uh pardon me for asking. whats the real value add in the eubiq? The normal power point becomes a power strip and user still have to place the electrical product near to the power supply. i had briefly thought of getting it, but could not convince myself....

When Can I Sublet My Flat (mop)
gimz63251073 replied to Tech_wizard's topic in Housing Rules, Policies and Procedures
Total "crimes" = 39 + 56 = 95. Total inspected houses = 7,000 Percentage = 1.35% If 7,000 is a sizeable sample size, probable "crimes" in Singapore based on 900k households = 12,214. In anycase, these 39 houses would be available for people soon i hope. And solve housing problems for 39 people. Maybe they should learn something from the LTA. Using the OPC car offences as a gauge, since the implementation of the new e-licences, OPC offences had shot up 10times. http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_637276.html -
About Hacking Away My Bedroom Walls. Pls Give Comments

no point getting quotation now. 3 years later, price would surely change. Also, your plans, the trend, etc will change. one year of slow reading t-blogs and magazines before getting keys would be more than sufficient. (know the problems people face, new products or materials available, etc) Do note that if its a pre-fab wall, cannot be hacked. (those thick black lines on floor plan) Hacking a wall would bring about other costs: - making good of ceiling - cost to make good flooring (if flooring is provided) -

select ur flat as in BTO? in that case, flat not built yet. for hacking, ur contractor have to get approval from HDB when doing renovation. so unless u are going to renovate, no need to inform HDB. -
do u have a written confirmation from the laminate supplier that they would honour warranty even if laminate is installed in kitchen? i was told by supreme n pergo that no warranty if we want laminate in those area...

i would have to disagree on this. a 4rm in local context is of a certain size, 90+ to 100+ sqm. a 3rm in local context is usually 60-70 sqm. a difference of 30sqm of internal living space. just because a wall has been hacked does not make the internal living area smaller. another example. if i buy a 3 room flat and build up one more partition room, it does not make the place a 4room flat does it? -

hacking or not hacking is largely a decision made due to lifestyle needs. a 5 room flat is a 5 room flat, the internal size does not change. While there are people who loves totally "wall less" homes, there will be others who prefer a house with walls. As it is now, families are getting smaller, and would really need less rooms as compared to the past. going forward, my personal view is that people have long grown accustomed to homes with less walls and bigger rooms, partly due to the much smaller flats being built by hdb. saying that a fully hacked place would have mean lower asking price cannot be further away from truth. More and more are seeking for a totally wall less place so that they can re-design the whole place. I would be very happy if i can find one such flat. -
island wide no pvc door..? i seriously doubt it la.... just call up any guy in clasified to quote u on bifold door and check for availlability.

standard - probably he means that given the small bedrooms now, there can hardly be any differences in layout. for example, positioning of bed and wardrobe would be in standard place. as there is no additional space to play with. As for hacking, if u take a look at the t-blogs renovations. Many house owners hack down a wall or two during their renovations. So do u still think having less one wall makes the place less "saleable"? If the location and amenities around the place is good, it will always be selling like "hot cakes". Have fun in your renovation! (yes ur ID appears to lack creativity, u might want to get more opinions) -
somehow the TPL episode is like a mini Ris Low epidsode!

was referring to BTO of course.. yeap i also think 4yrs is too long. Imagine all the passion and desire to get married would have vanished into thin air after 4yrs....hahaaa 2 yrs would be a good waiting period, people usually take around 1 year to prepare for wedding dinner and stuff for wedding. Unfortunately with the silly BTO system, 2 years is not going to happen.

heard a joke that even if u put a monkey together with the senior elite for GRC, the monkey will still "swing" his way into becoming a minister... well, GRC often gave those they want a back door into becoming a "ministar". Like our dear MBT.

fresh grad getting keys in 4 years time is considered good already. (by current standards) im not very sure of the market pay for fresh grads nowadays, but i certainly struggled a bit when getting a resale flat. (around 3 yrs after grad) my expenditure: COV - 20k Reno + furnishing - 30k 50k total. Not easy for any one to accumulate after graduation. I was lucky enough that uni fees were paid by dad, so i graduated debt free. Quite a few of my uni friends had study loans to repay...

yeap thats the way! living near parents is a choice by people, deciding to stay near parents just to get a 10k grant? Its not as if houses are still being sold at 100k. many cases i have seen is young people cannot afford the high prices in mature areas (where their parents stay) and are forced to ballot for BTO instead. lol.

personally i think this has nothing to do with elite setting policies. marriage cert = legally married. imagine how much abuse people would have if the HDB do not require any cert or documentary proof? i could technically get a house anywhere on the island and walk away with the grant. govt sets policices which are beneficial to some and not beneficial to another group. Like for example having baby bonus. Those who choose not to have babies are not complaining that they are short changed right?

i was in the same situation, under female seniors (SG) younger than me! But they were nice and did not "kick me around" like i said earlier, look at what you have. And treasure it. If you always look at what you don't have, you would never enjoy and treasure life. He had to give up his family and come to a foreign place to work, i don't think he had it that easy as well. Too often, we think that the grass is greener on the other side, but is that really the case?

honestly NS is not as horrible as it sounds la... pretty much manageable and fun during the BMT period. many men do not mind reservists as well, since its always nice to catch up with long time friends... ok, back to topic, no system would be 100% "abuse-free". No point saying who go thru loop holes....as there is always someone doing so, its just not us. Be glad we do not have to leave our parents and loved ones in order to "benefit" from a system. If i have a choice, i would still rather be a Singaporean than China guy who can go thru loop holes. Treasure what we have instead of what we cannot have. Cheers!

i would try to save for my future kid's university education. in fact, i would rather save up more for his education than use that money for my retirement fund. My dad's best present to me was to provide me with an education to allow me to live independently, and i would likewise want to do the same for my child. But the difference was, he told me straight in my face that he can only afford local U for me. But that was already good enough, knowing that he isn't loaded and had to scrimp for years. Even if we are unable to save 100% of the uni fees, every bit counts. Even 50% or 60% would go a long way.

yeap, agree with marshmallow. as it is right now, its still a sellers market. Agents usually have no problem finding buyers, its just a matter of price. a few of my friends are hunting for flats and trying to get a good bargain by offering COV than requested by seller agent. Of course their bid got thrown out of the window... Good luck in your house hunting.

yes there is... it always make sense to pay full. Interest on cars are charged at flat rate basis, so the effective interest rate is very high. while u can get a car without any downpayment, its effectively financial suicide. Lets say u get a car with $0 downpayment, some time down the road u decide to sell it off. But u realise that u need to pay $ to sell it off as the value of car is not enough to repay the loan amount. A typical 10year car loan takes around 7-8years to breakeven, i.e. sell car without topping up. So a $0 downpayment effectively makes a poor man poorer. So if u ask me, when would it make sense to pay in full? My answer is always.

Thanks guys for your opinions... i guess our choice of lifestyle has alot to do with how we are brought up and how we were taught to deal with money. People in their late 20s or early 30s, lived in better conditions than their parents with more access to toys and money. The instant gratification of getting a salary in thousands upon graduation is often tempting. Couple that with easy credit card access, we have created a cateogry of people who earn and spend (but not save). i wonder if such an attitude towards money takes an automatic shift when one ages and becomes a parent? I.e., feel the need to save for kid's education, save for rainy days, etc... hence, the progression comes about naturally. on a side note: the 9pm show on channel 8 illustrates another extreme, where Chen Han Wei is extremely stingy. He can buy a heart shaped cake for a guy friend simply becos its the cheapest in the shop! LOL...

Quick-step Laminate Flooring
gimz63251073 replied to khengjoo's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
my personal view: for living rooms can use better quality ones, as there is more movement and hence more wear and tear. for bedrooms, most of the space is taken up by bed, wardrobe, etc... so can save abit and take ac3 if budget is of a concern. more importantly is to take care and maintain the place la... having said that, i used ac3 for everywhere.
