Question On Glass Backsplash For Kitchen
gimz63251073 replied to vhardono's topic in Carpentry Works
I am considering if aluminium composite panel can be used as a backsplash.: http://www.dama.com.sg/aluminium-composite-panel.htm any one tried before? or should i be the guinea pig? -
Sorry to be frank, but good friend so what? 2 good friends of 10+ years (whom i constantly meet up with) quoted me very high for reno works. I simply took my business elsewhere. Its also better, friendships get complicated with money issues. In the first place, you are already not happy with them before reno start. If your hubby insist on getting them, then u should gently remind him that you are the one coordinating and liaising. The contractor is not confident. If he knows things at the back of his hand, would he need to bring in so many people for meeting? Maybe take a day or two to cool off before deciding. Cheers!

hmm...not a very good idea to have sink in the room itself. If you have the tendency to splash water when washing, the flooring would get wet. And the floor may get slippery if u are using tiles. If u use wooden flooring, then the floor may be damaged. Unless u put a huge rug there?

oh no, u mean they left it like this? should have at least made it white ba. This is very unacceptable. but as long as u got ID, should not be a problem.

Somehow the door cannot close properly, need to adjust: Some electrical works: Conduit pipe for my toilet light: Electrician used some plastic cover for wires in hard to reach area, so smart!:

Continued... The 2 huge drawers for storing bulky items (Length 900mm). I Like!! Inside the big drawer (free tray for me?) Storage area for brooms, cleaning stuff as well as hide pipes: Laminate we are using, should look a lot lighter in the day:

Installation of kitchen cabinets started. YAy! i was so excited that i went down yesterday night to take photos. With 2 torch lights and one lousy phone camera, this is what i managed to get: Cutting of holes for water pipes: No brand soft close supplied by contractor (actually is more like slow close than soft close): Extension of full height cabinet to hide some piping away when viewing from living room: Some of the wood used:

if your reno is too rushed, it could mean the following: 1. u have no time to shop around and end up paying more for household appliances 2. contractor give sub standard work and u have to accept becos u want to move in (and yes, they know it!) 3. u may not be able to achieve your desired layout/feel as furniture and lightings may be out of stock. U might have to weigh your options to see which is more important. any layout for your hotel theme? i think its a very nice theme to have. For hotel theme: http://mkelectric.com.my/images/stories/mk...ant%20Hotel.pdf If you are really into the theme.

wow, that is expensive. U might want to get more quotations? $6.9k of electrical works is crazy for sure..exclude switch some more??

Thanks Mickey & Clementi PR! We got a lot of shock looks from the hardware shop and electrician when we told them we wanted to use the conduit pipes and metal boxes... Those metal boxes caused me to be "scolded" as they are much more expensive than the usual white boxes. But luckily, i still managed to get them. Our not-yet-connected light tube for the industrial look: Not sure why casing was not all the way up...hmmm forgot to ask: Some work by the electrician: Kitchen/dining area:

yeap, we finally bought it @$99. So happy with the purchase! We spent a long time discussing whether or not we should buy it. Finally we left ikea tampines very late smiling happily at our purchase. Managed to fit into the car and carried it back ourselves! Still waiting for quote on stainless steel table top. We are also considering to use aluminium composite panel as table top, but have to seek advice from the shop for their opinion on the suitability first.
-
Last but not least: The casings: We had to bring the old casings back to choo chiang ourselves to exchange for some square casings and 20mm conduit casings. The 8 ft conduit casings can fit into my dad's car, we are so lucky! Can't wait for the pipings to be up!

Our electrical works have finally started: Stuff we bought ourselves. Its not easy buying everything we need. We made many trips to choo chiang and we spent a lot of thing deciding where to the lights and switches. We are doing rewiring and basically changing all electrical stuff. It was tough calculating what to buy and going through the "to-buy" list making sure we had everything we need. But its still a very fun and enriching exercise for us! Stuff we bought: New wires for the whole house: The industrial switches and sockets (plus some normal switches and sockets to cut cost) new DB: Accessories for our conduit piping and miscellaneous stuff:

IKEA's annual sale is around July period. So if not in a hurry to get stuff, better to wait. many goodies at super attractive prices.

Hound your ID for a solution... it could still be possible to put your fridge there, but leave a lobang at the back of the fridge for the pipes? if you make do with a smaller fridge, should be able to open ba? i didnt notice the pipes till u mention it, yeah its quite weird to have pipes right beside the windows. Possible to remove? My house dun have so many pipes leh... hacking started? i always loved the place after it is hacked. So open and big.

half hr fire rated door: i was quoted between 800 to 950 from contractors. I see no problem in u getting it less than 1k. if u had already confirmed with carpenter then nothing more can be done except praying? haha...do let us know of the outcome, he might turn out to be a gem!
