  1. Very nice but I had a bad experience with supposedly leather dining chairs which flaked within a few months so now quite wary. If I don't upholster my chairs, then i might go for these types Iman Wickerback Chair from Life Shop Sawa Chair, also from Life Shop Does Life Shop has an outlet at Paragon? They only showed the Jln Ampas showroom in the website. Last reosrt, hv to pay a visit to the shop whose name I borrowed for my T-blog
  2. Agree this is what happens when you buy things on impulse I do have two wooden stools which I place at each end, and which I just put under the table when not used. One of the stools have started to crack already so I'm looking for a stool or bench too. I hvn't decided yet whether to go with dark wood or the other extreme which is white-washed. Will see if I have some inspirational ideas from the web or not.
  3. I did try a few years back but it looked really ugh Also my current chairs are really uncomfortable to sit on for too long a time. I think there's something wrong with the design such that your butt (excuse my french) doesn't really sit properly on a flat surface. We bought some Ikea chair pads, but that just makes it worst cuz the pads don't fit properly. Really hate my current dining chair
  4. They do come in the honey colour (which is 25% off, btw ) and dark brown, but we chose white to go with the lights. The Caspian chair idea was inspired by this photo I saw on Loyd Pek's blog where he had matched a modern-looking chair with wooden table. In fact, XZQT has a similar-looking chair (model name is Jam) but I liked the look of the Caspian with its flowery design (no picture, **** it!). I think the picture I posted up there doesn't really do the real thing justice Anyway, I'm also exploring another option which I've described in greater detail in my T-blog. Hope to hear your comments about tt option, too
  5. Oh, I did call them actually cuz I remembered they custom made for you. But they dun hv such service. I did notice tho that Dempsey area has a lot of shops selling teak furniture. Are the rest any good?
  6. Thanks, Zelly! It's a cool idea but I think it will clash with my resort-like sofa set , but I do agree about keeping the dining area elegant. I'm surfing the net to get some ideas on what is 'modern contemporary resort' It's a good thing I didn't design my own house - I think it will end up very obit with mismatched furniture and looks!!!! Lol Wouldn't it be great if hubbies just stay out from the furniture selection, and leave it all to us wifeys or wife-to-be? But my hubby told me str to my face tt he doesn't trust my selection, and to be frank, sometimes I don't trust myself either!
  7. Thanks Patsy and England for the comments on my chair dilemma. Yah, am now rethinking about what kind of chair I want for the dining. My DH is really pushing his idea for the wicker chair but I keep telling him IT WON'T MATCH, DEAR Your comment, England, got me thinking tt mbe I should stick to wooden chairs, so what I did was pay a visit to The Shophouse at Gillman Village. Remembered that they had quite nice teak stuff there. A nice girl by the name of Siti served me, showed me some nice looking pieces. Price was cheaper than XZQT or the Teak and Mahagony ones, but still considered on the high side (abt $300++ per piece). Anyway, Siti gave me such a brilliant idea that I kick myself for not thinking about it sooner. She saw me eyeing some the upholstered pieces and asked why not I just upholster my current ones. That way I can save a bit of $$. I didn't even know can do such a thing (duh!) The Shophouse apparently provided such service and she asked me to leave my name and number and get her designer to contact me. So when I came back to the office, I did a little internet searching and came across a few other companies who can also provide upholstering service. At the same, I can ask them to revarnish the chairs and table too (and mbe even change the colour? I am thinking ash-white, hmmm......) At the same time, my ID is emailing me some pictures of chairs to recommend, cuz i oso asked her help. She designer, mah...so must be able to advise me on these things too....
  8. Thanks for the feedback, folks! Had a rethink on the design of the chairs. Mbe stick to wood or upholster the old ones to save $$ and trees
  9. Coming along very nicely . Not too long now for everything to be over. Everything looks nice and very luxurious! Congratulations!
  10. What kind of chairs would you recommend? Do you think I shd stick to wooden chairs? Ack! you mean the lights don't go with the table either?
  11. Both are actually quite light. The Zanzibar is lighter cuz it's made of wicker. Hmm...you think? The Caspian we saw at XZQT looked to be quite solid. But strangely I can't find it in XZQT or Calligaris (the original Italian furniture maker) website!
  12. Hvn't tried it myself but apparently lots of pple all over the world has. Check out http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/ for ideas on how to 'hack' your Ikea and put your own personal mark on it. Good creative ideas in there.
  13. I had posted a help notice in the Reno Forum for my dining chair dilemma. Pls do give your comments and opinions either here or at the original post. TIA!
  14. Beloved RT forummers I have this solid wood dining table (am getting rid of the chairs) which will go under this dining room cyrstal light My DH and I are looking for dining chairs to match this combination. I like the Caspian chairs from XZQT in white laser-cut polypropylene. I can't find the design on the web but here's a close look-alike from Comfort Furniture. (the cuts are more flowery-like, and the legs are those sled type) Hubby likes the Zanzibar chair and bench in white from Teak and Mahagony. Both options cost abt the same. I think the Caspian will give a modern, urban look and match the lights but I'm also ok with the Zanzibar but fear that it will clash with the crystal light. In your honest opinion, which dining chair will suit the table+light combination better? Will I be committing major ID faux pas if I go with the Zanzibar option? PLEASE HELP!!
  15. Okay, got the prices here for the fans Elmark VIP 99 52" (for the bedrooms): $170 without light kit, $220 with light kit Elmark VIP 9 56" (for living room): $175 Bought at lighting.com @ 515 Balestier Road
  16. Was just looking at your floor plan again and noticed that the balcony at the back seems to be accessible from the master bedroom, via the WIW. Is this so? Isn't this 'dangerous', ie someone might mistakenly walk in to your bedroom while you're changing???? and do u hv a door to the master bathroom?
  17. Hvn't tried at my place yet, so dunno how's the water pressure like. We have a rainshower set at our current place and love it so much that we're going to install one at our new place, but only for the master bathroom. My DH has already figured out how to install it, so hopefully we won't get the house flooded when the time comes to fix it!
  18. Wah, u got so much done already! Very impressed Your place is somewhere in the West, right? Cuz I thot I saw a view of the sea from your Master Bedroom? Very nice.... Really like your nice, airy kitchen. Mine is teensy, winsy, but becuz it's glossy white, it doesn't look too cramp. Can't wait to see all your carpentry once it's done. My ID says mine will be ready by end next week. When are you doing your bamboo deck? I'm doing mine next week. Kent came down yest to do final measurement. If I'd known you had contacted him alr, I wld hv asked him to give me further discount You have many things crossed out already from your to-do list. Mine just keeps on growing

  20. Thank you, thank you hope it's not too blinky

  22. RENO PICTURE STORY, CHAP 3 - LIGHTS AND FANS (CONT'D) Save the best for last (drum roll)...the Dining Room! Left: Worker installing the bracket. Right: Bracket + Frame Installed lights, switched off. Installed lights, switched on, tada! Close-up.
  23. RENO PICTURE STORY, CHAP 3 - LIGHTS AND FANS (CONT'D) Master Bedroom Also a 52" fan, but in Silver. DH didn't like the colour, I thought it looked like 'transparent' grey. Already bot, hv to live with it lah, but if I can rewind, wld hv bot in gunmetal like in the living room. Btw, all the fans hv acrylic blades which is supposed to be lighter, and thus more windy. The white patch on the ceiling is to remind the painter to repaint that part of the ceiling in white. Kids Bedroom The bright yellow room. 52" fan in White. This one, plus the Maid's room and the other Kids Bedroom has the light kit fitted in. Pretty good illumination, even w just two lights on. Altho' both DH and I think it looks ugly but bo pian, the normal light one gives v weak lighting, good for romantic moments but not for kids and maid bedroom! At last we have lights in the house so can stay back later if we want to
