  1. google's translation: On the palm, folk, another legend, the man palm palm Asatsuna, women keep palm availability. Men left palm "palm to arms", which means will do "General"; men right hand palm "palm treasury," which means will become the "god of business"; if your hands are palm down, then good luck, but the Big Bad But if by constant self-cultivation to import the right path and will be able to make a difference. duh!! Let me try.. ok the gist of the chinese words is that males with 断掌 usually are leaders (generals in the olden days), while females with 断掌 end up being lonely in life (saddest thing possible in olden days). guys with right hand 断掌, are good at mangement (or doing businesss?). guys with both hands 断掌, can be extremely good or bad, it depends. Self cultivation of charactor may change their fate. Guys, please see if it can be improved... Chinese is often a chim language...
  2. found this on google: 关於断掌,民间又有另一种传说,男人断掌掌朝纲,女人断掌守空房。男人左手断掌「掌兵符」,意味会做「大将军」;男人右手断掌「掌财库」,意味会变成「经营之神」;万一双手皆断掌,那运途可是大好大坏,但若能经由不断的修身养性来导入正途,必能有所作为。 many more...read till i blur... http://www.ins100.net/bxg/u/gdzf/archives/2007/1561.html
  3. hmm how come they charge extra? by right your carpentry costs should include their own hinges and slides as well. Since u are supplying the slides n hinges and not using theirs, they should actually give u a discount. Logical? my carpenter had told me that he doesn't charge extra if i self supply slides n hinges, but he never say will give discount la.. or are u using the super sophisicated kind of mechanism...?
  4. oops, i missed out on this, hope its not too late..? yes it does incude installation. what i understand is that for doors and window works, their quote will include removal of old doors/windows and installation. But always check to confirm.
  5. starting to look very cave like! u gonna have a tv in the living room..? under the window? how are your grilles doing... goood..? oh my i think i saw footprints on your laminates....are there still works to be done in the house? u gotta protect the laminates if so..
  6. this is lovely! we almost wanted to get this as well...
  7. nope dun think so. i live on the 6th floor. Saw a cockroach inside my rubbish chute when i was throwing things away.
  8. nice! like the red door gate.... and oh the windows are nice too! very unique. *thumbs up* enough storage @ kitchen cabinets..?
  9. ossify is one, jaskel another one. some other lurking here i am sure. haa.. btw, we have exactly the same floor plan! oh ya, how come ur budget for electronics is $10k...a bit high leh...does it include furnishing as well..? U can also list down the prices u were quoted, then let the experts here give their 2cents. If prices are already quite reasonable, then the only way to cut cost is to lower your expectations... like selecting cheaper materials or going more places or getting some 2nd hand stuff. Just to share: - we bought hollow bedroom doors - cheaper by $20 each, saved $40. - for patch up works, we opted for cement screed finish instead of tile finish - saved $100. (as we doing lamintes, will be covered up anyway) - opted to outsource carpentry - save 30% at least. - outsource windows, grilles, etc. - no idea how much we saved, but we shopped around for many quotes. (i still have the excel file of all hdb registered window installers, whom i emailed for quotes) - did not do things like L-Box to hide trunkings. Instead went for exposed trunking with paint. Suits our theme, and it really is not very obvious. - buy things from sale - or should i say, never buy unless there is a sale! Little things add up, every $10 saved on one item in the list can go great lengths. Our budget is 30k for reno+furniture+everything. Ours is a total goner flat filled with cockroaches and curry smell back then. Lots of revamp to do but hey, till now, we have yet to burst it. Bearing in mind that we even include the cost of a spoon in calculation, yes we are that specific! Things we sacrifice: - rainshower - use normal shower head. - sanitary ware - all no-brand ones. works fine actually. - roomba - use vacuum cleaner and dry mop - dryer - use bamboo stick - no plastering - uneven walls. doesn't affect us much really. - and many others....
  10. my 2cents: GC is a big company with many installers, some get good ones some get bad ones. So some say good service, some say bad service. Very hard to say GC good or lousy, it really depends. The same goes for all air cond dealers who have more than 2 workers. Even in renotalk, there may be real and unreal reviews posted by the company or their competitors. Most importantly is to arm yourself with some knowledge and supervise closely so that you would know if they are trying to cut corners.
  11. im sure many people will be interested in the outcome. would be good if you could let us know.
  12. it looks similar to what happened to my house, mine was due to renovation works by neighbours upstairs. from the floor plan, it does seem like u would end up with a huge MBR, can't see the dimensions clearly.. the drawings are to scale?
  13. woah, seems like ur toilet ceiling also has leakage from above. need to get it done as well... i can see that u gonna have a huge MBR... shiok... no tv inside MBR?
  14. wah next year reno and u start doing homework already? sure, will PM u. have to let u know he is a carpenter, so u gotta supply the design urself. he will provide advice also...
  15. very nice laminates! how much is the cost? sorry to hear about this...laminate must be done last...any further works, must put protection over it. Laminate guy is correct, door guy should compensate...
  16. wanted to paint white initially...(can see how much i like white.. ) but gotten lazy...so do smaller projects first. dirty is ok, we don't really mind the used look. our door frame (painted white colour) also got some stains, got used to it after a while, starting to like the used look! or most would say we are just plain lazy. still got WIW project to assemble, book shelf project...etc. we doing a bit at a time so as not to kill ourselves...
  17. yes loved the laminates. white paint and white laminate makes the place looks bigger! also help in getting us to vacuum more frequently as every hair stands out on white laminates... haha... hmm i can't recall where i copied from...haha, i remember googling for "pallet furniture" images. Many came out... some got pallet bed even... pallet shoe rack is quite useful actually, can put the shoes we want to air outside and those that we wear frequently...
  18. haha, not innovative at all...copied the idea from online resources shamelessly in fact.
  19. yeap they are. this pic would show clearer. our wire casings are all exposed, so hiding wires not much of a problem for us. good thing is that we will always remember to off the powerpoint when not watching tv. bad point is of cos....whole world see the wires..
  20. Our new toy Got it from the thieves market. Doubt it is usable, anyone wants to donate 10cents to try? Did some DIY spray painting again... Ikea breakfast tray - use to put laptop while lazing in bed... IKEA beside table - $16.90. Spray painted in dull black, strong enough to hold our new TV. Last but not least, our 200 hangers!!!
  21. congrats to the completion! some flaws in the reno is just common, after a while, we try not to look at it anymore. btw, ur storeroom is quite neat what....not messy at all! (my common room then messy!) haha so how much the total damage?
  22. Fan is to cool the area isn't it? if i sit there and the fan is able to cool the area, then its a good fan already.. rotation speed, sorry naked eye how to see? air flow...u can see the air flowing? i cannot see la, if can see im in deep trouble as now is 7th month... close all windows to feel the wind, can feel a difference so i highlighted it. U can take it with a ton of salt for the matter...thats the way reviews work, based on feedback from end users, not feedback from engineers who use jargons and statistics. Lasting is of cos important for all electronics. The cost of replacing a fan is not low and u have to go through the same headache again. U might get a lemon after tons of research if you are suay. U mean japan send engineer here to inspect a 100+ sgd fan? haha! thats really a joke! looking to see if it remains a joke... Sunny will have to go back to JB as he bought it from there... which i doubt he will....
  23. if you are looking at ikea kitchen cabinets, can check out ossify's t-blog. generally cost savings is not significant if u compare carpenter vs ikea (provided u DIY transportation & assembly) ikea's furniture comes in standard sizes, may not be able to custom fit the house whereas carpenter's can.
  24. or every good review, there is a bad review here. i bought kdk baby fan after experiencing it at Tunes hotel and reading good reviews. Sunny had a bad experience, but if u read ahead in another thread of kdk vs elmark thread, there are some good reviews on kdk as well. for me, kdk is good for now. lasting or not...hmmm 5 years later then i will know. getting fans with lights is a total distraction, be it in the living room when u are watching tv or dining room where u eat... please think many times whether u can tahan or not.
