  1. i have taken my stainless steel (grade 304) toiletries holder to spray clear lacquer (3 layers). As the holder will be put at a place which is perpetually wet, i decided to take extra precautions. i think it might give some much needed protection. not sure if anyone has done it to their metal drawers before?
  2. oh getting keys this week? Gotta contractor/ID le? uh u getting aluminium window grilles? i was advised not to, given that its corridor. Supplier showed me samples before, got different prices for different level of hollow-ness. The really hollow ones are very weak and they advise not to use it for corridor window as it can be easily cut. (maybe they want me to spend more?) as for the things left inside the house, i guess its common. just get town council for big items to remove. Small items chuck down the rubbish chute (big advantage of old flats!) sewage pipes need to go la, get your contractor to quote. Clementi-PR got it done via the town council's contractors.
  3. better to state down what you intend to do, so that people who had done the same can provide insights into what could possibly go wrong. Its not that people here don't want to help, its more of if you are doing different things, the sequence may be different. my sequence: 1. hacking 2. build new door openings 3. extend living room 4. making good of hacked areas & overlay toilet floor 5. Install door frames 6. piping works for kitchen and toilet. 7. citygas piping - for heater and gas 8. painting 9. electrical 10. windows 11. carpentry for kitchen cabinets 12. install new doors 13. air con works 14. spray paint for kitchen and toilet 15. install bathroom accessories. 16. install laminated flooring to living, bedrooms. many of the above sequence are things we did by engaging sub con. so sequence is based on my own best guess of what is to be done. Things to point out: - install air con after painting = have to paint trunking ourselves. - electrical before painting = we did not want to paint our trunking - we did not do re-tiling except for overlay one toilet floors - laminated flooring to do last to prevent workers damaging it. hope it helps.
  4. no free things in this world friend. price of $168 includes installation. toilet door, u mean bi-fold door? the same shop sells bi-fold door, prices start from $150. drop by the shop for selection of colours. what do you mean by spray paint to black glossy colour? u mean spray toilet bowl to black?? there are black toilet bowls in the market already, no need buy white to spray.
  5. yes, its the heaviest thing we carried to our house... had to rest twice for a short walk... anyway heres the besglas' glass at carlton. so might as well get from carlton next time...can save some $$
  6. Fridge and washer was delivered by audio house, baby gave the audio house people a small little piece of her mind as they did not call us to arrange a timing. we had to hound them to know when they are coming! good thing was, audio house delivery guys are quite good. they are gentle towards the appliances and take care not to damage our flooring. also had a minor hiccup as the LG fridge almost could not go into the house. Old HDB not designed for new fridge? they had to take down on side of the main gate to bring in the fridge. put our stuff this way, to hide things... Before we put the glass on the table frame... the super heavy glass:
  7. yesh...not sure about others, but we do feel a deep sense of satisfaction. looking at the works, the flaws, the nice kitchen..etc, it definitely is a very rewarding experience. (Though very very tiring our reno took very long....yes...so long such that our neighbours above who started way later than us had already completed theirs! Primarily becos we outsourced alot of stuff to save some money...little bit here and there goes a long way. today we went to collect our glass from carlton glass, its a big factory with like 14-18 CCTVs in the office. They have 3 fierce looking dogs there...luckily all in cage... there are tons of glass sitting there waiting for collection. While waiting for the workers to pick up mine, i walked around and looked. Saw that they labelled the owners name at the side of the glass. Guess whose name i found?? "Besglas"!!! so i am getting Besglas quality? haha workers helped to load it up our car. had to push the seats way in front, so only Baby can drive as i had no room to lift my legs. Long way home and had a great workout carrying the glass back. Its very very very heavy!! We were so tired that no more strength to do anything....now baby is sleeping so soundly, like a baby.... i love the glass...glad we made the effort to use clear instead of frosted. Shall put the pics later! think i rested enough...now shall do some spraying...
  8. wow, from black to white....only 1 can of paint? haha.... transformation is impressive. u gonna put it against a black wall? the light kit is from ikea... tink $5 bucks thereabouts?
  9. This is a great ikea hack: http://lapsushumanus.blogspot.com/2010/06/...my-drawers.html so many creative people around... i shall attempt to copy it... heee.... gotta figure out kitchen needs and play with this hack.
  10. yeap i also curious why put trunking liao they dun want to give warranty. trunking got wat issue? they scared u drill the trunking meh..
  11. From my personal experience, i think the main isssue is not size of fan. Rather its how well lighted your area is. if the whole place is lighted up, and no dark spots in the house when lights are switched on, shadows are minimal. To avoid shadows, don't get fans that comes with lighting kits will have shadows at the area between ceiling fan and ceiling. Confirmed...regardless of where your downlights are. downlights if got "gap" in between 2 lights, that area will be dark, hence fan blades turning may cast a shadow on the wall.
  12. depends on whether you want the pipes to stand out. paint white = more background feel, not obvious paint green/tree = make the pipe a feature in the toilet. personally i think paint white better becos your tiles are nice, make ur tiles stand out instead.
  13. samgalz, those are excess silicon done by the plumber... had a lot more of those at the sides sink as well. my poor baby.... coldflamez, urs by CNS too? same design as mine but at $238? arghhh....! Code is CNS102. did you bargain? actually i don't mind the bumps...haha for me as long as design is simple, colour match, price match its enough le.
  14. Can improvise from his proposals mah. most of the time if the place is very neat and clean, already will look very nice le!
  15. uh? false ceiling can "adjust" to make straight one mah? the cement base not straight but tiler can make tiles till its level. the wall not straight but carpenter can make the wardrobe straight.
  16. have benefitted from the forum, my turn to pass it on. installation around $80 to $90 had asked around in shops like poh joo and others let me intro a cheap and good (basic) model. had one for quite some time in my parent's house. $168 for supply and install plus dismantle and throw old WC. comes with a slow close (said to be soft close but closes very slowly!) From 720 Geyland Road:
  17. hi, if not in a mad rush for time, perhaps you can check out the myhometown+sg. pls replace the + with a . post ur floorplan up, look for a person with a nick lieblingsg. He previously helped us with our layout as we initially wanted minimalist style. End up we forgo the idea as its too costly to hide everything. he also suggested a kitchen layout which made us went wild, super special and unique. u could consider seeking his advice. u try looking for my thread there (same title as in renotalk): Forums > Home Rejuvenation > My Renovation look at page 6 onwards
  18. ohh no updates on ur tblog.. we not going to move in officially so soon. But we gonna spend this saturday night there. Its like a dream come through after so many months. I think we started reno in 3rd week of Feb, after CNY. Soooo long le. next big thing is to eat steamboat there...haha...
  19. no worries.. i also hijack urs mah... hahah
  20. oh, i was only interested in black and white frames. No price difference between black and white. The other colours i not sure le. Think gotta check with supplier.
  21. uhh veneer is kinda plastic? i never try before....maybe don't try steel cleaner. spray paint can stick on veneer? maybe need primer...
  22. surely. would have to paint over or apply some coating as with most metals. hdb shud be fine. If landed property might be different.
  23. hmm chances are if we delay, we probably end up not doing it at the end... Shall ponder over it...
  24. not entirely true. some no licenced ones need to engage licenced contractors to use their name. End up also charge to consumer. i received quotes from non-licenenced and licenced ones. Turns out that licenced one cheaper.
  25. uhh yeah..hope can go and see...budget is so tight now. the only way to reduce further is to bring a axe to cut down a tree and use it to build my WIW... around $80 per piece...? let me go and brainwash baby....hahaha...
