  1. an update from Dama: went down last sat, sales ger told me to use aluminium composite panel at hob area, better to use the fire-proof version for safety. cost is $160 per piece (4ft by 8ft). The bad thing is come in only a few colours, like grey, white. Not as much choices. Also, i would not need such a big piece, hence the rest of the board will be wasted. Kinda expensive when normal aluminium composite panel cost like $50+ per piece. thought about it deeply and decide that its not worth it. in the end, got this from ikea: http://www.ikea.com.sg/en/catalog/detail.a...d=panel&b=7 intend to stick it to kitchen wall at the hob area. Just $19 and the main aim is to make the place easier to clean. I think should suffice. Edit: material is High-pressure melamine laminate. which is used for most kitchen cabinets. hence should be able to withstand the heat.
  2. hey pinkitini, we used to get water which was either too hot or too cold also. have u tried to adjust the setting at the heater from "High" to "Low"? it worked for us, now we get warm water for showering.
  3. no pics? dark floors are better...really. my living hall using white laminates and can see every strand of hair that is on the floor. one day vacuum a few times also will have hair... in fact, the darker the floor, the greater the contrast when u do white cabinets. Think will be better!
  4. woah, ok seems like an overhaul cannot be avoided. big hole in pocket = big smile on face. haha.. u going to get a contractor to do everything or go ala-carte? i gonna try again to look for the pipe fittings. The pipes i saw at choo chiang are for electrical wires...look too skinny to use as base..
  5. hmm? cannot put shower screen? how come...? never measure properly? They going back to re-cut the glass with the door hinge uh....?
  6. i have seen such boxes before. But the purpose of it is to put in lorry to store stuff, but can customise size. saw it at Kai Lim (one huge hardware shop), not sure of the price though. http://www.hardwareshop.com.sg/
  7. disappointed with Spotlight already la...last time announce big big that everything 20% off. i went there to buy the fabric i wanted, when i saw it last time it was selling at $14.95. Wanted to wait for sale so didnt buy. then next week spotlight announche 20% off everything! i thought this time shiok liao... surprisingly, when i went for the sale, the item's price has magically increased to $18.95. All in the space of 1 week! Increase price then claim got 20% sale? *thumbs down* to Spotlight. Never expected big shops to do this, throw face! PS: they simply used a marker to blacken the old price tag and write a new price using pen. Somemore did a lousy job, cover so lightly that still can see original price of $14.95. Maybe they applied the marker to too many price tags liao?
  8. yes old flats often comes with such issues...lots of unexpected costs and have to spend $$ on it... Customised table would surely cost more than ikea's off the shelves prices, i think ikea's annual sale is in early july. So u might wish to hold the plans since it wouldnt be so fast till carpentry stage? any pics?
  9. if you like the place and can afford the 40k, what is stopping you? COV is a measure of how much you like the place and how much you are able to pay. If you don't like the place, why get it simply becos of price? Living in a place you don't like is like marrying the wrong guy/ger!
  10. misty the images are too small... can't see leh...
  11. i just did my glass table top with Carlton glass. cheapest price, they can cut to size for all glasses. check their website. Self collect at ulu Changi though. can enquire via email. other renotalk forumers also did their glass through Yuen Tat. for plastic, can try Dama... google for their website. Also can customise size, sales staff very helpful and quick to reply to email.
  12. as long as the fan's blades are not too near the false ceiling, it should not pose any safety issue.
  13. put a mirror areas where the roughness is obvious, like under downlights or where natural light gets in. people will simply look at themselves instead of the rough walls.
  14. brand is matrix - never hear before one. mine works fine. my new hse is Baron - one piece (forgot the product code) sits well for me.
  15. haha, its ok then. you can actually pick up your stuff from the physical hardware shop from estore if you find shipping charges expensive. they have one outlet at Yishun, the other at Geylang (where i picked up my WC) The address can get from the "contact us" link at the website. Samgalz, for cam lock, most neighbourhood shops would have le, not worth it to go there specially to get... oh i meant that choo chiang at toh guan that row of shops, there are at least 2 hardware shops. I just went to Homely last week to get spray paint. so shun bian shop around. think its better to jot down whatever you need and get it one shot from estore, think that making many trips down for a few dollars rarely makes sense.
  16. go estore.com.sg its even cheaper there. its a hardware shop actually, im sure you would need stuff from hardware shops like nails, screws..etc. or if you drop by to choo chiang at toh guan, there is Homely there and another big hardware shop there also. those high end hardware in shopping malls are usually very much more expensive.
  17. making good progress! the orange white main door so retro... u gonna retain it?
  18. ohh, CNS did quote us aluminium sliding frame $210 for kitchen. length 2.3m height i forgot. u can check with them as well? must call up a few suppliers, get them to come to your open hse to quote you. all can come together...like door, windows, grille, painter...etc. then u know the market rate and can judge the quotation given by ID better. i "opened house" so many times...haha...
  19. yeah i tried all my keys on laminates, no impact. In the end i took a sharp scissors to stab it...haha..thats when i got a stare from wifey. those that i see in people's house was those one big piece kind, where one part will pop up after some time. stripes are so much better. maybe i might do it in the future.
  20. congrats! once it starts, cannot slow down! haha still hotel theme mah?
  21. what i visualise is that your fan is at the centre of the room, surrounded by downlights at the side right? downlights will only shine downwards, so the ceiling is actually lighted up by reflected lights from tiles. hence, ceiling will definitely be less bright. So surely have some shadows on ceilings, whether or not it is disturbing depends on how bright the entire place is. for example, if you turn on some, but not all the downlights, shadows will be more obvious.
  22. car keys should not scratch on laminated flooring as well.... at least on those i enquired...like pergo, robina and supreme. which are not high end stuff is the flooring in stripes like laminated flooring? looks nice!
  23. Hihi, the 3D drawn to scale? the wall which the chute is on, based on the floor plan its only 550. So might be too shallow if the kitchen cabinets are 550cm. Also noticed that there is very little preparation area for cooking. (maybe you cook less often?) i like the idea of no tv. I wanted no tv in living room as i enjoy watching tv in bedroom. but wifey says must buy for guests to watch.. the size of bedrooms of old 3 room flats are so much bigger!
  24. a main con is just like a coordinator for many sub cons. so everything can be outsourced. The only issue is whether you have the time and energy to go at it. you have to be there like everyday to supervise, give instructions, check and plan the schedule. Planning is only the start. my take is that there is no perfect sequence. For example, u do up the door first, later the workers bang their ladder onto it. You do up the toilet nice nice, they go n choke up the toilet bowl. U do up windows first the painters might drop paint on it, etc. First of all, you have to spend alot of your time and your works are rather extensive. My personal views on which are easy to outsource without too much effort: 1. windows and doors - renotalk has a few good recommendations. 2. carpentry works - u gotta design urself if you get a direct carpenter. from shape to colour to size. If you get a good one, can save quite a lot. 3. air con -usually people sub-con it anyway. 4. electrical works.
  25. we found a good approach to choose our stuffs, making the selection process much easier. Criteria 1: must be on sale Criteria 2: match our colours. so we got the following under the 2 for $49 offer from Tangs: Finally we can cook instant noodles at our house!
