  1. Furniture Post #1 Due to our shoestring budget, furnishing was one component we agreed to save on. Through our years of rentals, we've always used second-hand furniture that were bought online. There's an unexplainable thrill of buying stuff at such cheap prices that always compensate for not having something new. And this morning, we just put down the payment for our first second-hand item for our new home: 2.5 Seater Designer Fabric SofaOriginal Price: $2,800Purchased At: $238 We like the unique angle the sofa has and that it is a very solid piece, not cheapo.Might re-upholster it, see how it goes. - To be collected month end -
  2. yes i know, we're paying $260 for installation in all..they very good to earn lor. we won't be tiling our kitchen so the copper might blend well, not sure yet.. did u get a front load washer?
  3. i like the kitchen tap! matt is nice.. so your budget now must be encroaching 30, if you're going ahead with the new flooring for the hall + rooms?
  4. yea leh. now reno is dangling in mid-air while we await hdb's approval. we got no kids so not as busy as you...how many have you got?
  5. welcome to RT! my place also has that squatting toilet lol...classic.
  6. thanks for the suggestion! yes..will most likely have to paint any exposed pipes..depending on how ugly the copper is. might turn out well though..can't really visualise yet . i saw your pipes..you also have the same citygas water heater + dryer right? we'll be putting our dryer above the washer..we measured already, should have enough space.. you must drink loads and loads of water. this kind of weather very easy to fall sick. when we're out running about, i try to stay out of the sun as much as possible and really drinks lots of water..at the end of each weekend, i always find myself staring in to space while my energy bar refills..lol.
  7. think will be kinda tight, but worth a shot..seems like you're not gonna hack the flooring? if you're not hacking your kitchen floor, then i think no need to waterproof. your kitchen cabinets sounds like what gimz & baby are doing, can read their blog to see pics. be warned that s/steel countertop will cost.
  8. oh is it, that's good news haha..did u engage him previously? nope, no pics of the lights! they are pretty standard lights so no pics la..anyway this shop's prices can beat lightings.com.sg. It is on the right side if you go down Geylang Road. First shop after Lorong 25. hey u were at mega discount on saturday too? we could have passed each other lol! i was there around 3-4pm if i recall correctly.. orh i know liao! haha, not that old la sammy.. sounds pretty bad..you ought to take it easy! reno haven't start you already falling sick...tsk tsk tsk..

  10. wah u know the boss ah?.. they've been pretty good so far..no complaints as yet..
  11. another 3-roomer..welcome and congrats on your new flat!
  12. hey gals_mama, yep its 6.5kg.. we're happy with the price we got..i think its as low as it gets for front load washers!
  13. congrats on confirming your contractor! happy for you! even happier for you that you're no longer feeling obligated to your hb's business associate!
  14. i see..so thats how it works..i've caught glimpses of it at taka before but never really got round to watching the demo.. but sounds like you'll have to stick to only nescafe coffee then? no other brand of beans?
  15. happy to help! btw, how much was your nespresso? and how does it actually work? are maintenance fees high? hb's aunt has a krups which breaks down once a year!
  16. "I always say shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist." - Tammy Faye Bakker Citygas Gallery (Somerset) Finally confirmed our water heater + dryer on Saturday morning! Now facing an issue of how to run our gas pipes because we don't have top kitchen cabinets... Damage: Water heater: $128 + $60 installation Dryer: $630 + $100 installation Gas piping for stove: $100 Total damage: $1,018 A Lighting Enterprise (463 Geylang Road) Visited on Saturday to confirm our stuff: - 1m track lighting with 3 track lights (hall) $50 - 2 x down lights (entrance area) $46 - 1 x 4 feet double-tube light (common room) $38 - 1 x ceiling fan with light (hall) $175 Actual damage: $309 Real damage: $290 Alex was mad busy when we were there. He had to cope with so many different groups of customers at the same time...he got my bill wrong and luckily I spotted it and got him to correct it. Then when we got home, I realised another error: he wrote three sets of track lights when I actually only ordered one. Smsed him about it immediately... Mega Discount Store (Kallang Leisure Park) Saw their newspaper advertisement for a "Korean brand" washer + "Korean brand" side-by-side refrigerator. Had a feeling it would be the Samsung washer and LG fridge we've had our eyes on. Turned out it was! A lil' disappointed to find out when we got there that the price advertised did not include delivery fee. Bargained with the sales guy to charge us only one time delivery but he refused to budge, saying delivery fee for the fridge was charged by the agent. So ok bo pian, no time to run around the island to find other solutions and we were happy with the prices so went ahead to order: LG FRIDGE SIDE BY SIDE GRB207WVQ SUPER WHITE SAMSUNG WASHER FRONT LOAD WF8650 WHITE Damage: Fridge: $799 + $50 delivery Washer: $399 + $50 delivery Total damage: $1,298
  17. think can give tramondos a try..they have a 2010mm one on their website: http://www.tramondos.com
  18. so exciting the stainless steel is finally in! how's it look? any new pictures?
  19. the brick walls are really nice! and can i just say again how i love your black frame windows? i had to pause your reno video to see the windows again..hehe...very nice!
  20. Reno Day 13 Protective canvas laid in the hall Protective plastic sheet laid in the master room Protective cardboard laid in the kitchen. Notice the annoying little pipe has been cut off! Bathroom kerbs hacked level in preparation for new bathroom The gorgeous cement flooring in the service yard that has been levelled out
  21. haha yes we know you paid $0 cov! is it..? i'd assumed you were around late 20's.. thanks! we love our floors (so far) too! we'll be applying a layer of epoxy coating at the end of the renovation but for now its completely raw and unfinished. texture is smooth..a little dusty if you don't apply any finishing.. but i think its best to apply some sort of protective coating because cement is porous so if you drop any coffee/wine etc, your floors will get stained..
  22. i suppose its really to each his own, some houses might be worth paying above $25k for..but if we'd paid that kind of money for our place, i wouldn't even be on RT because we wouldn't be renovating.. actually, we've been renting for the past seven years and would continue to rent but because rental prices have been steadily increasing, it became a non-option for us to purchase our own place. can you imagine, we once rented a walk-up duplex 3bdrms unit for just $950?! Today, that money can only get you as far as a HDB master bedroom, at the most. so both u & ngunadi paid around the median for your flats..so it really must be the median la! at least from the small sample size we got here...lol!
  23. are you leaving your bathroom floors + walls as cement screed? interesting.....
  24. well, for a start, i didn't say we took months to find this unit. i told her we took about a month but before that, we tried our luck at the hdb ballot but was unsuccessful. and i also never said that we seen many other units..in fact i told her, this was only the second unit we saw. but when we spoke to other agents about our low cov requirements, they always told us it wasn't possible and hence, we didn't view many units. omg, my words were so misconstrued lor! why they never print about our unsuccessful attempt at the hdb ballot?! yes 25k IS alot of money. they think oh, just because hdb say the median cov paid is 25k, anything below that is cheap. for first-timers like us, 25k is much more than we can pay for our reno, much less the COV! hey sammy, nothing much la. just a couple of mis-quotes.
