  1. hahahaha... old liao really.... yea i asked them before the news of Yishun 10's revamp came out. when they said in unison that they haven't heard of this place before, i was thinking if i'm really that much older to know.... hahahahahahaha
  2. oops i read too fast... your 1st appointment not over yet, but at least can get a confirmed date from HDB~ That day we were just talking about Yishun 10 over lunch time.... and realised that many of my colleagues (10 out of 11) don't even know its existance~
  3. hey you finally started your t-blog~ congrats! and another EM! hmmm if i remember correctly... are you the one with some problem with getting 1st appointment date...? glad that your 1st appointment is successfully over~ when's 2nd appointment?
  4. wow that's a really great gift from your parents! and on hacking of the wall - if i remember correctly (from reading HDB website or something) seller does not have the obligation to re-erect walls that are "legally" hacked (with approval from HDB), since resale flat buyer is supposed to accept the flat in as-is condition
  5. char siew duck rice nearby? where is it? getting hungry now...
  6. yea stainless steel are not "stainless" unless you do a chemical pickling on it (think i explained in someone else's thread before ) if they never do, then there will be some "stain" on the stainless steel and a lot of pple would mistaken that as rust...... my workplace got plenty of "stained" stainless steel pipes so i know... hahahaha
  7. now the wind is blowing towards north side, the pacific ocean east of japan, north of japan e.g. Russia is much more at risk than SG. in any case, this is a really bad disaster and i just wish that no more life will be lost
  8. new one from Straits Times http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_645335.html 'Fukushima nuclear rain' SMS a hoax AN SMS that has been making the rounds warns that radiation from Japan reaching Singapore has turned out to be a hoax. The text message reads: 'A nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan exploded at 4:30 AM today. If it rains tomorrow or later, don't go outside. If you are outside, be sure that you have rain protectors. It's acid rain. Don't let it touch you. You may burn your skin, lose your hair or have cancer. Please pass, stay safe and remind everyone you know.' The hoax originated in the Philippines and has been circulating here. Nuclear experts in the Philippines were quick to debunk the rumour. In a statement, the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) also said radiation levels in the Philippine atmosphere were normal as of Monday and showed 'no increase' since the nuclear plants in Fukushima reported sustaining damage in their reactors. Such hoaxes could cause unnecessary panic and fear. Some who saw the message on Facebook sensed it was a hoax and slammed its senders for causing panic. One Facebook user, Felicia Jieling posted on citizen journalism website STOMP: 'Idiots with nothing better to do can consider going to Japan to assist them, instead of stupidly sending such crap SMS to create mass panic.' The National Environment Agency (NEA) said that Singapore would not be affected by radioactive rain because Japan's nuclear reactors were located 5,000lm away - a radiation shower would require a complete meltdown of Japan's reactors. -- AsiaOne
  9. my colleagues told me they receive sms about the radiation reaching Philippines at 4pm thingie. seems like it's a hoax. anyway i read in HK news, now Japan wind blowing towards northeast direction. haven't reached China and HK yet. too early to talk about Philippines. Still safe… for now… http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1116449/1/.html S'pore unlikely to be affected by nuclear radiation: experts SINGAPORE: It would take conditions like a complete meltdown of Japan's reactors and a continuous fire for a radioactive cloud to reach Singapore, said nuclear experts to ease concerns about Singapore being affected by a radioactive fallout. Singapore's National Environment Agency had said on Sunday that the country is unlikely to be affected, as the incident is taking place some 5,000 kilometres away. However, SMSes have been circulating, warning people not to expose themselves to rain as it may carry radioactive particles that can burn or even cause cancer. Other messages caution people to remain indoors and swab iodine on their neck to prevent radiation. Experts say such messages are causing unnecessary fear, as such a worst case scenario is unlikely because it requires a complete meltdown of Japan's reactors. Dr Benjamin Sovacool, assistant professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, said that out of 66 nuclear accidents that have occured in the past, only the Chernobyl incident resulted in the wide dispersal of radioactive material. "It burned for more than four days in Chernobyl, which is why elements dispersed so far. In the case of Japan, it's more than likely that if there's a type of explosion, they would contain it relatively quickly. Which means South Korea, or maybe some parts of China will be hit, but not Singapore," said Dr Sovacool. Even with this worst case scenario, Singapore will likely have advance warnings. "It would take weeks, at least days, for any radioactive cloud to leave Japan and make it here, unless wind speeds were to get to tsunami-like speeds. Again, we will have lots of advanced warnings. Even if the worse case scenario were to happen, there would be time to talk about taking pills and changing behaviour," said Mr Sovacool. Separately, The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority have confirmed Japanese food products exported before last Friday are safe. These include products currently in the market and those which arrived in Singapore over the last few days. However, as a precautionary measure, samples of fresh produce from Japan after Friday will be tested. - CNA/cc
  10. hahahaha actually my reno started 3 weeks before 2nd appointment, but still the excitement on 2nd appointment itself is different cos finally we're the OFFICIAL owner of the place~
  11. oh ya... counting down to 2nd appointment already... excited rite~ but if HDB started talking to owner on technical stuff and owner don't understand, then how...?
  12. oh ya hor! hahahahaha btw, i just found out that actually on Saturday, meatball is $5 , yes it's $1 more ex than tuesday but i guess most of us are not free to go down during weekday? and a gathering at your place sounds better than meatball outing? heh~
  13. On the news: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_645300.html Tender for the sale site in Jurong Lake District THE Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has accepted an application from a developer to put up the second sale site in Jurong Lake District for sale via public tender. The 1.8 ha land parcel located along Boon Lay Way, next to the Jurong East MRT station, was made available for sale through the Reserve List system on Oct 29 2010. With its prominent location next to the Jurong East MRT station and the Jurong East bus interchange, the subject land parcel is ideal for a sizeable mixed-use development with a potential gross floor area (GFA) of about 88,980 sqm. The site for sale at Boon Lay Way is the second land parcel to be released for sale at Jurong Gateway precint, which has a total land area of about 70 ha. The Jurong Gateway precinct will offer a good mix of office, retail, hotel, entertainment, food and beverage (F&B) and other complementary uses. This follows the successful sale of the first white site at Jurong Gateway Road to Lend Lease in June 2010. It will continue the development of transforming the precinct into an attractive destination for business and leisure serving more than 3,000 multi-national and global businesses clustered in the nearby International Business Park and Jurong/Tuas industrial Estates and a catchment of one million residents from the neighbouring towns. Several government agencies will also relocate their offices to the Jurong Lake District in the near future. The developer has committed to bid at a price of not less than $510 million in the tender for the land parcel. URA will launch the tender for the land parcel in about two weeks' time, and the tender period will be for about eight weeks.
  14. My fren's sis is working in Fei Yue as a counseller it's a Christian organisation but they provide community service to everyone, regardless of religion it's very good to go for marriage prep course. i also encourage my frens to go... sometimes some couples have been together for years and yet they can still discover hidden issues that they have not been addressed on~ it's good to realise and talk about early before marriage
  15. hahahaha if they come up still in doraemon shape i reserve some for you i should be safe with most of the normal butter cookie recipe? dun wanna see a deformed doraemon and dorami
  16. oh dear! hope you are better now... need to see doc or something? didn't know 29" CRT is so heavy... 70kg... i just know my 21" one is much lighter... next time for this kind of bulky items, ask karung guni to take it and dun strain yourself~
  17. wah those thick black ones on fan can be stuck on curtains?! this sounds bad... is your current place very dusty?
  18. hey yuene, Ikea missed out one drawer of your bed frame rite... guess what, i got my Ikea delivery last weekend. when we opened up the package of our Framsta black glass panel, there is only 1 piece of glass inside (supposed to have 2 pieces) the delivery/assembly guys were also surprised~ think something is wrong with Ikea's packaging department recently
  19. oh the curtains that i used to have are those "eyelet" type, so there is no clips... just take out the curtain from the hanging pole.... but i won't iron the curtains... i dun even iron my own clothes, let alone curtains hahahahaha hmmm what kind of material is that? won't trap dust? at my home, even plastic got a light grey layer of dust on it even if i just never clean for a few days..........
  20. wah... that's a lot of effort~! but very cute! btw, now looking for good cookie recipe that can be used for cookie cutter... really wanna try my doraemon cookie cutter leh~
  21. oh okie... i was thinking if it's just wipe... then actually i'd still prefer curtains cos washing machine will do the job for me~ somehow just feel that if use wet cloth to wipe.... the blinds are not as clean as washing the whole curtain in washing machine... dunno.... the show room i went is small, so maybe they have no space to put LCD anymore but funny thing is they still put a lot of plasma tv... hahahaha. well big size tv is still ex cos usually for things like LCD and LED, big pieces are difficult to make and defect rate is high.
  22. wow very nice photos~ please turn this into a photo blog so we can get to see your work~ (you can show this to Rachel. hahahahahah )
  23. yea, unbelievable! finally saw for myself at electronic shop last weekend and i dun seem to see LCD TVs anymore?? extinct already??? my mirror is just a simple stupid plain no frame one, think it's $29 or $35 from Hoe Kee... how big a mirror do you need? 500+ samples!! you are really very patient.... btw, wanna ask: how to clean a roller blind? i always thought curtains are easier to clean than blinds cos curtain can just throw into washing machine to wash.........
  24. hey i got myself a Cellini set too~ hahaha i'll say their quality and build is good... the package will end up cheaper than ikea and really worth the $$! if you wanna have the storage bed frame but don't like the coffee table, you can nego with the salesperson to use the coffee table in exchange of upgrading the bedframe to a storage bed frame. i did something like that last time on the tv console, are you going to mount tv on the wall or place on the tv console? if you are going to place the tv on the console, i can help you strike out the Expedit option immediately cos Expedit is too short for this purpose (only 40cm in height)
  25. yea sure! you all are most welcome to join~ but this Sat i got appointment in afternoon leh... how abt Sun afternoon? or next Sat? bro i think you're lucky to have a such practical wife... haha anyway, for the contractor, maybe you can request to visit his recent project, so you can see the workmanship etc by yourself? i also spent most of the reno $ on restoration... end up many of the nice design ideas get thrown out of the window cos need to channel my very limited $$ to more practical use i started with one spreadsheet for reno, i ended up with at least 4 spreadsheets cos 1 is simply not enough
