Where To Buy Custom-Cut Tempered Glass And Fountain Pumps?
gimz63251073 replied to paladin's topic in DIY Corner
10mm was recommended by the staff there. i originally wanted 8mm (follow IKEA's thickness) but cost difference was like $10. So i just go with the staff's recommendation. Yes, they do cut holes in the glass. I saw many pieces of glass at the factory there waiting for collection.. Carlton glass can get people to arrange transport for you, but it does not come cheap. I forgot the exact price, i think i was quoted $80. So glass cost $100, but delivery $80?? so i act gung ho and carried it with wife. We both vowed never to do it again! for your glass size, if it cannot go into a lift, then really jialat liao.... -
Where To Buy Custom-Cut Tempered Glass And Fountain Pumps?

for a rough gauge, i got my glass from Carlton glass (cash & carry) at $107 (w GST). Dimensions: 10mm by 1800mm by 85mm. Clear tempered glass with rounded edges. It is already very heavy. Not advisable to carry yourself for the dimensions u mention. For your 9ft by 50cm, it sure is difficult to get into lift/car. But $500 still seems high, u might want to get a few more quotes around. But as far as i heard, carlton does only glass. If u want wood, u can get from Ban Heng Leong (just google). I just picked up some "lelong wood" there to play with. Their shop ard Jalan Bersah Market (lots of nice food there!) -
sorry if i am blunt. but if you do not have much savings left, how are you going to retire at 50?

M’Sia Immigration: Women'S Explanation 'Suspicious'

all i can say is they really lack common sense. No sympathy from me. -
rightfully should be ok, if its just one chair people hang ceiling fans - heavier than chair on the ceiling as well. but just a thought, the chair dangling there may not look very nice asthetically.

u can try carlton glass (just google for it) quality is good. i bought tempered glass elsewhere before, cheaper but finishing not good. So shall not recommend. -
im not an expert, but i do have a keen interest in financial planning. financial planning (to me) cannot be viewed in isolation. We need to incorporate lifetsyle needs. This includes buying of big ticket items like house, car, tv, sound system, etc. U need to agree in-principle with your spouse as well, for family harmony. No point scolding wife for shopping too much, but one day later u go and buy new car. My personal practice: 1. Learn to use money as a servant, not be a slave to money. 2. Avoid the rat race, avoid buying something just becos everyone has it and be realistic about your economic ability, i.e. "can i afford it?" We need to be bruatlly honest with ourselves and have a good hard look at ourselves. 3. People tell u to take more risk by investing in stocks/alternative investment. But to me, principal protection is the most important. So take less risk, but have to make up for it by saving more, so sacrificing even more luxury stuff. 4. start planning for retirement even before you start working.

Changes In Cpf Minumum Sum From 1 July 2011
gimz63251073 replied to therat's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
yes, goal post keeps shifting. The launch of CPF Life is already evidence. so we need to start saving for retirement funds which we can see and touch separately. No easy way out. The sooner u realise and act on it, the more u can spend in future. Boy, im starting to sound like an insurance salesman....hahah! -
recently i added mnd on facebook. most of comments there are from people who need (or they think they need) help. Groups of people: 1. young couple who wants to get married 2. young married couples 3. young married couples with children 4. singles To me, groups 1 to 3 have a higher need than group 4, i.e. one house can meet the needs of 2 people. However, many singles are hounding the govt to let them buy a flat. This will certainly open floodgates, every single guy or ger will go out and buy a 4 room flat, pay for housing using max loan from monies from CPF and rent out rooms. This will enable them to cash in on CPF savings at a young age. Sounds like a very good idea! I, for one, certainly do not want that to happen. We have enough of that these kind of people already. As for whether flats are expensive or not, it really depends. I read in one tblog that says that he is looking for a table, on budget. So the appropriate one he or she found is from ikea, costing $500+. That to me is certainly expensive, but to him/her, its "budget". A matter of perspective i guess, no right or wrong. To solve pricey hdb. --> what is pricey? And what price level would people stop complaining that it is pricey?

im using stainless steel Rubine sink from Poh Joo. Its working fine. i think around 1 year old. my cheapo tap leaks a little, not major so i din bother to change. The sales ger will recommend getting better stuff, i.e. tell u that the particular mixer is no good. i bought 1 mixer, the cheapest for my common bathroom as its there for show only. Slight rust on the mixer, not obvious though. for chrome bathroom accessories like toilet roll holder and rack to hold toiletries, these get water stained easily. So i DIY spray a layer of varnish on it for protection, just like $4 per can at hardware shops.

Finally we did up the spare bedroom. It will be a sewing room + reading room for us. We put the old window grilles to good use. Hung a poem made by a China guy on the streets using my chinese name. Closer look at the fan. Too much stuff in the room, so put the fan there. Turns out to be a good colour contrast! On the other side: The DIY sewing table + bookcase. The luggage here would possibly be our last project, given that we already have NIL space left to put stuff. Its a old suitcase from my grandma's time. We intend to paint it and add some fabric inside. Probably use it as a display or what....

Hdb Loan & Cpf Interest
gimz63251073 replied to adam72's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
1. Given $200k in OA and $200k loan. What will you do? For me, i still have a long way in life to go, so i will repay and get myself out of debt. Out of mind, out of sight. Should i need to change house, its easier as i need not repay the "accrued interest". (Please correct me if im wrong) Without the housing loan burden, we need not "drag ourselves to work for money". How often do you hear people saying they drag themselves to work? If i am nearing retirement age, e.g. around 50, then i might not want to redeem. The chances of me dying is much higher and i would possibly want to leave some money behind and use insurance to cover the outstanding loan. 2. Early repayment of loan would not yield very much returns in the form of money. But it gives you much more freedom to choose, i.e. get a lower pay job, but in return spend more time with family or on your hobbies. 3. i see the accrued interest as a "necessary evil". To prevent people from selling a big house, change to a small house and splurge the profits away. The topic of govt controlling cpf monies is always sensitive but i think its a good thing that they are doing so. Most people i know spend whatever they have, be it they earn $3k or $7k monthly. -
we can argue till the cows come home la really. whichever policy is implemented, it will affect us. If houses are affordable, people should not have the need to rent out for rental income or have nothing left. Theory wise, ok. But now many have bought at high prices. How now? U can say that they overstretched, but hey HDB approved the loan one after considering my finances. End of the day, policy makers decide. Not possible to please all parties now that prices are already so high. No real solutions in life, we just re-create another problem.

according to how much they lost in their minibond investment? -
yeap, need to connect the water pipes to bathrooms. Citygas will connect the gas pipe to gas heater only. You have to get taps that allow u to shift left to right to adjust the temperature 2...i forgot the name for it... if u want hot water on taps, then also have to connect to the taps. new series...hmmm larger capacity, mine is the 7l version. wonder if there is any substantial difference.

gimz63251073 replied to ansmania's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
there are tiles that look like wood as well. -
yes u would see a burning flame, thru the gas heater's glass. its like using a gas stove la basically. Water heater up by a flame becomes hot water. think....when u are using the gas stove, does gas escape out? Quite surprised to hear things like cause clothes to have black spots actually. Where did u hear that from? Been using it for slightly less than a year, pleased with it. But of course, if having that device in your house worries you, no point having it. Peace of mind is priceless.
