  1. speaking from experience... 50 pax is difficult to get, unless you just book a few tables at the restaurant like what we do for CNY family dinner~ but you can only book it just a short time in advance, by then you will be super busy with many other stuff and still sweating about whether you can book your dinner or not. another way is to book ROM package which allow less tables. but you can only book (usually) 3 months in advance depending on restaurant.... my search evolved from 8 tables, 5 tables, 10 tables, and eventually 15 tables and... sorry i dun have any locksmith to recommend. what i can help is to bump up this thread for others to see.... hahahaha
  2. a few of my civil engineers were discussing about the flood and all of them thought that Marina Barrage is the most likely cause. hmmmm.....
  3. LOL looks like all the friends are on your side.... good chance to slowly "converting" your wife to like the HTS too.... btw, my advice for bridal package is... get a practical choice (read: cheap) and resist spending $ on topping up. i know so many ppl spending $1 or 2k to buy so many photos and the whole album only stay in store room right after the wedding day. also have seen many $3k package with gowns as pretty as $5k packages.... so do your research ya? it's tempting to spend a lot for the so-called "once in a life time" thing but this is not wise if one can look at it objectively~ it's okie la... my parents' place also doesn't have hot water going to kitchen tap, if they really need some hot water for washing stubborn stains, they just use the hot drinking water from our electric airpot... and this is usually only needed during winter (of course another thing is, it's really cold to wash dish with cold water in winter la! ) in summer time, almost no need to use hot/warm water for washing~ it's something that i think is good to have but can live without.... certainly true man... LOL
  4. i got my custom-cut glass from a neighbourhood hardware shop just downstairs. maybe you can ask around your neighbourhood shops~
  5. when's your big day? must book restaurant/hotel quick leh cos that is the "rate determinating steps", sometimes you can have a few dates but all are fully booked for the restaurant/hotel of your choice. only after you make booking and confirm the date, then all other things can be planned accordingly (e.g. photo packages, actual day video). sorry to hear about Ader's sister... hope she will get well soon! thanks for the explanation~ now it makes sense why they do not allow plastering, though it would be helpful if HDB can elaborate on the reason so house owner can make an educated choice on whether to take the risk or not~
  6. bro where do you get the Darth Vader's tune door bell... wahahaha interesting~
  7. hey bro, everything is looking good and coming into place so far! looking forward to come to your place (we are inviting ourselves again hahaha ) my father also highly recommended tracklight instead of downlights. tracklight is also cheaper than downlights for installation (e.g. 1 track is counted as 1 lighting point though you can attach 5 lights to it, but 5 downlights are counted as 5 lighting points). and good thing is you can add or reduce number of lights on the track as and when you like~ erm i remembered reading that HDB says WC location cannot be changed. even if WC location remains, you cannot change the direction of the WC (e.g. WC at the original location but facing north-south and instead of original east-west.... hope you get what i mean ). so, nevermind la... layout may not be optimised but at least you know you are not breaking any rules~ hahaha saw my name being mentioned..... nah your bathroom is looking so much better than ours lor~ i was thinking, i would have put the FCU on top of the bathroom door... but i am not sure if you have any restrictions at site? i have the FCU at one corner of the room cos i didn't want the wind to blow directly to our bed... may not be the most efficient but hubby and i both have bad sinus problem, i dun want to wake up having running nose all the time we made a lot of changes on the FCU positions and we made Sam came down for site discussion at least 2 or 3 times. i hope Aron didn't get angry with us LOL i got my lights from Pantech lighting (next to Chelsea Lighting). they are cheaper than Chelsea in general i think this is okie la, you will come to appreciate the downlights when you need to organise your cables etc
  8. i also dun do the machine cos it bores me to the core. dun think i can last 5 mins there (except for trackmill). so actually when i go to gym (or fitness club might be a more appropriate description?), i join the classes. i seriously lack discipline and can never workout on my own like you, so i join the classes to make sure that i will stay in the studio for at least 1 hour~ i started going for fitness classes some 5 yrs ago, when i fell sick 3 times in 2 months and decided that i need to do something to my health~ exercise is really good! i feel much stronger ever since i started exercising~ i love kick-boxing too~ i don't mind exercising in a class but i really mind having guys around. so i joined an all-female fitness club hahaha Ely is already very skinny but i guess exercising does help to put the "glow" on the face back and she will need this for photo shoot~ and it's true that most pple would just mind their own business and don't bother about others - unless you are some extremely weird person that would attract a lot of attention (e.g. there was one that turned up in kick-boxing class either in skimpy bikini or in pyjamas ). going to an all-female club helps cos there won't be unwanted stares from guys.... but yea i would have saved some money if i have the disciplined to work out at home...................
  9. LOL... we didn't change the main door and kept the original number plate - those white-font-on-black-background type. very "retro" but ugly~ but at least pple can find our unit~
  10. i think the concern for open concept kitchen is not so much for the smell but for the oil. i have been in kitchens with very bad oil stain before, and it's not becos those pple don't clean or something. many of those who do Chinese cooking may encounter this problem. Take my previous place for example, the oil is really bad. all kitchen cabinets, handles etc are oily and we didn't even use a lot of oil in cooking . we don't have hood though which may be a contributing factor. and i think the ventilation of the kitchen plays a part too. again, take my family as example, in the previous previous house (okie we shifted a few times ), the oil issue wasn't that bad though it's the same pple cooking the same food for the same family (and without a hood too) these are observation from my family so far la... i only have these observations but not much on the technical explanation. maybe someone more experience can explain~
  11. it's so heartwarming to read this parents are really the best! makes me miss my parents too... *sniff* yup we were talking about TCM some time back rite~ (which page was that? ) during reno/wedding prep, i was so busy that i didn't work out for some half a year~ until the gym pple called up and asked why i haven't been turning up!
  12. i like but hubby doesn't want standing lamp/table lamp etc... esp for the ones i brought from previous place (he can't throw them away, rite? ), let me think of a good place to use this first... hee hee hee... sometimes it's not just the space available, but also the layout of the room e.g. where the windows and the beams are. like my MBR, in terms of floor area, there is certainly space for a bigger wardrobe, but it's not possible due to the "very good" layout of the room so, you're really lucky to have the space and a layout that allow you to have the big big WIW! enjoy~
  13. i feel that vhive's service is kinda hit and miss... deal with them twice. 1st time: bought 2 office chairs, 1 big 1 small. postponed the delivery 3 times due to no stock for the small one. when the delivery finally came, they only delivered the big chair and not small chair called them up to ask what happened. they claimed that the small chair only cash and carry - no delivery. but we had the delivery written down on invoice and hello - they were the one that postponed the delivery due to no stock for small chair! when questioned, the staff started pushing responsibility around and just refused to get the small chair delivered to us. in the end, we got really fed up, had to raise our voice and give them a good scolding before they eventually agreed to delivery the chair - but with another delay - and the small chair finally came 1 month later (it was already postponed for 2 months before that). 2nd time: bought two bar stools from them 2 weeks ago. decided to give them a 2nd chance due to the good price and this is non-essential item, wouldn't hurt if delivery is delayed delivery came on time, service was ok, they even assembled the stools for us though we were initially informed that we need to assemble on our own. was pleasantly surprised so i guess... it really boils down to luck when buying from vhive? you can also see from the comments here... half are good, half are bad~
  14. yea i know Clementi has... but have to take train to go there... troublesome la~ *lazy* but yea lor like what you said, the Clementi one... somehow don't have a lot of things although the shop not so small leh. usually out of the 5 things i ask them, they would only have 1.... haiz. you can go Becoolen or Geylang..... last time Bun Bun mentioned there is another baking shop at Jurong West St 41/42 area. but i forgot the name of the shop.... oh maybe Lady_R can help to check it out! haha~ i think i read about this before... the class fee also very "nice"?
  15. for my home, it's not due to leakage or something and there is no smell... just that my place is very humid everywhere... also mold everywhere... sigh. so i guess i can't really do anything about the environment unless i shift house~
  16. the one at Bencoolen you mean? East and Northeast seem to have many Phoon Huat outlets leh... they just closed the Jurong East one last year
  17. just checked the map and i can understand why you said it's far... but looks like a very scenic place leh, with the park around... high floor unit probably can see the reservoir also... should be a very nice neighbourhood!
  18. LOL like what you said... have la but difficult to find. demand far outstrips supply! back in my JC days, there was these few guys who were already earning 5-digit amount each month by setting up their own web business... something like that... but of course there weren't so many of them and they were usually already taken~
  19. dunno if she gets PM e-mail notification.... i found Phoon Huat things not so cheap also.. though their butter is very cheap! hahaha~ think the nearest Phoon Huat to May's place should be the Geylang one? hahaha i'm getting excited liao! woohoo~
  20. you mean those very very small ones, like.. less than 0.5mm one? it could be mold bugs... check out those threads discussing on molds to see if that's the same one we were talking about~ yea i got them soon after i moved in... for now, you can try those "poison" for ants and insects... those powder ones... hope you understand which type i am refering to~
  21. LOL of course there are some who are without rich daddies but good with money... but i suppose this pool of pple should be less than what RB mentioned
  22. wahaha yeah footprint can be our shifu ... not sure if froggy is still coming to RT... she is great in baking too!
  23. that's why many pple try to buy a 2nd property and rent it out - a way to "withdraw" your CPF money earlier.......
