is she? How about your other two cats? Heh heh - once you have one pet, you usually end up with more. We have two cats (you can see them in our 'Moments of OM' blog - linked in my signature). My dream would be to have a floor to ceiling cat tree for them, but doubt I can convince the hubby to give up that much space for a cat tree. Heh heh.
  10. Welcome to RT Hey, lots of yummy food near Upper Cross Street! Esp in the Hong Lim hawker centre. Looking fwd to your floorplan and pix.
  11. Yeah, the timing issue can be very tricky. Esp for those of us who are selling then buying - and our buyers/sellers are also selling then buying too. My housing agent called this the 'yi tiao long' (one dragon) type of transaction. Realised that having an experience housing agent is very important - can be the difference between a smooth and fuss free selling/buying experience, or one that is stressful. But hey, things have worked out for you - grats on the start of hacking works at your place!
  12. Hey, this is a really cool way to make the bathroom bigger. Nicely done!
  13. Hi there. Grats on your new purchase. Where is it located? Hmm, not sure if that deposit thing is a new practice they have. Since you have time, you can evaluate IDs/contractors at leisure. Doesn't hurt to have more options. Good luck and have fun.
  14. Yeah, there are pros and cons for WIW, or non-WIW. Acutally one of the IDs we spoke to suggested a WIW for us too but it would have made the overall room look smaller, plus the cabinet length would have been much shorter (12 feet) than if we'd just gone with a regular wardrobe along one wall (17 feet - see picture). Since it's so long we're gonna do 'His' and 'Hers' - i.e. I only have to keep my side nice and tidy. Heh heh heh.
  15. Hee hee, yeah, I know - before you know it, the 8 weeks will have passed, then the 3 weeks extension. Waiting is just something most of us aren't very good at! Oh, what happened in your case - the extension wasn't enough? Hope it turned out okay! No prob on the season parking thingy. Was quite amused and amazed that it's so simple yet so complicated. Will be cursing and swearing during Jul and Aug when we have to park at the next carpark and walk back (cross one street, then cut across a few blocks), esp when its raining. Nevermind, the extra exercise will do us good.
  16. Hey, this 'Aaaaaaahhh' feeling seems to be contagious! But you're right. Think the most important is the feel. Eh, titanax zhong du BIG time okay. He was still surfing the net on the knives past midnight last night... my eyes all droopy already Yup, points scored.
  17. That's the worrying part... titanax is having a sudden fetish for german knives - he's looking at the wusthof classic ikon
  18. Love the looking you got going there - white plus sort of a pine colour them. NICE! The study is very cosy. Less carpentry is good - in case you need the space for other things in the future. Oh, I totally understand what you mean about the husbands continuing with their 'handsome' sleep. Not going to have WIW for the new place - the hubby is already worried about me disturbing his beauty sleep as i get ready for work. GRRR...
  19. Went for our 1st appointment today. Now begins the loooong, looooooong, looooooooooong eight week wait till the 2nd appointment. Plus, we had agreed to give the sellers a 3-week extension to allow them to get their new place ready. It may not sound like a big deal, but to us it means - 3 weeks more of being 'homeless' and living out of boxes - 3 weeks extra for paid storage - 3 weeks 'delay' in starting reno. But since it was a condition in the sale, we said ok. Then today, they asked for 3 more days. Sounds trivial, but it means 3 more days of delay! Our agent had already forewarned their agent that the timing has to be arranged 'swee swee'. Plus, their agent cited 'stress' as one of the reasons for asking for the extension. Seriously??? What if 3 days becomes 4 days, becomes 5 days... grrr... Anyway, to cut a long story short, we'll get our keys in the 2nd week of Sep. Also went to the HDB Area office to sort out the issue of season parking. Boy it is complicated!! First we have to transfer our existing season parking to another carpark. The carpark of choice is a 'controlled' carpark (quota filled by residents), and there were no more lots of Jul or Aug. We have to take the next nearest carpark for those 2 months, then try our luck for Sep. And because it's such a complicated process, we can't do it online (yeah, you can transfer your season parking via the HDB website using your Singpass, so convenient!), which means two more trips to the Area Office. Luckily the lady who served us at the Area Office was very patient and nice, and even drew us a timeline. Lol. So, in the meantime, it's back to the hunt for furniture, sinks, sanitary ware, etc... Counting down the days till Sep...
  20. WOW. That is a BIG MBR. Lol. Can even squeeze in a big WIW.. hmmm........Bedroom 3 is a bit small though. Trying not to do so much hacking this time round. One of the best things about this unit is the sense of space when you first walk in (i.e. the living and dining)... there is er.. "AAAAAAAH"... type of feeling. Hee hee hee.
  21. Hey gals_mama, Grats on getting your keys! Can feel your excitement. Heh heh. Now the most fun part begins. Yup, for power and water you can do a 'transfer', which according to my housing agent is immediate. Didn't expect it to be so fuss-free. Hey, your marble flooring looks great! Good thing you decided to keep it. The colour is nice (grey and white), it's much easier to match. Think if you maintain it well, it will look gorgeous for years too come. Looking forward to your 3d drawings.
  22. Heya, Love that little shelf in the bathroom. Is it made of ceramic tile? Thanks!
  23. Ha, wouldn't be the first time...
