  1. ohh.. did u get the blinds from ikea tampines? i din see those at the alexandra outlet...or did i miss it...?
  2. i was told that cannot remove. reason being that the wire runs thru the whole block, so if you remove it, all your neighbours above/below it cannot use it. it quite hideous, but luckily my sofa blocks most of the view.
  3. matashi, u got blum hinges right, not drawers hor... carpenter should know how to do la, unless its so sophiscated blum system like the senso-drive. even my old carpenter knows how to do blum stuff (hinges, drawer runners), though he pronouces it as "bloom" instead. hinges not that expensive to begin with, so maybe mark up $2 already a significant percentage le... to be safe, i used the post-it method to stick onto whatever needs to be rectified. Sometimes too many till i also forgot! urs having lots of problem..? chill man, Ronald should be responsible enough to rectify.
  4. haha! u still need advise? http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=30347 u have already been advising people since 3.11pm yesterday. next time must record down which account say what thing... sometimes we forget.
  5. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10322p.nsf/w/...id?OpenDocument Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) HDB flat owners must have physically occupied their flats for a period of time, referred to as Minimum Occupation Period (MOP), before they are eligible to sell it in the open market. Please note that definition of MOP. Strictly speaking the flat must be occupied, leaving it vacant does not count at all. How to check whether place is occuppied? only way i can think of is utliity bills, maybe HDB scholars would have better ideas...haha...
  6. first of all, HDB is for staying. Renting it out requires permission. 1. Criteria for renting out whole flat: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10323p.nsf/w/...at?OpenDocument 2. Criteria for renting out rooms: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10323p.nsf/w/...om?OpenDocument as you can see, criteria for renting out whole room is not easily met, so few would openly declare it. staying in condo does not allow hdb to be rented out fully (and openly declaring it), so many get around it by locking 1 room, obviously HDB will penalise when they find out. many still take the risk though, as there are simply too many flats to be checked. HDB is concerned with bottom line as well, so why bother hiring people to conduct checks when there are no complaints? the army rules apply "do what you want, but don't get caught"
  7. my bad, had read the website... yes, 5% is achieveable. but due to the cap, 5% per mth is not achievable. thanks for highlighting!
  8. i seriously don't think the govt bothers with fridge. They may have rules on the safety of a product, but definitely not quality of a product...
  9. rain shower or not, as long as the person gets showered, the shower head would have done its job. anyway, i believe time can be better spent doing business rather than arguing over something so silly. IF u want to do business in renotalk, u have to accept comments - not only compliments!
  10. my guess is that it can reach the "shower-ee" if shift up the shower head to a high high position. since this forum is open to all, good/bad/uncertain things will all be said. its part n parcel of a forum. Chill.....
  11. uhh that grey thingy does not look like silicon leh... more like patch up job to me... the light that area - ur concern is on the hole? can be easily settled one.
  12. from my kdk warranty card, they need the original receipt. not sure how strict they are on that rule. btw, already got people post that kdk ay11s can be bought at $155 from a shop. (just read thru the threads).
  13. chill bro, hdb officer also making a living and drawing a salary. its the people at the top who set the policy. anyway staying in HDB = many things cannot. live and let live.
  14. hmm...no matter what house u get, they will ask you why u did not get the other houses... *duh* if u buy EA, they ask u why didnt u buy condo, if u buy condo, they ask u why didnt u buy EA. they will never be happy...but most importantly the house owner must be happy!
  15. assuming i spent 3k every mth, each quarter i spend 12k cashback = $300 per quarter (capped) rate = 300/12,000 = 2.5% how did they get the 5% TIER? however, depending on your spending, a 2.5% rebate is still not bad. But marketing it as a 5% rebate? tsk tsk...
  16. try DIY the knife rack? i would be doing something similar to this later. looks easy! surely worth trying! source: http://www.thekitchn.com/thekitchn/cutlery...der-tips-120820
  17. actually baby was the skilled sprayer for paint.. my spraying cannot make it... for white, had to do very thin layers. used up 2 cans of paint for 2 chairs. very pleased with the results... so the cost of the makeover is like $7 per chair! was telling baby we can spray one in bright pink and one in bright baby blue for use as study table chairs in the common room, but baby say cannot...too colourful le... we bought the cute prints a long time ago, till we even forgotten that we had those fabric...went back to ikea to see if they still sell this..but sadly no more le... yeap, we "overlay" the flower fabric over the original cover as the original cover was simply too hard to remove....too many staples... yeap the storage is for kids stuff, we find it very useful...one drawer for socks, one for tshirt, one for shorts...etc. Gotta label it 2, if not too hard to remember next time...
  18. wahaha....bumble bee's leg got injured! uh how come go all the way to JB to do carpentry...must be very cheap.... how much carpentry u doing? from pictures, seems like alot... btw matashi, looking at how extensive your reno was, it was a very good idea not to DIY...
  19. ok, now for the pictures. we have sprayed 4 chairs - 2 dull black and 2 glossy white. Intend to wrap the black frame chair with orange cloth. we have done up the white framed chairs. A before and after look Two white side by side - baby refers to them as sisters. Closer look at the prints. (fabric from ikea, used 0.5metres) Last but not least, we finally have some storage space for clothes. Thinking back, we were a bit crazy to buy all these and lugged it back on an SBS bus!
  20. yeap, just ask nicely the workers to help u with the disposal of the additional pieces of stuff. but must "help" them back la...u get the idea don't u....
  21. oh, its just a pallet which i picked it up from a hdb block. was worried that the paint will not stick as the surface is rough, so if really want to paint, have to sand, primer and paint. very tiring... got other projects to do first...
  22. how they change the letter box key: 1. drill thru the old cam lock 2. take out the old cam lock 3. install new cam lock check your town council website for minor repair works, i did mine @$20. no need special equipment la...
  23. here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?s=...st&p=538338 (post 283)
  24. a busy weekend it has been... 1. doing up the blinds...plan aborted due to the lousy drill bit...the saying that "cheap is no good" applies.. gotta arm ourselves with better stuff for installing blinds next weekend! 2. spraying of chairs - an extreme success. we spent a long time deciding on the colours and had 2 fully done up chairs. We think that it was a major transformation, pics to be uploaded soon. so glad that we DIY the chairs, super nice!! 3. malm drawers were out of stock, so we opted for this instead: http://www.ikea.com.sg/en/catalog/detail.a...other%2Cstorage the thing was, we had no car on saturday. so its the first time we carried such a big thing (1.8m in length) and travelled by SBS bus... luckily bus was not crowded and we made it home. Kudos to baby for carrying 7 storage boxes with covers and 1 pillow. verdict on frame: sturdy and the boxes slide easily. we will be gettiing 2 more from ikea later for our WIW area, so the sold out Malm drawers was a blessing in disguise! OK, very long post with no words...hahaa...now presenting our pallet show rack, will keep it in its unpainted colour for the time being. love the looks of it, upping the industrial look! this rack will be used for shoes frequently used...we need another shoe cabinet for obvious reasons...
