I do hdb upgrading 1st. They will complete in 10 days but need to give them a few days to rectify defects. There are temporary toilets installed downstairs too.
-
If you place the TV at that wall, you will be disturbed when people walk from kitchen to bedrooms unless you don't mind.
-
They will not install accessories but new water heaters & lights. Position of toilet bowl is fixed but you can change basin's position. Perhaps, opt for smaller shower area, then ask ID to make small vanity table in place of basin. I paid $150 cash to the HDB tiler to make a drop for shower area & $20 cash to plumber for extra floor trap in shower area. There are a few defects. They created quite a few hollow tiles. Thus when they drill, they create cracks in the tiles. I ask them to replace. I can't imagine when my ID install the accessories for me later. Try to be around as often as possible. Don't waste time talking to the Indian workers. One worker did wrongly & pushed the blame to me. So irresponsible. Call their bosses immediately & ask them to rectify asap. Hope your upgrading will turn out more pleasant than mine.

Wet works=cement screeding & tiling kerb is to prevent water seeping in when they wash floor outside. It's usually built under metal gate
-
copper is cheaper?!? Sighs. But I think copper needs to be painted. Whatever it is, I'm glad that the HDB upgrading for my toilets are going to be completed.
-
I also bought a flat that undergoes HDB upgrading. Like you, I let HDB upgrades my toilets, refuse hopper and metal grille gate. The touch-up will be completed tomorrow. I employ an ID to do the rest of my house. The hacking will start this thu. Try to go down to monitor closely when HDB upgrades your toilets. They gave us a big headache. Their finishings are lousy. I asked them to redo some things. The wet works are poorly done, so there are quite a few hollow tiles. Whenever they drill a hole, they have to change some tiles. I predict more headache when I ask my ID to install the bathroom accessories(e.g. glass shelves). Btw, I paid the tiler extra cash to build a drop for me in my MBR toilet because I want to have a shower screen. I also paid plumber extra cash to change my copper piping to stainless steel piping. If you want to build a kerb in your living room, then the metal gate needs to be shorter. It was too late when I told them I want to build a kerb because the metal grille gate is already manufactured. Is your partition wall for dividing foyer and living room?

Hi people, I come across this blog on kitchen zones. It's quite useful to me when I plan my kitchen cabinets. Hope it helps you all too. From what I gather, these are some things that we will be having in the kitchen. Cooking zone Microwave, oven hob & hood slow cooker Non-consumables storage aluminum foil, cling wrap, tongs, tray, ladles extra plates, glasses & cutlery hardly used crockery & appliances (upper cabinets) Consumables storage dried foods canned foods Food preparation Coffee, tea, milo, sugar, coffee & tea bags, creamer, toaster, waffle maker, blender, mortar & pestle, juicer Cleaning zone Plates, mugs, pots, pans, kwalis, and other cookware. Larger utensils such as kwalis, pots and pans can be placed on the rack beneath the sink to dry and store after wash-up These zones are not clearly defined. You do what suits you.

Hob & Hood - Which Brand Should I Buy?
belquek replied to joper's topic in Electronics & Electricals
We bought Rinnai Hob (RB 333) stainless steel and Hood (RH 382) at around $615(inclusive of GST) at Heritage at Geylang Lor 44. FYI, city gas shops at somerset and woodlands also carry Rinnai. I gave them a ring and compared the prices. Heritage is cheaper. -
I guess it's give and take. I'm also using king size bed. I love my bed! I think my shower area has ample space for two to dance (900 mm). hee I do face some 'criticisms' about having basin in MBR and was swayed in redoing the whole bathroom. After discussing with hubby, we decide to keep the basin outside. I think we are the users and it suits our lifestyles. The vanity top will only be around 700 mm long. I ask for two drawers to be built into vanity cabinet for small toiletries e.g. perfumes & creams. Spare toiletries will be in this tiny cabinet too. Most likely we will only have one bedside table. No table lamp for us. Based on ID's proposed lighting plan, we are sleeping underneath downlights, no need for bedside table light. If only I have more space in my MBR like other areas of my place. Btw, which internet provider do you subscribe for your home? We thought of trying out M1 broadband.

Where do u place ur cylinder? I saw that u have an oven below stove.

Hi warrior, Tks for your advice. Most likely we are going to abandon the idea of foyer. Thus the TV console will be against solid wall and TV will be mounted on solid wall, if it's mounted. Actually, we shifted the position of my MBR door as shown below. The wardrobe is not covering the window. We are facing a dilemma. There will be a vanity top in the MBR with a sink at the top. It will serve as a dressing table too. I regretted not having my sink in the MBR toilet but it's too late. My vanity took over practicality. The HDB contractor has completed the upgrading of our toilets. The water piping is fixed! Arrghs!!! We will build a partition wall to prevent water splashing onto my bed. I'm thinking more of a piece of frosted glass as partition.

I ask ID to redo the design of living room. How should we place the sofa? TV on partition wall? Sofa resting on partition wall? Or open-concept with no foyer? We hope to have privacy but yet do not sacrifice the natural light from windows.

3D drawings are out. I'm not very pleased with it but I can't pinpoint why I don't like it. Master Bedroom Living room Foyer - too dark Is pebblewash hard to maintain? Kitchen-My favorite

The HDB contractor worker caused us a lot of inconvenience. Our problem can be prevented with a 1.5 m hose. When he installed the heater, he connected the s/s water pipe directly to the heater inlet. Then I saw that one inlet of 2-way tap was not connected, so I asked how come it's never connect. He said there's no need. I also never really think how am I going to control the water flow of heater. I also don't really understand his reply(Indian worker). Then I took out the 2-way taps and brought back to the shop to exchange for single tap. When I returned home, I wanted to test out the water heater. Then I realised that there's no tap to control it. How idiotic I feel! We immediately complained to the contractor and he gave a shelling to the worker. We drove back to the shop again and exchanged for our original 2-way taps. Luckily the sale assistant is very nice to allow use to exchange back. This time we bought the hose to connect the water heaters correctly. We are also going to ask HDB contractor to redo the folding door and shift the basin to correct position. Bathroom renovation by HDB is already so problematic. I hope the major renovation by ID will be smooth sailing.

The flat is officially ours! We had 2nd appt yesterday. But we will start hacking next Monday. Hope the renovation will go smoothly without hiccup. My hubby is considering whether to install a glass door between kitchen & dining area. Anyone knows how much it costs?
-
initially I wanted to save costs by plastering one wall in living room. Learnt from forum that it's not a gd idea for tampines flats. 7k is a bit tight to renovate two toilets & kitchen. Usually comprehensive package costs more than 10k. Contractor may not be cheaper than ID. That's what I learn.
-
Welcome to RT. I also bought a flat in tampines. It's a good idea to replaster the whole house. It usually costs 1.8 k- 2 k. The installation of shower screen is around $500. I'm not too sure about toilets because I let HDB upgrade my toilets to save costs. Btw, how old is your flat?
-
Spent $850 on the following: - kitchen sink (crizto scratch resistant) - kitchen tap (vrh) - 4 pieces of corner glass shelves - 1 mirror - 1 glass shelf below mirror - 1 double towel bar(can fit 65cm towels) - 2 toilet paper holder(stainless steel) - 2 sets of hooks - 2 pcs 2-way taps(vrh) - 1 basin sink tap(pozzi) we chose stainless steel finishings for most items. Hope it really last. walked over to another shop nearby and spent $730 - rinnai hob & hood - square basin for vanity top last purchase is a 42" plasma TV (Panasonic THP42G11S) @$1149 i hope the tv is as gd as it sounds. Parts from japan & assembled in japan. Higher resolution No burnt marks like older models...etc(not a techie) We checked out the price elsewhere $1399. The sale ends tomorrow, so we bought it. My hubby was quite keen on it so we bought it.
-
Hi zhiz, I bought a tampines flat too. Is it true that city gas is not avail in tampines? Is your gas in cylinder or pipe?
-
Tks a lot. Your directions is very clear. Most probably we are getting lightings in JB. Did you calculate how much you save?
-
Tks. I bought it because it has no recess and all rooms are rectangular. We are going to buy bathroom accessories, hob and hood today.
-
I'm shifting my basin out and making a vanity top in MBR. Then I will build a partition wall to prevent my vanity top from being seen. Now I have more space for shower. Rather than average 750 mm, we cater 1000 mm between wall and shower screen. I never ask for approval for HDB because the ID told me she's done it quite a few times. My concern is whether it will wet the floor in MBR often.
-
Hi I visited your t-blog. Nice kitchen. Love some of your furniture pieces. Are you living there now?
-
tks, warrior for the advice abt shower screen. We leave 1000 mm for shower screen & shift basin out into MBR. Why do we need to think abt TV console?
