  1. Congrats on HO! So happy for you. This really is the last lap... must take pix again when all your furniture is in. Yar, the cleaning is no joke! Took a few days off the last time round before the move. Siong man. This time round will consider using those cleaning companies to do the post-reno cleaning. Thanks. Hmm, cats scratching furniture is not exactly a myth. They DO need do scratch, so must train to use scratch post. The older one, the Persian is generally okay, but has scratch parts of the dining chairs. The younger one, the Brisit Shorthair has learned to use the scratch post from the older one, so very 'gwai', no furniture incidents. Heh. Yup, looking forward to the dream home taking shape. One step at a time...
  2. Yeah, totally agree. Practicality comes first. Especially if you're the one who will end doing the cleaning.
  3. Heh.. true. The more 'tao' ones like my Persian will give you that 'yes, you are blessed to be in my presence.. now feed me treats' kind of look. Hahah. Cats and dogs both have their own kind of charm And they aren't natural enemies - like portrayed in the movies. My dog and two cats got along okay. Ideally, would love to raise a puppy and kitty who are the same age - if brought up together they can be great pals - sleep, eat and play together. 1 .. 2.. 3... awwww.....
  4. heh heh.. but who can resist a puppy? Those little puppy dog ears, and puppy dog eyes, and little puppy paws... and happy puppy wagging tail...
  5. Eeeks. You have my sympathies! That stupid YOG song is the WORST thing to ever come out of Singapore! Worse than kiasu-ism, kiasi-ism and banning of chewing gum. I change the channel whenever I see it on TV. You should write into the Town Council and complain - and if they don't respond, write to the press. Haha.
  6. yeah, those new plushy rugs look very nice, but i'm also scared of fur getting trapped, and worst, dust (highly allergic to dust). Plus worried about maintenance - can just throw into washing machine? Or need to dry clean, or just vacuum? Sounds like too much work leh...
  7. Hi there, welcome to RT Grats on selecting your ID - the biggest and usually most difficult decision in the reno process. Wishing you a smooth reno journey! btw, are you a Wagner fan?
  8. Hello there neighbour, welcome to RT. Where in Semb are you? Nice woody feel design - yeah, as Samgalz said - do share some 'before' pix too.
  9. Oooh.. I LURVE his shows. Heh heh. The cooking is fun to watch of course, but the drama, oh the drama.. lol.. H'ells Kitchen Season 6 was the best! The hubby is also very inspired to want to cook more - I told him I'll get him a Gordon Ramsey apron to wear. Heh heh heh. Got a lot of Border's vouchers - will make a trip there once the house is almost ready and go on a cook book buying spree!
  10. Counting down to having to move out of Sembawang... 15 days... Two more weekends... We've put in about 5 days of solid packing - back breaking, sneeze inducing (for me) manual labour! - but at least we've done all the rooms, including the much dreaded storeroom/bomb shelter. Last stop - the kitchen. It feels very surreal, watching your life go into little boxes. It's also incredible, the amount of junk you can collect over the years! At last count, we've dumped about 12 bags of stuff (those black garbage bags), given away 5 bags of clothes, 1 bag of shoes, 1 bag of soft toys (my fault for hoarding some of these. heh heh), an old pet crate and two boxes of random items. As we sift through the things, deciding to what to throw (anything you haven't seen/touched in 6 months, that you've probably forgotten about GOES!), what goes into storage and what is still needed, you wonder - do I define the things I want, that make me, well, me? Or is it the other way around - the things I keep define me? Hmm. Either way, this move is a good chance to get rid of clutter, and a chance to start afresh. It's also a bit nostalgic - this was our first home together after getting married, and we've been here for 7 years. A lot of happy memories here - especially of my furbaby Pepper (our mini Schnauzer), who lived with us here for 5 years before she passed. The house looks like a maze with boxes all over now. Two more weekends to go... Time to make some new memories.
  11. Going to invest in cookbooks of a couple of chefs we really like and really expand our repertoire. Especially bake dishes and roasts, as well as desserts (watch a few Nigella cook shows and you'll be itching to make desserts too). So looking forward to using the new sexy kitchen stuff. Heh heh.
  12. Hey hey, Actually they aren't that ex. The block set costs about the same as the Henckel block set at Takashimaya (though the Henckel set comes with more knives), so each Wusthof costs a little more, but are a better buy. Yup, definitely got the 'aaaaaah' feeling. The chef knife is for the CHEF (me). The Santoku is for the SOUS CHEF (the hubby). Heh heh. The Sous Chef has to do more heavy duty cutting (i.e. all the cutting the chef doesn't like to do), so he needs a bigger knife. Mwahaha.
  13. Hey, the place looks almost new - pretty well maintained. Now for the million dollar question - are you keeping the MBR colour??? heh heh heh And now the fun begins...
  14. Hubby sprung a big surprise on me yesterday - my very first set of German knives! Whoo hoooo... This is the basic Wusthof Ikon Classic block set. It comes with - 8" Chef's Knife - 6" Utility Knife - 3 1/2 " Paring Knife - Shears - 9" Steel Sharpener Also came with the bamboo Wusthof 8" x 12" chopping board, and a knife sharpener. Picked up the chef's knife and went 'Aaaaaah'. Heh heh. The weight is just right, and the grip feels good in the hand. They look so sexy also! Close up of the logo on the blade of the chef's knife: Close up of the end of the handle: The three lovely knives on the bamboo board: Hmm... all I'm missing now is a Santoku, cleaver and steak knives...
  15. Oooooh... so cute!! They look so cute together. How big is your alaskan now? Love his colouring
  16. The drawer pedestal's dimensions: W 40cm x D 59 cm x H 71cm We will use one, preferably flushed under the study table in between the chairs.
  17. Naah, its' okay. Don't wanna trouble you. That black and white theme you got going is classy. And was very tickled by the photo of your trunking - to show how gigantic it is with the 1/2" insulation. Guess once it's painted over it'll be less obvious. Can't wait to see pix of your wall paper once it's up.
  18. Hey there, Is that a "pillar tap"? Can you attach the hose directly, or it needs some kind of attachment? Have that problem in the current place - can't really affix the rubber hose onto the tap (not like in the good old days, when you can just jam the hose onto the tap. Haha). Bought a plastic attachment thing but it doesn't work well, the water keeps leaking. Am thinking of putting this tap thingy in my new common bathroom too, for washing clothes, filling pails etc. Esp since I'm getting a mixer without the bar spout.
  19. Hee hee, I meant 'no need for ROUND corners', but I think you got it. LOL. No lah, cannot buy so much panadol for jaskel. No good for him. Nevermind, everytime Jaskel feels stress coming on, just have to lend him titanax's MAGIC calculator... heh heh heh
  20. Oooh, they do?? Heh heh heh. Seriously though, we like the whole square/rectangle concept. For e.g. our downlights will be square, we'll look for a square hanging dining light. Possible to make the corners of the bed more squarish, but not so sharp? Just round them off a little little bit? Don't worry about the rest of the house - no need for corners. Don't have to press your calculator until it spoils okay?
  21. Jaskel, you are my FAVOURITE magician!!!
  22. Hey hey, No problem. Like what you did with the platform, especially the rounded corners. Our current one has square corners, 'langah' a few times already. Ouch. Hmm.. your rounded corners now got us thinking if there can be rounded corners elsewhere in the house... TV console, maybe?? Hmmm.... Kitchen cabinet?? Hmmm.....
  23. Woah, grats! But yeah, timing is not so great. Is it her first litter? What breed are they? @ne0 - the amount of fur is not dependent on whether it's a dog or cat, but the breed. Mine was a mini schnauzer, doesn't shed. But I have a Persian (long fur, so you can imagine), and a British short hair (dense fur, not long, but shed a lot). Can't remember the last time I left the house without some kind of fur on my clothes. Plus, as you can see from my other blog (Moments of OM), my Persian loves to climb into my wardrobe. Oh, and take cat naps on the sofa. Ha ha. So, bo pian, we have to vacuum the sofa every week. @pinktini - Hee hee, the small one sounds naughty. How old is he/she? But agree with matashi - new pups will be naughty. Especially if they are testing their limits and haven't established the pecking order in the pack.
  24. Hey there, We'll be bringing our two existing drawer pedestals along, so we don't need you to include drawers in the design. Just need to make sure that the study table will accomodate the existing drawer pedestal. Haha, yes, I like to cross my legs while working, where as titanax prefers to put his legs ON the table. As for the rest of the design, sent you an e-mail. Too long to include here.
