RENO PICTURE STORY, CHAP 3 - LIGHTS AND FANS All the lightings and fans were delivered yesterday, including my free PSP 3 Had arranged for lighting.com to instal the dining lights and fans coz its more leceh. I expected an uncle to come, but it was actually two young men, M'sians I think. Did an inventory count and discovered they missed out one item. This was delivered by someone from lighting.com at the end of the day itself. So fairly efficient service, I suppose. The painting works was in progress when DH and I came by yest afternoon. One Myanmar painter who has been here (in Singapore, not in my house!) for 8 years and speaks a smattering of English. Finally get to see what is the actual colour we picked. For Living Room - Misty which looked greyish in the catalog but turned out to beige-ish. This colour will flow throughout the house and connect the rooms together (TM by ID). For Kids Bedroom 1 - Yellow (forgot exact name) and it turned out to be a very bright yellow. Too bright, I thought but my hubby seems to like it. Hopefully, with all the furniture in it, it will help to tone down the yellowness. For Kids Bedroom 2 and Master Bedroom - hvn't painted the accent wall so can't comment yet. Supposed to be purple and bronze-green respectively. Ok, ok, without further ado, here are the pictures..... (One point to note - the colours is more muted in the photos. The actual colour is brighter). Living Room Left: Wall showing the Misty colour Right: Elmark 56" fan in Gunmetal. Very nice You can also the contrast btw the white ceiling and the Misty wall. Maid's Room When the fan was up, we discovered to our horror that it was almost touching the wadrobe door, but upon closer inspection realised that there's abt a 1" gap, whew! This is a 52" fan, so I think we bought too big, but nvr mind, shd keep her cool throughout the night

The race to the title is not won until the fat lady sings Talking abt Chelsea, I find it ironical that Mourinho was fired from Chelsea coz he failed to bring the team to Champions League victory, and just a few days ago Inter Milan beat title holders Barcelona in the semis. I just find it hysterical. Hope rumours that he will take over from Ferguson is true. I admire the man (Mourinho, that is) and he's good-looking to boot. As for Fergie, I've never forgiven him for driving Beckham out of Man U, leading him to do all that crazy stuff in LA. He's a caricature of his old great self and his wife is not helping Anyway, back to reno updates. Lightings will be delivered today instead of Friday. Haven't been to the house for nearly a week already, and am missing it Will post pictures of the dining lights and fans later tonite.

Oh yah, forgot it doesn't include the chairs. The dining chairs can set you back quite a lot too The dining chairs I want for my table cost $519 per piece from XZQT. After discount, the saleslady was quoting me abt $400+, that's $2400 for 6 chairs I told my hubby, mbe we can buy one per month

Reno Picture Story: Chap 2 - Ceiling Works (cont'd) @ Master Bedroom. No before pictures cuz it wasn't done when I came on Thurs. Also discovered that the electrical workers left a mess on my WIW floor when they put in a socket there. Hope it can be cleaned up This week it's first coat of painting, then on Friday the lightings will be delivered and my dining lights and 5 ceiling fans will be installed. And in other good news, Man U beat Man City 1-0 and Chelsea lost. What a great start to the week!

Reno Picture Story: Chap 2 - Ceiling Works Most of the ceiling works have been done when DH and I came by on Saturday. Before pictures were taken on Thursday, lunchtime. After pictures taken on Saturday morning. @ Living Area @ Dining area. There's supposed to be a veneer L box running parallel to the false ceiling but it's not up yet.

The two kids have their own private work space, so one person's stuff won't spill over to the other person's area, leading to WWIII in which Mummy hv to be peacemaker A further suggestion to this is to put the L-shaped study desk to beside the bed so that the passageway is cleared. I didn't know about the middle of the kitchen island thing. That's too bad Looks like I may hv to retire in Switzerland like what I've always dreamed of, if I want to hv kind of kitchen

Yah, I did ask for this type of doors many years back from a curtain shop and they said it will be ex. Why a curtain shop> because I saw something like it in their display. I think its from Hunter Douglas.

Is your teak table part of the outdoor furniture? or is the $1650 for the plastic wicker set, without the teak table? I confuse.... Still too ex for me leh.... and I hv 2 balconies to fill! I don't plan to spend more than $1000 for the outdoor stuff. I kno, I kno, very cheapskate of me, right?

And Man U seems to be out of the title race Is this HD stuff really good? I'm thinking of switching my Starhub box to HD, and signing up for Mio TV for my MBR. but then, if there's no World Cup coverage this year, I might as well invest in a good antenna to catch the Indon or M'sian channels!

Reno Picture Story, Chap 1: Electrical Works (cont'd) Five hours later, when DH and I came back from our 'shopping', most of the work in the living room was already done. Lighting points for living area done. L-boxes are going over these points. Dining area which will have a false ceiling. The Bangla worker posing for a picture Actually, he is outside my house, in the lift lobby to remove the downlight there and put in the conduit and pull-string for future Opennet fibre optic cable. Must plan ahead, mah....! The other end of the conduit and pull string (orange wire) is at my feature wall. Also excited to see that the false ceiling stuff are oso alr here. Not going back to house until Friday or Saturday. Hopefully, by then most of the false ceiling will be up alr.

Reno Picture Story, Chap 1: Electrical Works Yesterday, electrical work was done at my place. The electrician sent 2 workers + 1 Sup - so things got done pretty fast. Good thing my ID was there cuz he missed out some things (even tho he had noted them down) which we had discussed previously (and which he had quoted already). By the end of the day, most of the work was done, except for the kitchen and master bathroom. And boy, the place was so dusty, even the lift lobby! When I was abt to leave after locking up, my neighbour came out to go out, and said loudly in a very snooty tone that the outside is 'so sandy'. Sheesh....hope it's not an omen of things to come Anyway, hv warned my ID not to open the door so wide when they do the work cuz the wind will blow all the dust out. Wow I really like your apt's layout even tho there r a few odd corners. A balcony for the master bedroom? very rare to find in HDB. This is HDB, isn't it? Which part of Bt Batok is this? I hv a friend at Blk 288, near the Nature Reserve, the one with the curved balconies which I really like. Is this anywhere near there? Looks like u hv plenty of space (envy, envy). I think you have laid it out beautifully, except for the rectangular dining table which seems out of place there. Some suggestions: - do u want to consider WIW for the MBR if u can squeeze in the space? - for the bedroom with the 2 single beds, suggest u put them side by side, with the window separating them. That way, the foot of one doesn't intrude into the face of the other - is that a fridge just outside the kitchen? Why not put it inside the kitchen itself? - I would love to have a big island in the kitchen! This can double up as a breakfast or quick meal counter as well. My dream is to have an island with a sink, hob and hood built in. Like Jaime Oliver's kitchen in his earlier shows. Drool.... Do u have any 'before' pictures to share? Like your ideas of the french folding doors. I would so totally put them in my condo if the mgmt allows it. It really gives a classy feel to the apt. Looking fwd to more updates from you

The electrician told me the termination point shd be near the Starhub cable point, which is somewhr ard my tv console area.

My Openet is like nxt yr but I've asked my electrician to prep conduit n pull string frm outside my hse to my tv console area. So when e Openet pple cm they just need to attach e cable to e pull string n pull fr e tv console area. Tt way there's no ugly trunking or conduit cuz it will be hidden in my L box. My electrician charge me $150 for this. Hope this helps
