  1. thanks Shawn. very hard to stick to a particular theme... for example wifey like concrete floor very much but decided against it as she is afraid our parents may freak out... we try to put in industrial elements like metal as much as possible though and keeping it uncluttered. We tried as much as possible to use industrial things, will get a industrial rack later to use as bookcase, i suppose. Also, venetian blinds would be more industrial lookalike, but we preferred roller blinds for the cleaner look. so i wouldn't say that ours is industrial theme, rather a simple white flat with some industrial elements inside. to begin with, our initial concept was to do a minimalist home! see how much we deviated...haha...
  2. western retro..? nice...actually retro to me is nice already...haha posters of vintage cars? hee...
  3. oh nope its very cheap, HKD 10 from Temple Street night market. this advert is for cough syrup, they got many for cigarettes...
  4. hmm...i did rewiring as well. for a 3rm, total cost of db box+wires+sockets+casing for materials+screws+watever misc like wall putty = $700 (thereabouts) and sockets i used are expensive (ears got pulled by wifey, ). E.g. one 13A double socket cost $9.50. as compared to a normal white MK socket which cost $4. so i would say that given that urs is a 5 room, unless he used the good sockets and switches, $600 is very ex.. unless he give u those swee swee switch with LED light, then faster "on" him.
  5. wow u did the aluminium composite panel! i have to re-think my backsplash le, hai...cheap option from ikea cannot work! very innovative to use solid surface for toiletries holder. enjoying your home le?
  6. ceiling fan is never meant to cool the whole place. it can only cool a slightly larger area than its blades. hence, its suitable for areas like above sofa and above bed. i tried KDK babyfan during my stay at Tunes Hotel. Loved it so much that i got it for my house. During cool nights, just need speed 1, during hot nights just need speed 2. speed 3 is not good, too powerful and noisy to be able to sleep.
  7. yo, hows living in west coast? we just explored the market opposite west coast plaza, not bad. quite some good food.
  8. How come so? from what i read should be half-half to spouse and parents. Please see below: http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/non_version/cgi...mp;method=whole Rule 4 If an intestate dies leaving a surviving spouse and no issue but a parent or parents, the spouse shall be entitled to one-half of the estate and the parent or parents to the other half of the estate. "issue" includes children and the descendants of deceased children. Intestacy is the condition of the estate of a person who dies owning property greater than the sum of his enforceable debts and funeral expenses without having made a valid will or other binding declaration; alternatively where such a will or declaration has been made, but only applies to part of the estate, the remaining estate forms the "Intestate Estate". --> From wikipedia
  9. im not sure if the matter is worth pursuing by insisting them to fix it. U tried yes they did give u a lousy gate, but the delay in fixing the gate would cause the problem to worsen. U might just end up worst off than before. at the end of the day, we are at a losing end. how would we know how to check for quality of a gate?? i doubt u have anywhere else to go to except CASE, which u need to pay like $10 to get them to help? a can of spray costs $3.50 to $4. u can easily lift the gate up, the gate "sits" on the hinges. some things in life are just not worth it....
  10. Hi Mookie, levelling of kitchen was done as we wanted to extend the living room. Yes the kitchen has a 8cm drop (thereabouts) as compared to living room. Here is how we did ours. Bird Cage DIY Things to do: 1. Buy bird cage, buy the light connector (got ours from ikea), buy light bulb. 2. drill a hole at the top of the bird cage for the wire to go thru. 3. connect up the light connector 4. fix on light bulb there you go. Still need an electrician to connect the lighting of course... Fairly easy! depending on whether you want the wooden look, u can spray it using acrylic spray - around $3.50 per can. Tons of colours to choose from. Have fun!
  11. uh no leh...mine is $250. looks identical to the $188, diff is this is more solid. Coating should be the same. hmm...no problems for me leh...only complaint is installer did not protect my floor when spraying touch up paint! my wife's dad also installed from CNS and is ok, so we went ahead. ok but anyway, better take down your door frame and salvage it! remove the rust and spray black paint on it... hope urs can be saved.... But the manager really attitude leh...who uh...? We liaised with Simon...
  12. opppss...my bad. 2 years. blinds are from spotlight. some kind of plastic material, from outside cannot see through at all. but must be gentle with it, we tried crumpling some at spot light... dun worry curryqueen, once ur starts, can take a lot of pictures also!
  13. woah, nicely done.. must cover your cement screed ah...workers usually just throw their screwdrivers...etc on the floor when they dont need it. noticed that u did false ceiling for kitchen... nice... u have air con despite having an open concept....? would it work...?
  14. oh no, any pics? can salvage? mine was done by Cxx also. no problems leh...
  15. very nice!! n ur boys are so cute....the most playful age uh? can u show more of your toilet? heee....the tv on door is interesting....how did you run the wires?
  16. just like to share my retro poster...heee are u going to do a resort mix with retro stuff? will be an interesting mix... bar counter?
  17. yeah, looks very pretty! it came as a free gift for a one year subscription. they also gave a lousy pot as well.
  18. It has been another week of lazing around in the new house, did not get much things done except sleeping. Baby finally got her free induction hob, courtesy of Simply Her: My first time using an induction hob (except for steamboating outside), so this works well enough for us. We had an incredible amount of food, and a very satisfied tummy. Fixed up our clock - decision to buy made in 3 mins, since it matches and is on sale. Somemore its in ringgit! Fixed up our bedroom blinds: it was harder than it looked! Those walls are so hard to drill!! Plus, the standard size of 120cm could not fit (due to my mistake earlier on regarding air-con trunking). So had to cut to size... And not forgetting our living room...now no one peep through!!!
  19. just let her run barefooted at some hdb concrete floor to test? i like retro themes! have been buying retro posters (old cigarette adverts - around A3 size) from Hongkong in my last trip. would u be getting retro furniture or re-furbishing your furniture? many nice retro furniture here, but usually quite ex... have fun here!
  20. hmm yeap, wrought iron ones, $300 for bedroom and living room grilles. Both are fixed grilles. personally i would go for matching looks, i.e. window grilles match with door grille. Nicer mah. not sure why mild steel so expensive? just tried to wiki mild steel, said to be easily rusted also. my ex-owner had aluminium door grille, looks very flimsy leh...not advisible lah.
  21. uh dean, price is available at ikea.com.sg
  22. wow...thats quite a bomb to spend. Hope it turns out well! more pics more pics! yeap living on your own also is a huge step to take, its part of growing up (or old) do you have keys for your lettterbox now..? If got keys, not hard to DIY. the cam lock can be removed rather easily from inside, so just have to bring the cam lock to hardware shop to get an exact same one. If you are changing doors, can ask the door guy to help also, maybe charge u minimal fees. Locksmiths need to charge u for transportation mah... anyway, for dining table, glass is easier to take care la. My dad has 2 wooden tables, end up putting glass on top to protect the wood. glass can get black one, also swee swee...
  23. hihi so nice to see the progress! old flats' walls all slanted one...must try to get them to make it as level as possible. ohh,,..i got a quote for windows from F&A before. very ex leh. how much is the mild steel gate..?
  24. Congrats! lucky it got fixed. super duper heavy rain every now and then!
