  1. Most probably, the contractor is not interested in your job as it is too small, and the charges is going to be very high. A rivet gun with some rivets will set you back about $16.00 and you can use it next time. A latch depending on type should not cost more than $10.00. The contractor will charge you at least $50 for transport and maybe extra for labour and parts. If you can handle a screw driver, you can do the job.
  2. Try using a tooth brush soaed in diluted acid to clean it off.
  3. The NEA will did every hole to get lavae so that they can fine you $200.00. This includes all obvious places and other water containers, including pitcher plants. So keep the gutter free of dead leaves and make sure nothing collects water, or use plenty of chemicals to combat the breeding of mosquitoes. Don't breed mosquitoes to feed NEA
  4. All BATA shops sella leather cream called, "Mink Oil" it is packed as a cream in a small round bottle. Apply with a sponge and wipe/buff off. It protects all leathers, including motor cycle seats which has long hours of exposure to UV light.
  5. The easiest wall paper to stick on is the vinyl ones with adhesive on the back already. The trick is to spray a little soapy water on to the smooth surface and peel off the protective paper at the back and paste it on the target surface. If for any reasons like misalignment or air bubbles, slide the wall paper straight and use a credit card to push out all the air bubbles. When the soap solution dries, Voila, it"s done to perfection. I did mine this way, and the finishing looks pretty professional.
  6. The paint peeling is called "Spalling" and is caused by your neighbour upstairs. Contact HDB to complain.

Bought this wall paper from a hardware shop in Marsalling Lane . It is coated with adhesive and is made of vinyl. Took me 1 hour or so to put it up. Easy as ABC Cost $67 only.
  8. Maxbond is in a tube and you need a gun to push it out of the pointed outlet to apply the adhesive. I use it extensively for all my DIY work, like sticking mirrors to walls and including sticking up my deco wall which is quite heavy.Cost about $4.50 a tube at hardware shops. Only problem, it is brown in colour
  9. You might damage the plaster on the wall by using force to remove the hooks. You can also do it by inserting a small screw driver behind the hook and prying it out/loose. Be prepared to patch up damged plaster, Get a pre mixed putty plaster for $2.00 to fill up cracks for repainting or touch up.
  10. Got shop in Defu Lane that does acrylic work. If you are interested, pm your contact
  11. The best bet is to mount your TV with an approved type TV Wall Bracket. If you want to mount it on a wooden back ground, use extra long screws and heavy duty raw plugs, thus going thru the plywood and anchoring the TV on the wall. Of course, the plywood must be painted or varnished and screwed on to the wall first
  12. You guys are so lucky to smell food. Be it aromatic or stinking it is still food. I have the unfortunate luck to stay next to neighbour who has "Hong Kong" foot. The short corridor leading to my house and his only services both our apartment. He leaves his smelly shoes( a few pairs) outside on a shoe rack and everytime, I come home or open the door, I get to smell that obnoxious smell. I have managed to alleviate the situation slightly by placing "perfumed" bottles on my side of my shoe rack.
  13. Keeping fishes used be one of my past hobbiles, and naturally, keeping aquatic plants come along when you want to divesify into a new kind of water hobby. I do not know what your intention is by your question, but if you want tips, I can guide you along with some vasluable experience.
  14. Contractor Wanted to replace existing rubbish chute with stainless steel unit in condominium. Any reliable contractor to quote. Have at least s min of 6 to 9 units at one go.

  16. That is a good idea. If we consumers get together and inform each other of the bad business ethics of the offending company, they will have to close shop soon.
  17. I lost about $30,000 being deposit held in trust by the lawyer for my new place. The law society said that they have investigated and confirmed that the said layer has absconded with a few million dollars and part of it was my money, and that they cannot reinburse me. I reported to police and got another lawyer to act on my behalf, and now the case is still pendeng.
  18. Acid wash will do the trick, but too many acid wash is bad for the tiles and grouting. The best bet is to use your shower head to hose down the walls and floor with just clean water after everytime, you take a bath. This will wash away the soap scum left behind.
  19. Personally, I still prefer a good quality Wallpaper. It brings out the focal point in a wall.
  20. Depending on the depth of the acratches, you can do a DIY job. First, rub it down with resonable rough sandpaper, followed by smooth sandpaper, and if the colour remains the same, paint poly utherene on top of it with a paint brush. Other wise you might have to get a stainer to bring back to its original colour
  21. Whilst it might look good with the full size mirror, but my experience tells me that smaller mirrors aligned together is better for a varirty of reasons. 1.Easier to transport. 2Risk of breakage higher with bigger glass 2.On a big mirror, if there is a crack, the whole mirror breaks, whilst if they are made up of several smaller ones, you only need to change the broken piece. If perfectly aligned and screwed down with mirror studs, it will look beautiful, but you may want to blend it into your decor by using wooden/aluminium frames.
  22. Buy "Amour All" from car accessories stores for PU. Apply with sponge and let it dry off, but shine will not last. For genuine leather you can use Mink Oil from any Bata shops.
  23. My agent from ERA reconmended a Malay lawyer inspite of fact that I have my own. The reason, she gets a commission from the law firm. But that is not all, the Malay lawyer that she reconmended ran away with my money and until today cannot be found. I have exhausted all avenues of legal approach, ie seen the law society, seen ERA and the agent and they all say that they cannot do anything afterall I was not forced to use this Malay lawyer. So what can you say about reconmendations.
