  10. Location: Balcony Plan: To make in an "arty farty" cool hang out place for me & hubby. Using 30 by 60 black tiles. walls painted greystone. Paint the ugly pipe in the corner black. Actually the pipes were one of the reasons why i was hesitant on hacking the balcony. Before: After: thoughts: i don't think the look can be achieved as yet without any soft furnishings, but i like the look... its turning out like we hoped! Wonder what the oldies will have to say about the colour of the tiles
  11. well it is dark.. but for a small area like the balcony it should be alright i think. i'll be uploading the pics to my blog soon, u can take a look..
  12. heyyy!! I got the same tiles for my balcony.. turned out really well

  14. hey booties.. I think the nail is there to protect them from evil spirits? i'm not sure i'm just basing it on something a hindu fren of mine had told me years ago. I was walking behind my fren when i noticed that a nail was sticking out of the top of her long braid! so i asked her why she kept a nail there and she said that they believe that the nail will keep evil spirits away from them. but the ex owners were catholic.. so i'm not sure if they will have the same beliefs..
  15. haha yea he loves to give everyone surprises esp me cos i'm very hard to surprise.. i somehow always guess the surprise so spoil it for both of us.. cos i'm very bad at acting surprised now, he's getting better at surprising me! learnt its better not to give me any whiff of the surprise at all! Yea, i chose black for the granite.. i loved the look of it since i had it when living with my parents. very nice and shiny hor? u also got black? what did u do with the granite cut outs for the sink and stove? i wanted to use it in the bathroom as toiletries rack but contractor told me its too late cos must tell him during tiling.. but i still told him i want the cut outs.. cos i pay for it mah.. don't want to waste it right? but i donno what to do with it hehe.. thought of doing some DIY u mean u can see the seal is it? all the while i was thinking its a polish
  16. really ah?? hahhaha that's good! less work for me cos i decided to get granite too. actually hubby surprised me with it! love granite!! good to know that its not as high maintenance as i thought

  19. Does anyone know where i can purchase artificial plants/trees? Something tall and not too "fake" looking I saw one artificial tree on someone's blog.. it was in their glass study room. Can't remember whose though
  20. Here's another view of the dining/living, with a glimpse of the balcony. ahhh it looks so nice bare.. hopefully we can get nice furniture that won't clutter or take away the attractiveness of the space!
  21. Location: Dining/ Living Plan: wow, we had changed our plans for these areas so many times. Original plan was to hack the balcony and the wall separating the living and the study. Then seal up the original entrance to the study and create a long passage way to the bedrooms. The idea was to have a platform in the balcony and the dining area in the ex-study. However, later on we decided we wanted to keep the balcony as it was one of the reasons we wanted to get an EA. Because of this, the fact we wanted a foyer divider and also cos of the desire for a biiiiig sofa, we had to move our living area to the ex-study and put the dining area in the space between the balcony and the foyer. Another change we made was to the flooring. Originally we wanted big white glossy tiles. Then we wanted just the living area in laminates. Later we decided we liked the look and feel of laminates so we did the whole house (except balcony, foyer, kitchen and bathrooms) in laminates. Here are the pictures of the dining/living Before Sketchup After
  22. Our reno is coming to an end! All the times spent discussing colour combination, designs, themes etc.. Everything is coming together infront of our eyes! Location: Foyer Plan: To have a shoe cabinet cum divider. Wanted something that won't make the area look cluttered. Rounded edges cos to be safe for children and clumsy wifey (aka me ;p) Tiles that don't clash with laminate flooring or are too busy. Foyer before reno Foyer sketchup Foyer after reno Mission accomplished? YES i think the foyer looks quite bright and uncluttered, changing the door to white was a good idea as it doesnt clutter the space. YAY well done!
  23. Hey there! hahaha HDB toilet design are horrible! Mine was blue with flowers i nearly cried... i would have much rather had ur design. lol but i guess the grass is always greener on the either side? I agree with u, plain wall tiles would have looked way better. Good luck for ur reno.. what kind of theme are u going for?
  24. ..contd... shelter door cover downlights! was at first a little worried how it will look cos we changed the colour combi from silver with black to white with black. but i think it turned out great! good work hubby!! <3 downlights with lights off. u can't really see the black lines on the glass part of the down lights.. but it creates a nice accent Entrance to kitchen.. glass doors are up! Kitchen. safe colour combi but i like the classy yet homely look it gives
  25. Picture time As u enter the door, shoe cabinet/foyer divider.. doors not up yet at the time. Also, yet to install frosted glass at the top once u enter, at the dining area (infront of balcony) is the mirror view of mirror from living area tv area.. i <3 the fan! can anyone notice something different about our feature wall? updated pic of console
